Jus rewatched scream 4 again last night and all I can say is wow , no other horror franchise has had such a good consistent quality like the scream movies have . Jill beating the shit out of herself is the highlight for me

@@rileytipper5110 No it's not. 4 is the weakest for the reasons I've explained. It was a lousy attempt of a revival with story tweaks, character swaps and pretty much all of its deleted scenes included and better filtering could have made it really shine. It fell flat and the franchise went dead for a decade because of it. How the hell do you pin Scream 4 over 2??? Over how the killer is revealed? How are Jill and Charlie any better? At least with #2 you have two grown adults who have more experience to pull off than what Jill and Charlie should have been able to do. Puh-leeeeease. You're giving this lackluster of a sequel way too much praise that it's humorous at this point.
I love this movie so much! I don’t understand the hate at all! I also feel this way about Halloween 2018! The ending of scream 4 left me in chills! It was so impactful 👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾

I find it interesting how no one's parents are ever around in any of these movies. When I was growing up my at least one of my parents was ALWAYS HOME! They didn't go nowhere, definitely not on vacation for days at a time. They went to work, church (I had to go too) and came home. That's it! Jill's mom was the only parent we saw and she was useless!
We saw Wes mom with her son wes in the house in scream 5 but then she left to get sushi leaving her son alone in the house
Most of these kids have parents, caseys parents didn't make it in time, Steven orth died, principle himbry is a dude, stus parents obviously wouldn't stick around if he was having a party so everything that happened in the house is excusable, that's just for the first scream though

Scream 4 was AMAZING! Soon as I left the theater that night I said , “wow, it’s the best thing since the oringinal” it was a great movie!

Scream 4 is very underrated, I really thought this movie was better than its predecessor and tried to take the series back to its roots. I just hope Scream (2022) gets more positive feedback and gets people scared by Ghostface again

4 executed its ideas so well...it really was like the original in reboot form done well as a sequel...props well done its probably the best of the 4 sequels
@@razkable nothing like the original. The first two are leagues ahead. I didn't like 3 the first time i watched it but it was pretty decent watching it recently and it was pretty creative in how they use the voice changer and duplicate the voices of the main characters. The killer was poor choice. Part 4 was just corny and the characters were dull and killers were laughable they couldn't bust a grape in real life and somehow they are like some unstoppable force.
I’ll never understand how this movie didn’t perform good at the box office like it’s really good people were just different at the time and didn’t understand anything. Jill imo is the most psycho of all these killers especially with her harming herself like that’s dedication to avoid having to work💀
People weren’t as nostalgic in 2011. They wanted the next big thing. The Force Awakens changed that. Now movies only do fan service.

@@doc8013 I enjoy 5 a bit more personally but my main point was that I would never consider 4 underrated with how the fandom often ranks it. It certainly didn’t perform as well at the box office as the others’ but that was more due to the timing of the original release.
@@JeremyPryer ageee that it isn't underrated by a large portion of the fanbase but it's the movie with the most and biggest split in its popularity. The people that like it, love it. And the ones that don't, put it at the bottom of the list. I say it's underrated because it's always gonna land somewhere in the middle of the pack when it should be behind only the first one.
@@doc8013 I’m not even sure that’s true - I’ve seen 2 get a more split reaction now than 4 but 3 is easily the one with the worst reception (and I personally still have fun with it!)

this is my comfort movie, I'm not kidding, I know all the lines of this movie like the back of my hand.
I know not alot of people liked this 4th one but I actually really enjoyed it, I'm into the new generation type of Scream, such as Scream 4, I have 3 favorite scenes of this movie and I just loved it so so much.
I'm a younger fan of Scream, I was almost 6 when Scream 4 was released so when I came back to watch Scream 4 after years for just some Nostalgia after Scream 5 was announced I was surprised how well it holds up. Jill's motive, which probably didn't make much then, makes so much sense now. In this day and age there are a lot of people who would hurt others for clout. And I remember nack in 2019 - 2020 some dude would kill his neighbor with his girlfriend recording the incident, intending to become popular on TikTok. This solidified how great Scream 4 really is.

