A friend had a large (4-5) carat emerald cut stone around a simple chain, exquisitely green, felt as if I was looking into the pulsating heart of a forest. It was mesmerizing.
I asked her where she got, did she know what it was, she said she didn't know what it was, but it came from her White Russian grandmother, who had escaped during the 1917 Revolution... She had been Russian aristocracy.
I realized she had a real vintage Ural Mountain demantoid garnet, and she should get it appraised and insured, that she had multiple thousands of dollars on her neck!
Those old ones are rare, there's SOME informal mining going on there, but the very best went into Faberge eggs!

:) I remember a few videos on this channel about color-change garnets. When you carry it to daylight and it turns sky-blue - it's just WOW!

They are very cool! We wish they were more available, just difficult to get currently.

My brother has one. The GIA (Carlsbad) certificate shows as pyrope-spessartine garnet. Color change from greenish blue to purple in incandescent light. 1.05 carat. Looking for a buyer if not auction at Sotheby’s.

Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge! You motivated me to get my collection organized. I finished my list of garnets yesterday. Finding your garnet video was perfect timing!! I am interested in an Arizona green garnet. If you keep a list, please add me to it. Also, I have a couple garnets that the description is unclear: "golden garnet" (light yellow)? and several of what I think you called Malaya garnet (wife's pendant). My invoice says "Masasi Bordeaux Reserve garnet". They're medium/dark pink. All of my invoices say "Tanzania" and "color change" or "shift". I see maybe a little color change in the pink ones to maybe peachy. Would those be Malaya? What is the proper name? Also, Alice and I emailed last week about a royal purple garnet. You have a cushion she thought was your best, but I'd prefer more purple. If you get one, please let her or me know. Thanks so much for such an informational video. You and your staff are great!! penny

What kind was the second faceted one that was very red but not too dark? That's exactly what I'm looking for.

I can understand why your favorite gemstone is garnet. My favorites in this presentation is the huge malaia pendant and the merelani mint garnets. I would like to like hessonites but they always have so many little inclusions that the grossulars can have.

I find lots of garnets while dredging. Most of them are super dark almost black but some nice red ones

I have so many of these in my collection because I love garnet. I just got some of the blue color change garnet. I was so excited to get some because it seems to be hard to come by.
I loved your video. The 10 CT Malia garnet is exquisite.
Tsavorite and Demantoid are my absolute favorite. One of my collector goals is a 2 + carat Demantoid with a horsetail inclusion.
Such an enjoyable video. Can't wait to watch more of your videos.

Just stumbled on your video after collecting various common and semi-precious garnets on eBay. I'll have to look into getting some pure pyrope although the almandine will be just fine for the common deep red color. I love the green varieties of garnet and have been able to acquire a Demantoid & a Tsavorite garnet. Hopefully and maybe one day there will be an individual who auctions a 1-3 carat Uvarovite garnet.
