The reason I loved this film is that they made Ritchie being one of the killers very clear for those watching. When he was in the hospital, he froze when ghostface (Amber) was shot and looked genuinely panicked, like the act broke for a moment, and he was reluctant to leave. The motive was ingenious the whole toxic fandom was on point. That doesn’t mean you can’t criticize new movies. It’s just some people get way too mad over a movie.

    • @hashbrowns7188
      @hashbrowns7188 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

@@volourn9764 they didn’t make every fan who criticizes films the villain, they made fans who get toxic about films the villain. People can hate a movie without being toxic. And fans becoming killers has been a theme in the franchise: Billy and Stu wanted to make their own slasher movie; Mickie wanted to capitalize on a sequel to gain notoriety; Jill and Charlie wanted to remake the original just because Jill was jealous of Sidney’s fame. Tbh a lot of the killers in this franchise had pretty weak motives. The only ones that had a decent motive were Billy, his mother, and Roman. But being a psycho killer doesn’t even require a strong motive really. They’re psychos, they’ll kill people over a bag of candy if they wanted to.

I also thought him and Judy would have motive because Woodsboro had been boring for a decade and many hated Stab 8, which is seen as a stain for some of their town. It also is heartbreaking that Judy died and still failed to protect her son, and Wes died never knowing what happened to his mother.

I feel like this small detail adds a layer of complexity to Dewey because not only would he feel guilty for his younger sister’s death, but it will always tie him to Woodsburrow

They basically showed Olivia's death but in broad daylight in the front yard, and we didn't get cuts to other characters, just the stabbing stabbing stabbing. And then it seemed like no one really cared at all about Judy, nor Wes.
Judy Hicks was a much more intelligent and smarter character than that scene. She would not have left her son, her means everything to her clearly, alone when his friend was just brutally attacked by Ghostface, who she herself has a history with, not to mention the town she grew up in.

Also, a higher-than-mighty sheriff mentality wouldn't explain why she left her kind son at home alone to go fetch sushi during a killing spree of Ghostface. It was just a poor script and not understanding a character.

I think it’s a great opportunity for us to see Sams character having a psychotic break later down the line, which could really open Tara up to becoming the main image. I would say this is also the first pair of killers that actually seemed to like each other! There wasn’t one outsmarting the other really. So that was pretty refreshing to me. I also liked that having two killers made sense with the story arcs of the new girl, Sidney, and Gale. Sam had to take out Richie for her storyline to feel complete and it made sense that Sidney and Gale would deal with Amber for killing Dewey. Also wanted to say I had a feeling one of the killers would be Amber. She just looked so angry the whole time. I knew something was up with her. 1) Dewey's death was done poorly; he walked right up to Ghostie to shoot them with a gun, and zoned out when his phone rang??? MORONIC!
    2) Not one scene with the OG trio together
    3) Gale was with newbs when she found Dewey dead; she should have been with Sidney or even Martha/Judy (someone legacy who knew him).
    4) I would have used Judy more, but her kill scene was good
    5) Billy having a love child from nowhere was LAME, Roman did it first. Why did no-one mention her grandmother was also a killer when her *secret* was so pivotal??? AND if Sam is five years older than Tara, how is that high schooler 18 or younger in 2022?
    6) Why didn't Sidney and Gale phone the police when they realised where Act 3 was happening?
    7) Why would Sid go into the house alone PERIOD
    8) The first 'half' of the film was too long/slow, they should have cut 10 minutes and given 2 of them to the OG trio. They could have cut Vince entirely if they weren't gonna use him.

I liked the movie. Amber was intense, I'd say the most psychopathic since Billy! But the suspense and dread and character background/development just wasn't there; I feel as though Kevin not writing/producing played apart in the poorer character arches. 6.5/10 C+. I'd rank them as S1(10/10) 2ND Place- S2 (7/10 B) 3rd S3 (7/10) 4th S4 (7/10) 5th S5 (6.5/10) then 6th TV Show (6.5/10). I did read online it was Kevins idea to bring back Jill and isolate Sid; I think we'll see that in part 6 because Neve reportedly isn't returning. I still say it's ok to replace Neve as Sid! I also would've loved to see Dewey go out/down as the killer, because he definitely had motive. I loved how Ritchie hinted at Dewey having motive. 👻 🔪

  • @misfitjulia

Personally, I was really hoping Stu would be back. Imagine, Richie being the Son of Stu; Dating the Daughter of Billy… Or Sam being Sydney’s daughter. Billy could have gotten Sydney pregnant, then Billy dies the same night, but between scream 1 and scream 2, Sydney took a year off; she could’ve had the baby, given her up because she couldn’t handle the stress and maybe doesn’t want her daughter to be involved in this tragic story and murders etc. And so Sam’s “mom” is her adopted mom; and could’ve really tied that in there. Stu goes into hiding or changes his identity over the years, he knows the secret of Sydney and the killers would be Stu and his son/daughter and goes on a murder spree 25 years later, with the motive of “you killed my friend, you took my life away” OR “he’s making a better movie in honor of Billy because that’s what Billy would’ve wanted” or something along the lines.
I wish there was more character development with Amber and some others; just seemed a tad…rushed or looked over but over all I’d give this movie 8 stabs out of 10.

