At 66 years old I've never worn a helmet ⛑️, however this next year SHALL be different. Thanks for the info because I'm in the market for a new helmet.

Matt, another great informative video for a beginner looking for his first helmet. Loved the science showing the MIPS advantage. Thank you !!

Thanks, glad it helped! Hopefully you never have to benefit from the MIPS ever but at least you know it’s there if you need it!!

Does MIPS work when your straps aren't that tight? It seems like they should be really tight for it to work.

Yes and no. The straps are there to keep the helmet in place on your head but in general (MIPS or not) you want to have a helmet that fits comfortably snug on your head no matter how tight the chin strap is. Check out this video about proper helmet fit for a great visual explanation-> th-cam.com/video/HonvVlqueB4/w-d-xo.html

Definitely would not, not going to meet the specifications for a motor vehicle.

is the mips helmet bigger at all?

No, it's just a thin piece added to the inside under the padding.

does this "mips" system seem like a massive con to add an extra 2-300 £$ to a helmet? seriously what use is a bit of foam that moves slightly as your head is bashed onto the ground. the inside foam will move regardless. What does this thing actually do other than add lots of money.

@@sashacoe25 like Matt said in the video, it slows down the rotational trauma caused by the brain moving inside your skull upon an abrupt stop when your head/helmet comes in contact with something. The rest of the foam takes up the impact trauma. Most of the companies have more MIPS helmets nowadays than not because the price difference is not as crazy as it seems. You’ll find that if you compare the EXACT same helmet in non-MIPS vs MIPS (ie Sweet Protection Winder, Giro Ledge, Anon Rodan, etc) is usually only a $20-$40 difference. And for significantly reducing any trauma to the brain it’s MORE than worth it.
