Floating Through Burgundy

  • A week cruising south on the Canal du Nivernais in Burgundy France. I was onboard a canal boat called Beauregard owned by Australian friends.
    Beautiful countryside drifting by at a slow pace, lots of interesting villages, the medieval town of Clamecy, and other folks on the canal and running the many locks made for an enjoyable time.
    An accompanying coffee table book filled with beautiful photographs of this region is available on Amazon: www.blurb.com/...
    The trip departed from Auxerre and travelled south to Châtillon-en-Bazois in Burgundy, France.
    From the owner, Gary:
    BEAUREGARD was built by Locaboat Industries in France. The Company still exists (HQ in Joigny) and operates now purely as a charter company. My boat type, the “classic 1107” is not built anymore, but the company does sell off their older “classics" when they reach a certain point.
    Filmed in 1080p 50fps using internal mike, hand held with a Panasonic Lumix FZ1000 camera. Edited in Apple Final Cut Pro X.
    The full length version of this video is here:

    I started watching “Cruising the Cut” which occurs in England it seems that the areas of France in this video are much more “mountainous” and the stone architecture much more prevalent than in England. Very beautiful. Are some canals limited to narrow boats compared to wide beam? Is your boat considered a wide beam?

    • @serendigity
      @serendigity  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello, it was not my boat, I was a guest onboard. The boat was fairly narrow and some of the sections of the canal we traversed were only just wide enough for our boat with a one way traffic light system.

    • @Memovox
      @Memovox 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it's a wide-beam. 4.30-4.85 m. is ideal for European waterways.
      Narrow boats are built specific for the narrow English canal's.

    Questions:
    . What Is the speed limit on a canal ?
    . Is the motor noisy ?
    . Isn't the trip boring at some point ? For the pilot vs for the guest.
    . Have you seen people using the canal for fret ? Or only leisure ?
    . Would you navigate on the same canals in winter ?
