I have to say, I always do enjoy seeing your videos! I was wondering since you are such a big fan of Lovecraft and the mythology that he created, if you would ever consider doing a video on one of his more major correspondence being Robert E Howard? The two of them shared so many ideas and corresponded so much that even Robert E Howard's gods that he created for many of his stories are actually part of the Lovecraft mythos in one way or another. I think a lot of Lovecraft enthusiast would be interested in hearing about some of these gods and entities. Very few have done any videos, and none have done to your caliber. Food for thought.

Close enough, like most of HP's stuff there's always room for interpretation and I look at many, since HP was often vague intentionally we're left with having fun w it all, the less detail maybe the spookier it can be to ppl and such is the purpose of classic horror, even I write stuff in this manner, the moment you know the threat it doesn't seem as threatening, if it's vague and you can't get a handle on it, it's creepier and better. Coincidence? I hope so...
God of fish seems to be the main consensus of this one, but I wonder what else there is to this one. It seems almost simple when compared to the eldritch beings and Elder Gods but I suppose not all of these creatures have to be beyond comprehension or reality. And w/ our limited knowledge of the deep sea, maybe it's better to keep out of such unfathomable depths. Great video, it was nice to watch and learned a little from it.

Jordan Maxwell said Dagon is an ancient fish god that the elites worship such as the Pope, and that's why the Pope's hat looks like a fish mouth if viewed from sideways. Is that true? Where did Lovecraft get his ideas from? Ancient mythology or wholely made up? I heard that creativity always imbeds truth in fiction.

It's funny how Lovecraft's work has sort of warped Dagon in modern culture: the original Dagon is a Sumerian harvest deity, but both times I've seen the name in pop culture they were attributed to an aquatic monster (once in Godzilla 2014 where the skeleton of one of Gojira's species is code named Dagon, and in Darksiders Genesis as a demon lord of water). Lovecraft basically rewrote our perception of the character.

It seems that Lovecraft had a deep knowledge of Sumerian mythology LONG before the cuneiform clay tablets were translated. His nightmares may have been extraterrestrial communications.

I don't feel the man saw dagon himself rather a old deep one. My assumption for this is, the man observed writing of sorts on the monolith that suggested worship of dagon. The creature observed wrapped its arms around the monolith in worship it would seem illogical for dagon to be worshipping himself hence I assumed a old deep one was witnessed probably one of the last in an eternal cycle of worship. But having said that applying logic to lovecraft is probably illogical at best.

  • @JoshuaADemic

So, it's a Lovecraftian god with scaly arms, a hideous head, vaguely humanoid but otherwise only poorly described by the few insane survivors that have seen it, associated with the ocean with secretive cults around the coastal areas and as "A Shadow Over Innsmouth" illuminates, there is an ancient and large worship of it in the South Pacific. My headcanon is that Dagon is an aspect of Cthulhu or another name for Cthulhu.