So you try to say that ppl who complain about the movie for whatever reason are the toxic ones? Strange. Most toxic and rude comments I read are from those who liked it and attack ppl who didn’t like it. The who dunnit element is one of the main topics of the movie. Being so predictable for this franchise about who the killers are is for me a huge let down. It might be not the only important thing about this movie, but it’s a huge deal. So knowing it before the reveal shows that it’s not well executed and that they didn’t even try their best to hide it perfectly. They could done it by misleading us better.
But in any case, it wasn’t a bad movie, but still the most uninspired one for me, since it felts in most parts like I’m watching the original one again.
I hope they do better in the next one. They should also improve the dialogues.

After seeing the movie again, I did like it “more”. This movie had the best opening since the original, and I loved the fact that Kirby was confirmed to be alive. That’s when I felt that the new creative team really did want to honor Wes Craven, and they did just that. Every prior movie was shown some type of love. Both killers do slight things that give themselves away throughout the movie, just like in previous movies, those lil lines of dialogue and lil exchanges/looks they give each other. My biggest gripe, like with most “requels”, is that they didn’t give us our big 3 together again. If we would’ve gotten just one shot of the original trio together, I wouldn’t have minded it, but they weren’t given enough to do, and they were super sidelined. I do agree that Jenna Ortega’s Tara is more interesting than Sam, I didn’t like Sam until the ending when she went ballistic on Richie. A “serial killer” for the good guys is a kinda interesting angle. Mindy is definitely the standout, I’m glad her and Chad have the ability to return.

But when u show then reveal of Scream 4 I literally got chills on how I surprised I was, and then Jill killing her partner (bam) another surprise, makes me again question the reveal for Scream (2022). Idk maybe it's because I know these movies like the back of my hand lol, but I literally saw moments they put in there that let me know yeahh that's the killer. Like when Sam shot Amber in the hospital and Kirsch looked back when going to the elevator b.c he was worried she was dead, I knew it was him lol, b.c. that's Scream and what they do to reveal who the killer is so when you look back you're like ahh. My whole point is I wasn't surprised or shocked by the reveal. Still liked the movie tho.

The first Scream film not directed by Wes Craven, who passed away in August of 2015 from cancer. The character of Wes was named in honor of him and the film is dedicated to him in the end credits.
Much like in Scream 3, Sidney Prescott is not prominently featured in the first part of the film
Debut film of French model Sonia Ben Ammar, who is well-known in France.
David Arquette said he was excited to regrow his now-famous mustache for his role as Dewey Riley.
Dylan Minette was born 9 days after the original Scream came out in theaters in December 1996.
The area code for Woodsboro is shown to be 707. This is the area code for Santa Rosa, where the original Scream was filmed.
Despite playing their mother, Heather Matarazzo (Martha Meeks) is 12 years older than Jasmin Savoy-Brown (Mindy), and 14 years older than Mason Gooding (Chad)
A street sign reading "Elm St." is visible at one point. This is one of several references to Wes Craven's A Nightmare on Elm Street in the Scream films, including the location of the Prescott house in the original, as well as Wes Craven's famous cameo as school janitor Fred, who wears a very familiar sweater.
Screenwriter James Vanderbilt's wife's name is Amber Freeman. This is also the name of a character in this movie.
31-year-old Melissa Barrera plays 23-year-old Sam.
The first Scream movie in which the opening victim survives.
First Scream film where neither of the killers have a personal motive against Sidney Prescott.
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds' song "Red Right Hand", which had prominently featured in the first three Scream films, returns to the franchise after being absent from Scream 4 (2011). It's heard when Ghostface turns on Vince's car before killing him.
The first Scream film to not feature an opening murder.
The way how Richie gets slashed on the arm is similar to how Derek and Jill got slashed on the arm in Scream 2 and 4.
The film's end credits font is the same one used in the credits for the first three movies.
First Scream to feature all deaths be a result of knife or firearm.
Tara is the second Scream series character to be stabbed through the hand by Ghostface following Olivia Morris in Scream 4 (2011).

My prediction:the treatment for the next two films was pitched to Neve Campbell in order to persuade her to return. This new trilogy is a commentary on the "making of a serial killer". Sam will be Ghostface in SCREAM 6. She will survive until SCREAM 7 when she is placed in a mental institution where ( Stu) is located. He will be the puppet master for the final killings in 7. Gale will die; leaving Sydney walking away the ultimate final girl. Sam is the twist in the new trilogy because she is actually the villian not the hero

That Tera was living in Casey's house and Amber being in sids. Seeing Billy back as a ghost was definitely cool even at the end helping Sam find the knife smiling at her when she went full psyco mode like thats my girl. I definitely think that brutal murder unlocked something in her head maybe for her to be the next killer getting a taste for blood.

I absolutely loved this movie! Saw it in a packed theater with people cheering throughout. As a long time fan of the franchise, it felt like a return to form. They even passed out posters at the theater of ghostface. The entire experience felt like going to see a Scream movie in the 90's. It was awesome! The film was nearly perfect. It was the perfect mix of humor, horror and nostalgia. And the commentary of toxic fandom was 100% spot on. And you're right with the fandom literally proving the filmmakers points. TH-camrs and toxic fandoms have spiralled out of control. When you make your entire personality off hating the thing you claim to love and worse make a living off of it, you're a special kind of ignorance. Although I really enjoyed 4, this film felt like it could be the perfect ending to the franchise, or a great starting off to a new franchise.
