- What you see here is a 1600HP 9ff Porsche 997 Turbo MkI participated in this years SCC500's event 'Rolling50 Deutsche Meisterschaft' on Black Forest Airport in Lahr, Germany. This event is all about dragracing. 1000m, a rolling start at 50km/h and insane cars! The wheel spin accelerations at high speed are truly amazing!
The top speed of this insane Porsche is 351,77 km/h (218mph)!!

You are missing the point, that 997 is an old car at this point, it's not the latest and greatest. The Bugatti is. But that Porsche: 1. costs a fraction of the price 2. Is hanging with a multimillion hyper-car 3. is not designed to drag race , yet when modified right, is dominating. The 911 is the most versatile car in history... it races in 24h races, Rally, GT, Drag, Autocross, you name it, the 911 has done it. Porsche has done it. Let Porsche build a 3million dollar car and I bet they can do a lot better than that Bugatti.
@@jackrotter9434 The Chiron is 3,000,000 because of the brand.. Porsche have already made a Hypercar and its not particularly impressive when you compare it to the Chiron.
BitRefresh I’m sure if Porsche wanted to beat the Chiron, they easily have the resources and engineering to do it. Not everything is about straight line speed. Bugatti doesn’t have anything to compete with the the Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo.

The Chiron isnt just about straight line speed either. Bugatti isnt in the business of racing either. So of course, they dont have an LMP car to rival the 919. With these kinds of HP numbers, getting all that power to the ground seems to be the biggest obstacle.
by the sounds made by the 9ff the problem is somewhere between the engine and the wheels.

For example, right now the Porsche crew is frantically throwing ice blocks into the Porsche intakes to stop it from exploding when the race begins. The Porsche driver is also already sweating in his Nomex overalls , fireproof gloves and race grade helmet, all this to keep the driver safe just in case, because you really don't know what could happen. Meanwhile, the Bugatti driver is just chilling there in a t-shirt in his climate controlled, leather lined cockpit, playing on his phone. He doesn't need any preparation for anything. He doesn't need ice blocks for his engine, or fireproof protective garments and helmets. When the race starts, he will simply put his phone down and put his foot down. Yes, that Porsche may be cheaper, may produce more power, and may be faster in a drag race. But the Porsche makes a lot of comfort and safety sacrifices in order to achieve that level of performance. The Bugatti doesn't. It gives you the sublime of both worlds. It's both comfortable and very, very fast. There is no other car like it. And I can't afford one.

Honestly came here expecting to see an embarrassed Chiron but the amount the Porsche was visibly twisting and cracking up on gear changes whilst the more powerful Chiron was so chill shows it up

Those arent radiator ducts. They are intercooler ducts. It's to cool charge air to run more boost.

The fact that an older 997 is hanging with a Bugatti is a beautiful sight. Stop criticizing the guy throwing ice into the intercoolers. Old technology=old methods of making sure a car runs and keeps throwing down 1,600 hp. The Bugatti is new, and new cars don't need quite as much maintenance to maintain power and reduce heat.

Difference here, Porsche is going to need a rebuild in a few runs. But....I always love to see the Porsche win. Beautiful. Sounds great at idle, turbo pops sounds ick, but whatever it takes.

It's a 1000 m runway. In the bugatti 0-400-0 video they reach around 305 kph in that distance. This was a rolling start race and they reached ~320 so where did he play around?

Trying to remember which journalist it was, but when he drove a 1200hp 997TT, he said it shifted to the left several feet with each gear change. Amazing what that kind of raw power can do.
Whats amazing about the Bugatti is that all that Power is effortless and you are still driving in comfort and style. Its usable power, that car can be driven by any grandma. You cant get that anywhere else. Ofcourse take a Porsche take everything out and tune the engine to a level that will make it croak after a few thousand miles and its going to beat a Chiron.

Looks like the Porsche 977 needs more ice to beat a finely tuned Chiron. The shifting and backfiring was terrible. The Bugatti is so smooth through the gears. Some times you actually get what you pay for.