I love Scream 4, and I think it serves as a better conclusion to the original trilogy than 3. The Jill/family connection is more impactful than the Roman angle.
True but my only issue is it begs the question, has Sydneys aunt (her mom's sister) just been chilling in town through allll the shit in the trilogy without ever showing up or contacting her niece? It's a small nit pick but something that kinda makes me laugh.
Not to mention the whole hicks vs kincaid angle...hicks is way better as a red hearing and 4th survivor...she seemed more like a character than Patrick Dempsey who played himself
Jills Motive was the most Disturbing out of all the Killers. She wanted to kill all her friends including her own Mother

Dude, I saw this once. I thought it was shit. But after listening to this review, you’re actually right. It was ahead of its time and it wasn’t bad after all. Great review man!
Oh no, it was bad. Keep that original thought. So much of this movie was all wrong, the filtering that got it looking all glossy, twenty minutes of deleted footage just lost that could have really helped develop the movie some more, the ending was so abrupt like they were in a rush to end it, and so on. The camera social media stuff was not at all "infant" as Chris makes it at 11:40 when you have movies like HALLOWEEN RESURRECTION which was ten years earlier and involved social media and live web cams. That was more-so in the toddler stage since it was 2001 and perhaps the first horror movie to really showcase this at the time, but it started in the early-to-mid 1990s. Things got a lot more advanced by Scream 4's time. Social media and live streams wasn't anything new.
Don't keep that original thought like this dude's saying. Rewatch it with a positive new outlook and see what you think. If you love it, great. If you still hate it, that's also okay
@@devontehuntley6274 I don't think it's correct to compare 2001's Halloween Resurrection with Scream 4...Social media (like Facebook and Twitter) were not a thing at all in 2001. TH-cam wasn't even invented. We had webcams yes but we were not consuming social media as much back in 2001. We just didn't have many options. 2011 was social media at its infancy...in terms of becoming a huge consuming power in how we absorb and communicate information. Twitter was just becoming popular. TH-cam had only been a thing for 6-7 years at that point. So I wouldn't say Halloween Resurrection featured "social media" because that part of "the internet" didn't exist then. But when you look at social media from 2011 to now currently....social media is even more powerful and all consuming now. Scream 4 is lauded as ahead of its time because for 2011 it was: they created a motive in Jill wanting to be an influencer/famous when that term/phrase wasn't even as prevalent as it is now with social media. Now look at social media: We have so many more platforms for people to become "influencers" and notoriety. So I do think Scream 4 was ahead of its time in that respect.
@@Alexander-bs5xj Maybe you're right on SOME aspects, but the point is, the social media thing wasn't quite in its infancy by 2011 as one may think. We've had people making online videos and web shows as far back as the 1990s, so granted we didn't have the Instagram, the Snapchat, the Tik Tok, but we still had a lot of other platforms by then for years of existing to act like it was all brand new. In 2001, there were the platforms at the times kind of like what we have now. Not the exact same ones, but they were similar. Chat rooms were a thing and a chunk of Resurrection has two main characters communicating through it and that aspect was used in the final girl's survival. I'd say social media was more-so in its infant stages THEN than by 2011 where it's evolved significantly. Even by 2031, it will have evolved more that makes the 2020-2022 era look dated and come off "infant". But it was well advanced at THAT time than where it started two decades back and it was like that by 2011. Again, this started in the 1990s so it was more of an infant by 2001 than any of the following decades down the line here.
The issue was some of the characters felt very flat 2d cartoon goofy or boring bland....if all the new kids side characters and police were written like Jill Kirby and Hicks this movie could of been better than 1....instead the rest of of new cast feel like fodder or generic...shame...they had something original and unique with 4 while paying homage and having respect but they messed it up because they don't want us feeling too bad for the deaths so they write those characters poorly
I remember having arguments with people back when this came out about how great it was, it’s painfully underrated and a lot of folks didn’t get the meta shit or social commentaries, they just wanted a mindless slasher.
We have made it all the way through the Scream marathon and now we can get ready for Scream (2022) this weekend

Scream 4 is so GOOD! I think people tried to write it off due to the last one and the overload of meta references to other horror movies but with all that aside Jill was the perfect Killer honestly and all those things she said in 2011 still hold up till this day fr okay maybe not the f-up part for fame eventhough that does happen🤭 and can we just give her, her props as she was the first killer not to make scream or make mad noises when she came alive for the second time.

