Derlerth knew how much adding a Native American monster into the pantheon would make H.P. Lovecraft roll in his grave, so Derlerth made him tall and as white as possible.
As far as Canon goes with Lovecraft, I just make up whatever I want. Let's face it, that's what Lovecraft did and he freely encouraged others to do the same. If something doesn't make sense it's because it's not supposed to. If you like something accept it and if not discard it. This is a world of cosmic, supernatural, horror inhabited by beings we cannot possibly understand, or relate to and any attempt to do so would drive us to total insanity. My general rule of thumb is that if Lovecraft wrote it, it's canon. Everything else is up to the reader.
I think I've read everything by Lovecraft at least once but so far nothing by Derleth. I'll have to look at the expanded Cthulu-verse a bit more. Great video, thanks!👻☠️👍
www.scaryforkids.com/burning-feet/ That's the first time I personally ever heard of Wendigo at all. This video is *very* good. The actual myths and stories are sooooo much scarier than this kids' version of Blackwood's imagining.
He’s got a much more definitive physical form than most great old ones such as Cthulhu and nyralthroltep, but that fits for a god of cold and ice rather than the oceans
I read that part of the reason he impregnates human women is not just to overthrow the Old Gods, but because he is the last of his kind, perhaps the Old Gods having wiped out his people, and wants to create another like himself, but all such children inevitably break free of his psychic seed and turn on him, leaving him alone once again.
I like the notion that, as Dagon/Hydra was elevated from a normal Deep One, that Ithaqua was similar elevated. That beneath it furry it has the physiology of a Deep One; a Deep one of a frozen sea. Maybe that's just me.
Not gonna lie, seems a hell of a lot better than the other Lovecraftian gods in my opinion (except for a maybe few, such as Yig, Atlach-Nacha, or Shub-Niggurath). So screw it, I'd join his cult to help overthrow the other gods.
What i think would be interesting but also kinda funny is if Ithaqua ever finds a woman that is capable of giving him a child that he seeks it would have to come from love not vengeance but since it comes from love he wouldn't want to see his child come to harms way thus he must give up an vengeance. Then as he looks back on every he has done he realizes how much time he wasted on revenge

Ithaqua, the most hated ancient one in the board game "Eldritch Horror" (at least in our group). The game designers captuared his essence really well
Beat him first try with 2 investigators. Tasks that advance the mystery are so scuffed.
So if a woman doesn't give him the powerful son he desires, he gives her the cold shoulder and asks her over for dinner? Cold cuts, of course.
