At 8:12, most emulators have frame skip turned on by default. Which explains why Ken's Hadouken sometimes appears invisible for a few skipped frames. Wasn't the only fighting game I saw an invisible projectile, due to frame skip being turned on.
That's part of the issue, but it's not just the emulator, because frame skip doesn't make it skip drawing frames that are supposed to exist. Alpha 2's animation for Ken's fireball straight up has certain frames where there's nothing to display. It's not the only one, either (and SF2 also had the same problem for certain characters, including the shotos), but something about the animation timings makes it especially bad with Ken. That said, frame skip can exacerbate the issue if you happen to be getting just the right performance for it to skip the visible frames enough to change it from a ghostly flicker to 100% invisible.
@@Ash__Adler So the question is, what is the solution? Do you turn off or adjust the frame skip settings? Is there there a different setting that helps somehow? Or is it just a part of emulation that you have to deal with?
@@TheShredFaster The root of the problem is that the game itself has frames where the active hitbox has nothing drawn for it. Standard online gaming stuff like making sure you have a decent computer (which shouldn't be a big problem for SF2/SFA games these days), making sure you have a good/stable connection (i.e. minimize background programs), playing on a wired connection to minimize random data loss, and disabling frame skipping and putting up with it if/when slowdowns happen can help reduce how much it happens, but at the end of the day, it's just a "get fucked" thing that you have to deal with 🤷♂️
I think its a cps2 limitation of sorts, the hardware lacked a true transparency feature, something like the sega saturn (they used mashes like in special and life bars) when they do implement the transparent sprite they had to flash it really fast and sometimes you couldnt see it when it comes out

There's Strider, Captain Commando and his ninja teammate who's name I can't remember, Morrigan, Felicia, Hsien-Ko and Lei-Lei, Lynn Kurosawa from Alien vs. Predator, and that one girl who's an assist character in the first MvC. There might be some others I'm missing.
@@onehandclapping_5356 Devilotte might be there but I was talking about the girl at the back of the pool. She's the assist character that drops a bunch of dice.
Everything about Alpha 2 just feels so hopeful and good you know? The music, art style, stages, even the sound and visual effects feel like they mesh so perfectly. True there's some dirty bugs under the surface, but even still I think this is the pure definition of Street Fighter.
I feel like. In sf 6 whenever it comes out. I t would beso godlike if they implemented air blocking again like the alpha series! I dont know the repercussions of such bold change for people that never had it in 4 or 5. Either that or the parry system? I dunno. It would be cool to have the variants system again... They just need to add everything! That would be sick as fuck!
Random thing I found in Alpha 2 - if you air-block, you can recovery roll as you're coming back down (don't think you can control the distance like you can with regular quick-rise) never found a practical use for it though
I know that the 30th anniversary collection was considered wack, but I’m so happy to finally play the SF Alpha series (my favorite next to the SF3 + spin-offs such as 3rd Strike).
Speaking of Street Fighter Alpha 2, the 30th Anniversary Collection version of the game doesn't have any online play. The only Street Fighter games on the Street Fighter: 30th Anniversary Collection compilation that have online play are Street Fighter 2 Turbo: Hyper Fighting, Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo, Street Fighter Alpha 3 and Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike.
My epic John Choi memory: I think it was 1997 or 98. SF3 tourney at golfland I believe it was near Anaheim? Anyway.. I drove my "crew" from our northern cali arcade to enter the tourney. Long story short.. It ended up being Alex Valle vs John Choi in the finals. Valle coming out of winners bracket. I believe it was a best of 5 final. Everyone was crowded around the game cabinet and the energy was crazy. Valle was pretty much having his way with Choi. Choi only able to win one match. I believe it was a Ryu vs Ryu mirror match if I remember correctly. Valle only had to win one more match to be crowned the champ. Out of nowhere Choi selected Yun to the confusion of most of the crowd. From that point forward Choi came back and won every match to win the whole thing. That was the most epic comeback I've ever witnessed. Valle did his best, trying to change up characters but it didnt help. The crowd erupted after Choi took it and I was like holy shit. That just happened. That whole match was recorded on a video camera wired into the game cabinet. I wish someone could locate it and post it somehow. Was definitely a "you had to be there" memorable moment in early fighting game history.
At an Arcade called Tilt years ago (rip Tilt) John Choi came once, got a 30 game win steak on a Cvs2 cabinet, I watched. I didnt even put my coin up, it was the most people and logest line of quarters we ever had. Legend

Ya know all I gotta say is that at Final Round 22 which was in 2019, I TO'd the SFA2 tournament, and top 3 was you, FlashMetroid, and VickiViper...and you DID CLUTCH IT OUT! Haha. So with your statement about winning the US SFA2 tourneys, I can say with full confidence that I watched you do it.
That corner control was crazy good. Sadly most players would just get frustrated and cry projectile spam or something in that situation anymore. I'm not saying, "all newer players are bad," or anything, plenty of old ones cry the same.