This was actually the first scream movie I’ve seen and it was a awesome scream version of a remake and I don’t expect scream 5 to to out do the original but I feel it has potential to be better than this film my franchise ranking (scream 1,scream 4,scream 3 ,scream 2)

I just binged the Scream franchise, over the last few days, and Screfourem is my absolute favorite!
No movie has shocked me as much as the twist in this movie. It’s so fresh and surprising, but yet believable at the same time. You could watch this movie so many times because of how fun it is and the fresh energy of some of the new cast (Emma, Hayden, Marley).
Shocked you never seen the scream 4 extended cut. Different opening scene. And better character development. Love scream 4 so underrated.
On the subject of Sydney and Dewey's relationship, because Sydney was friends with Dewey's sister Tatum, he's just taking on the role of Sydney's surrogate big brother, which Sydney even calls him that in Scream 2
Scream 4 is so underrated is a definite must watch it’s so good loved Gale in this one and loved Jill and Kirby hope she returns in 5CREAM
Maybe not in 5 but possibly in six. Not a spoiler but a fun easter egg, you learn Kirby's fate in two easter eggs in scream 5 :)

Scream 4 was the first scream movie I saw, the scene where he was in the other closet had me going crazy. I'll never forget that day.
My 2nd favorite in the franchise, masterpiece, ahead of its time!!!! Like the new cast and old cast so much in this film.
my only issues with 4 is they didn't kill gale they didn't have a third killer and how emma and hayden look 24 in this not anything like high school kids..makes me laugh every time..kirby dresses like she's 28
I loved the subtle touch they did with Jill's ex-boyfriend having an outfit identical to Sydney's father in the first movie. I also liked how they reversed the Gail filming the teenagers thing with the Killer filming her before she attacks her and how the reporters got the story wrong at the end that Jill was the hero as opposed to the original with Gail actually getting the story right in the first one.
I think 4 could of been a 9/10 if they killed gale and if there was a third killer be it kirby the ex bf of jill or hicks....but thats just me...its still a 7.9...
100%. The motive was perfect. So ahead of its time and clever i thought. I really think scream 4 was the perfect stepping stone we needed to see where the characters were all at in 2011 after a decade. I did the job it needed to do. And the idea for the original S5 onwards sounded really good too
4 is a success and greater than 2 and 3 and 5....it had wes kevin neve cox david hayden emma anderson and rory...that's a lot of talent lol....no wonder why it works
If you really think about, Jill's motivation is similar to Mickey's. Both of them want their time in the spotlight. The only difference is that Mickey wants to take credit for his crimes while Jill wants to be a fabricated victim of her own crimes.

This movie is truly a masterpiece, one of my all-time favorites. It's so sad the fact that it flopped I would've loved seeing the whole planned trilogy, but here we are now finally getting a new installment in the franchise so let's just hope it doesn't disappoint.
It made a lot of money...the issue was its budget....they wasted so much money marketing wise gore wise props stunts sets wise and they just had to bring in famous people who demanded high salary to be in a slasher...and die..like Emma Hayden Anthony even Rory to go with Cox David and Neve and Kevin and Wes even..they didnt have to do that....the og 3 would of sold the film...you don't need to go over board to sell scream at that point...it sold itself but 3 killed its buzz so they felt they had to go all out for fans to return but they didn't realize fans were starved and would of accepted anything at that time

Oh wow man… I agree with you 100%. I’ve always been a HUGE fan of Scream 4. It’s the first motive rooted in reality, instead of a fictitious family drama. The 3rd act is so twisted and the kills are so brutal. Agree with every single word and so happy to learn more people agree with me

This is why I think in Scream 6, it would be fascinating that the killer or killers are OBSESSED with Sidney, the way Jill was, but not on becoming Sidney, but killing off all the stragglers and making Sid THE ONLY survivor...out of their love for her

