I know a lot of people were disappointed with the Trevor/Mandarin twist, but for me Sir Ben Kingsley's performance is one of the standout moments of this movie.
This one takes a bunch of crap but I liked it a lot. I think the problem is that people expect more and more from every Marvel movie, and with this coming right after The Avengers, they were disappointed about a smaller story. I did hear the line.. and said “how?!” Because he doesn’t elaborate.. that’s in the full length reaction on Patreon.. but I didn’t know whether he meant that he completely eliminated it, or if he just like… calmed her down.. they breezed by it too quickly imo
@Tara Tunes In how? He's Tony Stark. He's the smartest man in the MCU. Also the reason Maya wanted his help was because she knew he could solve the problems with her formula. If you go back the opening, he fixed her equation in the note he left her.
that moment when you have 40 autonomous iron man guards that could be protecting your place after you threaten a terrorist but instead you let a helicopter from the 80s fuck your shit all up.
This one was a bit divisive because it isn't really an Iron Man movie. It's a Shane Black movie featuring Tony Stark. Also the Mandarin is like Iron Man's Joker. He's his primary nemesis in the comics. So this version disappointed many fans. Personally I love Shane Black so this was right up my alley. And I don't need exact beat for beat adaptations from the comics.
Ohhh gotcha! Since I know nothing about the comics, how these films do or do not stay true to them is kind of irrelevant to me hahah I enjoyed the Mandarin story line :)
@Tara Tunes In the Mandarin in the comics is pretty much the character Trevor was pretending to be. But he was created in the 1960s, so he exhibits tropes some find racist... But as a comic book reader, I like to be surprised. So I like some departures from the source material.

The Avengers aren't assembled for everything, because under their paygrade, doing their own stuff, potentially not aware. Think of it like calling the police after a serial killer has broken into your house. They're not just gonna spawn there, so you gotta find a way to deal with it for the time. Also, not their movie and a bit pointless to pay that many big actors. I hate giving meta answers, so ignore this one if you want.
Yeaaaaah I obviously do get that like… the film makers had reasons for not making every film an avengers film I was just saying like… in the fictional marvel world… what made the Loki/New York problem so special, but the following equally world-threatening events (iron man 3 and especially in Thor Dark World) not serious enough to assemble them..

Yay! The Marvel movie I caused a mistake it all by myself that no one else cares about or notices! When this came out I was working at the E! Channel working with graphics. Just before the movie came out they redesigned the E! bug in the lower right corner. They made it all black. Worked hard getting it on air only for the bosses to immediately realize the black bug wasn't very visible if the video behind it was dark. That bug was on sir less than a day before they had me replace it with an ivory colored bug. Iron Man 3 has a scene with Joan Rivers on E! They used the black bug in the scene to match what was supposed to be on air when the movie would come out. Only, lol, I switched it to ivory. So either it's a mistake or that scene in the movie with Joan Rivers happened in a very specific period of time when that bug was in use for around 18 hours.
Weird seeing in the theater because I saw the wrong bug on screen and for me it was a big deal as I also realized, lol, I was the only person it was important at all too. 😂
