    My local trails. They don't look like that any more - Storm Anwen took its toll, so many of the lines are very different now. And you came up in Summer - my favourite day of the year.

    Great vid - love your commentary and good riding :) I also appreciate the way you split the vid up by the trails and sort the timeline accordingly - really cool when looking to see what a trail is like before heading there :)

    What's the climbs like?

    • @MountainBikePete
      @MountainBikePete  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They’re not too bad. There’s two fire roads you use to get up. First one is ok. Second is a little steeper but still ok. Then at the end of that there is a little bit of a push up. Tbh I didn’t think the push up was that bad as it was quite short and you gain some good elevation.
      Then you get to enjoy the really awesome trails!

    what are you doing? this handlebar does not match the geometry of the frame, therefore you usually have too little grip on the front wheel

      I'm afraid I don't understand why you've said this? What do you mean? Can yo be a bit more specific please?

      @@MountainBikePete read this:" Not many people talk about bar height. Perhaps that's because you can't really "sell" a particular bar height in the way that you can market a wheel size, stanchion diameter or fork offset. The thing is, in my view bar height makes a much bigger difference than any of those things.
      In my job I do a lot of back-to-back testing of different bikes, components or setups. But to be honest, in a lot of cases it's splitting hairs. In contrast, even a 5mm change in bar height can have a noticeable effect on how the bike handles, yet this tuning option is often overlooked. And because of the way bikes are designed, I think a lot of people are not running the optimum bar height.
      The right bar height is important for maintaining enough bend in the elbows for traction at the front, without feeling forced too far forward or too far back.
      Why is bar height important?
      The main thing is to keep a good amount of bend in your elbows while in the attack position. You want enough of a bend so that you can push the front wheel down into down-slopes and holes to maintain pressure on the front wheel, but not so much that you have less room to absorb impacts. This arm movement is a bit like sag in suspension - you need enough elbow bend to allow you to extend your arms to maintain grip, but leave enough room to absorb impacts.
      If the bar is too low you might find yourself hyper-extending your arms while trying to push the bike away to maintain contact with the ground on steep steps or downslopes. It also makes it harder to look up to see further down the trail, and it's harder to manual too. If the bar is too high, your weight can feel pushed back off the front wheel, or the bar feels too close to your chest. To me the subjective feeling is one of being disconnected from the front wheel and too upright - like riding a Segway. A bar that's too high can also make the bike feel slower to change direction in tightly alternating turns."

      @@axt_messer_survival Wow! That’s some information to take in there Alfred. Very informative and I bow down to your knowledge sir.
      So upon looking at my bar height. What do you suggest or are your observations?
      My bars are 760mm long with a 38mm riser (I think).
      It feels good for me at the moment. I did have a smaller riser but I changed it because I wanted to learn manuals and wheelies, and it did make it easier (not that I can do long ones of either) so I stuck with it.

    • @axt_messer_survival
      @axt_messer_survival 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MountainBikePete That explains everything, think about why the manual one works better than usual, because you sit more upright on the bike due to the high rise and there is less pressure (weight) on the front wheel. But that's exactly what you don't need when driving steep downhill, you lose traction and the steering behavior becomes sluggish. in other words you make it artificially difficult for yourself to refresh yourself

    • @MountainBikePete
      @MountainBikePete  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@axt_messer_survival Yes that was the reason for the bigger rise. I’m not sure I’ve noticed much of a difference when riding steep stuff tho. I think the only way to spot the difference is to swap the bars for a lower one I suppose.