100% agree man. I’ve always said I may like it more than the original. I think it’s very underrated. The reveal was awesome and to me it seemed more brutal. I loved all the new characters too.
I definitely enjoyed Scream 4, I thought it was clever that they played into how the new age of technology was going and where it definitely seemed like it was headed (and that's exactly where it was headed), but that's also the biggest problem with the film is that it was way too ahead of its time, I think Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson should've waited to make this film until 2014 or 2015 to be more successful with this idea. Obviously Wes died in 2015, but could've still made it and released in 2014 which would've helped the film on all fronts, especially with the box office. It definitely looks like the new Scream played perfectly, and much more up to date with the Scream 4 concept because it made way more sense to use it now. I definitely don't think its anywhere close to the original or Scream 2, it lays in more of the mid-tier between Scream 2 and Scream 3 for me.

For me I mostly saw Dewey as a brother figure to Sydney he just came off as one in the 2nd Scream and 3.

Excellent emphasis on the social media and modern remake theme of the film, they are now being done to death with people doing stupid things for fame and the trend of 'requels' and in that regard, SCRE4M is really, REALLY a film ahead of its time!
Also I believe Jill did most of the killings based on her behaviour in the final act in the hospital, her movements are BRUTAL abd straight to the point and very much like this version of GF, while Charlie's is more aggressive and elaborate with multiple stabbings.
I thought of the Saw movies when I first saw the opening sequence. It gets tiresome and predictable to the point you want the movies to stop. Makes sense if Scream is poking fun at it
This is my favourite Scream movie since the original, there's actually an alternate cut available for free on TH-cam that I recommend everyone watch. The extra 15 minutes or so makes the script flow so much better.

A great review you did on this film man but I can’t go that far to say this film was a masterpiece only because I don’t consider it to be better than Scream 1 or 2, I would say definitely better than Scream 3. I still liked Scream 4 but to this day I kinda find the film to be pointless. Besides some of the creative easter eggs & points of using modern day technology that they used in the film to try & create new rules in the slasher horror genre, if Wes Craven & them was giving/saying the big FU or middle finger to reboots and remakes which I can appreciate, in a way they still tried to reboot the franchise, especially now knowing that they wanted to make another trilogy. With all that I was very disappointed with the ending & I definitely would have loved to seen the characters of Jill & Kirby in the next film like 5cream. Not a bad film at all though, just wish it was more impactful with the direction & decision that they went with.

Emma roberts was a good casting choice for the role. She ended up doing some great things in American Horror Story a few years after this

5:57 And it contrasts her with Gale because while Sidney wrote the Out of Darkness book to help people who's gone through similar things to what she had whereas Gale had writer's block and couldn't think what to write because there'd been no Ghostface murders for a decade and no good stories for her to chase.
I personally love the 4th one and felt like Scream 5 was just an inferior version of Scream 4. I'd have been perfectly content with 4 ending the whole thing

I like the multilayered opening but it would’ve worked better to incorporate Sydney in some way so the audience knows that the final one is real.
Scream 4 was pretty good . I liked it. Scream 1996 is always gonna be the best one though
I cant decide where this stands in my ranking. On the one hand the movie is really well made and probably the highest quality since the original. However, the twist/reveal is so painfully obvious that even I figured it out at the start of the movie, and I never figured anything out in the original 3.
Wow I'm glad the role of Jill didn't go to Selena Gomez. Emma Roberts was perfect casting and she gave an incredible performance!

But watching it recently it was pretty good i like how the killer had the ability to change voice it was pretty ahead of it's time. But the killer was a disappointment. 4 was just money grab and pretty weak they left it a long time to make the 4th and having some dorky teens being some super killers is laughable. The kills were awful and so fake. I'm looking forward to seeing the 5th film.

