Loki is a good character in this movie because he surprises you. He's a good guy, no wait he's manipulative, no he's good, oh no he's evil, hold on he's good, oh never mind he's bad, wait what? Definitely not a one-dimensional character.

    - In "Iron Man 2", Agent Coulson said that he had to leave because there was a "situation" in the Southwest Sector, and the credits scene shows him getting out of his SUV at the crater.
    - there are 2 short films that go with "Iron Man 2" and "Thor": "Marvel One-Shot #1: A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor's Hammer", and "Marvel One-Shot #2: The Consultant".

That reminded me of a stand-up bit from Brian Regan, about boxes of Pop Tarts having microwave directions: 3 seconds. "I wanna meet the guy who has this tight a schedule"
*hits alarm clock, jumps up, shoves pop tart in mouth and yells "Holy cow, I gotta get outta here!!" as pieces fly out of his mouth*

“You must finish what you started… because you’re right!” Chills is the correct response to that. A story where the hero doesn’t need to save the girl, just validate her life’s work. Man, I love this movie.

Loki is a complicated character. In actual Norse mythology, he is a shape-shifter who sometimes assists the other gods, and sometimes sabotages them, and it's always difficult or even impossible to figure out what his motives are.
In the MCU, they use that chaotic nature as a way to make him a conflicted character, at his core wanting to do what's right, but then being overcome with jealousy and greed. Also, in the MCU, he is a shape-shifter as well as being a multiplier.

Loki wanted to destroy Jotunheim as a great military victory, yes, but also: So long as the people of Jotunheim still lived, there was a chance for them or others to discover that Loki was a Frost Giant once; so Loki wanted to erase that part of himself, just like he erased his biological father, Laufey. By all this, he could make sure his secret origin was never discovered and that no one could call him illegitimate for the throne of Asgard. Loki’s plans are alway complicated and multi-layered.

The Marvel Asgardians are based on real Norse mythology, implying that the myths are real due to Asgardians protecting Earth and being seen as gods by the Vikings.
In the actual lore, Loki, the god of Mischief, is Thor's uncle, and Sif is Thor's wife, who has blonde hair. Loki shaves her bald as a prank, and Thor was so enraged that he threatened to beat Loki to a pulp. Loki swore he would make it right and had the Dvergr (dwarves) craft her a wig of spun gold, and also gifted Thor with 3 powerful artifacts so as to escape his ire: Megingjordr, the belt of giant strength; Jarngreipr, the steel gauntlets of might; and Mjolnir the Mullicrusher, a hammer of great power that would return to Thor's hand when thrown (he needed the gauntlets to be able to do so). The hammer was flawed, however; a mistake during it's forging saw the handle get shortened significantly so it couldn't be wielded with both hands, lessening its strength.
Thor is boisterous, boastful, and has a great love of killing giants. He is called the Thunder God because the Vikings thought that thunderclaps during storms were the sound of Mjolnir striking Thor's enemies, protecting the people of Midgard (Earth). They also believed that rainbows were a bridge to the realm of the gods; the Bifrost, the Rainbow Bridge that is guarded by the all-seeing Heimdallr, keeper of the Gjallarhorn which will be blown to signal the coming of Ragnarok, the end of the world.
My favorite myth is that of the Valkyrie Bride, where Mjolnir was stolen by the Jotun king Thrymr, in order to extort the Aesir (the gods) into giving him Freya, Queen of the Valkyries, as his bride. Loki came up with a plan to dress Thor up in a wedding dress and veil, and pretend to be Freya so they could get into the giant stronghold and take back the hammer, and it worked :D There's a Thor skin in the game Smite dedicated to this myth and it's amazing :)

Comics has a long history of using old myths as a base for characters. Ether mortals gaining the powers of a god or gods, the next generation of gods, super beings that became the bases of the myths or the gods themselves returning.

Some of the very first comics were classic myths and legends. So there were Thor comics and Hercules comics and King Arthur comics. That how Thor ended up in the Avengers.
If you ever make it to DC movies, Wonder Woman will have many characters you are aware of from Greek mythology.

Marvel and DC comics both way back looked to the classical Gods and Demigods and added them to their stories. You will find a lot of the Greek Gods in DC where the Norse Gods are in Marvel. Part of the thing about being Gods as well is they are almost immortal and cannot die, but Marvel has in many ways pissed all over Thor starting with Avengers. My read on it is the makers hate everything about Thor because hes a hyper masculine male. Everything about Thor in the comics and in our actual mythos has him thus. Hes a Barbarian God, and modern Hollywood has lionized the weak beta male and has been replacing all strong men with strong women but these women are not the Heroine archetype, like WonderWoman, they are the Phalic woman archetype, where women do and act just as a strong man would.

@@TaraTunesIn The problem is that in these situations we can talk all we want when we have hindsight, but what are adoptive parents supposed to do in that moment?... Although this is presented in that overexaggerated superhero fictional word, this is a fairly common issue and question when it comes to adoptive parents and there isn't one straight answer for everybody... Can you said that Loki wouldn't have reacted worse and done the same things, probably even sooner, if he was told from the beginning that he was adopted and that the throne was always going to be out of his reach? Can you really make that call in that moment? Like I said, hindsight is wonderful; but in that moment, Odin and Frigga considered that telling him about his true parentage would put him in danger of being treated differently by others and that he would view himself differently... There is danger in that... Yeah, there is a chance that he could've handled it and learned to make peace with it and all would be better now; but there is also a chance that things would've turned out just the same, or worse
Let's not forget, Loki did all of these shenanigans with the Frost Giants BEFORE even finding out that he was one, BEFORE finding out that he was adopted and that the king of the giants is indeed his father... I can easily imagine a situation where Odin and Frigga, like many people suggest, tell Loki early on in his life about his true parentage and that he will never be in the run for the throne... And then Loki just quite simply seeks out his true father, grows closer to him and starts plotting, really plotting, to overthrow Odin and Thor and all of Asgard; under Laufy's corruption or Loki's own desires.
