Love the transparency. I've never understood why it's a faux pas to talk about costs unless you are afraid you paid too much 🤷🏼‍♀️
I used to coach students through writing business plans, including start-up financials, and finding accurate information could be so difficult! I think some students would get frustrated and just pull numbers out of the air. The exercise was almost always enlightening when they could find good numbers... more than one student decided their business idea simply was not feasible. More transparency would keep a lot of people from finding out the hard way they are in over their heads.

Thank you for this comment, "finding out the hard way they are in over their heads" is sometimes referred to as experience ~ but also I think, some people want to keep the true costs of things hidden so they can take advantage of the naive, or rather the less experienced. For us, specifically with this boat, we had done a market survey, we understood what boats in this range cost and when we made the offer we were happy with the price paid as we felt it was a price in our favor.
Thanks for this insightful comment Andrea!

Looks like you made a good deal. I thought the asking price was very high considering the price the previous owner paid and the 4+ years in depreciation.

Yeah thanks. You can sometimes find these boats for sale by Kuhule Werft and they ask about 35 to 50 thousand more than we paid for a similar boat.

Hi, a steel boat that is well maintained lasts forever. As a result they depreciate very slowly. Apart from that, the value of a boat is what the buyer wants to pay for it. The boat market is a niche market that fluctuates. If 100 boats are for sale and there's only 80 potential buyers, you'll have to drop your price substantially. If there's 120 potential buyers, you can stick to your price. If this boat was built after the year 2000, it was sold at a very decent price.