FINALLY SOMEONE MENTIONS THE CINEMATOGRAPHY!! It doesn’t look pretty but I do respect Wes’s idea of the cinematography for reboots and remakes did at the time so I can respect it but I still don’t really like it but I get it

Thanks so much for touching on the cinematography of this film, cuz that’s always been my biggest peeve of this film. It has that good Rupaul Drag Race season 1 “filter”. But the fact Wes chose this as a mise en scene nod makes my film buff heart happy now✌🏾✨ - Long time fan, first time caller 😄
My bday yesterday so going with a group of people for the new scream Saturday. Absolutely pumped for it! Really enjoy the reviews it’s a fun look back at the franchise and it’s really changed my view of my favs. Can’t wait to come back and discuss the new one next week, thanks again!

Glad you acknowledged it: That glossy finish on the movie was distracting to me, a longtime fan of the Scream franchise, and made it hard to watch (literally). Another relative of Sydney's turning out to be ghostface? I feel this movie lacked originality and/or the writers got lazy. I love the movie only because it's part of my favorite slasher franchise but I think it could have been alot better. This new installment is gonna nail it!

even Scream 3 is good, though still not on the level of the originals and 4, so for me it’s:

I honestly love this movie. Definitely ranked in a close second with the first in front just slightly!
The first was original but 4 was greater for the modern era...it aged better..1 and 4 are good...2 3 and 5 suck sorry people..2 had a good final scene but meh before that its boring
Scream 4 is my favorite. Way better than the original in my opinion. This film is also way better to view with all deleted scenes and a post-credit scene. It was perfect!
Years ago, I saw a link on a certain youtube video that you could download the entire film (which I did of course). The video claimed that the film was fan-edited, but the finished product looked perfect and professional, it is as if it's a Director's Cut or an Extended version.
The main difference is the opening scene with Jenny and Marnie, having Marnie being the last one to be killed before the title card. Then, it also includes the aftermath of the crime scene. Also an extended conversation in the hallway between Jill and Trevor; the fountain scene with the friends; Gale inviting Sidney to go back to Woodsboro High; and a whole lot more!
You should watch it!

This movie really is an underrated gem, I did have a few issues with it though:
1. The OG opening scene that was reshot, was superior. The chase scene we got instead was cringe.
2. Some of the deleted scenes in general were actually great and could have added to the plot and character development.
3. A couple forced jokes/moments.
4. Charlie as a killer & his obvious betrayal from Jill (although his reveal via stabbing Kirby was great).
5. The hospital ending felt like an inserted 4th act and affected the pacing imo.
Weird thing about this movie I heard was that the Robbie character was written with the idea of possibly having a famous TH-camr play him, Shane Dawson was apparently one of the producers favourites at the time but everyone else shot down the idea after looking at his content and Wes just hated the idea of putting any TH-camr in his movie. I think Shane's even mentioned this briefly in one of his videos somewhere but....can you imagine? o_0
Underrated? It's overrated people also talk about how much they love the 4th and I never understand why I think it's the worst Scream
3 is no doubt the worst.

I love this film a lot but the idea of our main 3 being untouchable could be wrong due to the final Scream5 trailer containing a little clip of Gale screaming in anguish while their is paramedics and an ambulance in the background making me sadly believe Dewey dies

BUT this one ain’t it papa. Lol Scream 4 is straight up corny and awful and don’t get how you liked this. I honestly stopped watching horror films within the time frame of 2008-2012, because they all just were straight up awful. Again love your videos and I’m PUMPED for Scream 5!

Scream 3 was the perfect finale for a perfect trilogy and undoing that was irresponsible.
I think this Scream film underrated to watch. But my favourite Scream film is still the first one. Can not wait for Chris's review on the new Scream film.
Scream is already in its correct order best to worst....scream 4 screwed up when they tried to convince that a 5'2 110 lb girl was ghost face lol
just gotta say- commentating and commentate are words associated with news broadcasts and relate more to a play by play of events, such as you commentating this movie.. the words you mean to use are comment and commenting, which is touching upon a topic, such as this scream movie comments on a lot of current (at that time) horror movie tropes...theyre very similar in sound but mean completely different things and the more you know.
In the new SCREAM , when Richie's watching STAB on youtube theres a reccomended Video of Kirby surviving the killings !! Easter egg ! :)
