this is definitely the peak of my career so far. it's been the best year of my life - with my partner, my first home, the biggest product launch ever, and my own creative pursuits. it's not without the blood, sweat, and tears, so hope you enjoy going on the journey with me! I think I have one more big work thing left in the near future, but i'll be taking it easy after that. can't ignore rest!

@@tinalouisechenAbsolutely. If you don’t have a good team, no private company is good to work for. A government job is 1000 times superior to a private sector job in the absence of a good team. Moreover, the Manager has to be a people person otherwise the criticism about government job of excess concentration of power in one person will be applicable in private companies also. Team matters a lot.

This is amazing to see! I didn't think running events, being a public face for the product, and meeting with users would be part of the Product Manager role, but I have some experience with this as a conference director and I love it!
ah it's not normally part of the role actually. my product marketing manager left and we had a big re-org, so i had to step in for the role.
meeting with users is definitely part of it. being a public face depends on the company - i think airbnb is shifting towards having their PMs be way more public facing whereas it doesn't quite matter that much in many other consumer tech products esp if you're not VP level

As a PM I find your videos so relatable even though we're from different countries, i'm shocked by the similarities lol Also, sometimes we get lost at the day-to-day chaos and forget to cherish this little moments when we see our hard work pay off, so is nice to see you being so happy about this big launch. For me, being able to create a safe space with my team and finding ways to deal with difficult stakeholders are the most important (and difficult) parts of the job imo. Can you maybe share your experience with this topics in another vlog?

Congratulations on the launch, Chloe! I imagine that making slide decks like the one in 5:02 is second nature, now, so do you have a go-to app/service for making them?
i mostly just do google slides and i find a template that the company already has or a template on canva or adobe express or slidesgo. i'm actually trying to be way more design-oriented. like it's not just a basic template but it looks like it's very much designed by a true designer. i'm currently curating all my design resources, but it's slow since i'm not a designer haha.
hope i can build my design skills throughout this next year! it's one of my new goals!
Designing presentation templates is definitely an art form. I wonder how many/often PMs create their own presentations from scratch? 😮
Congrats on the product launch and the new house! I was wondering if you think a project manager can transition over to being a product manager? I've been interested in changing PM roles from being a project manager to a product manager!
yes i do! but also project mgmt is v different from product mgmt. product mgmt is very specific to product development. there are definitely transferrable skills, but it's always actually best to work on shipping a product with an eng team first. is there any internal opportunity at your current company to do so?

oof honestly this is just a habit i've had since taking notes in college. i'm an insane note-taker and i cannot remember anything aftwards. i always have to reference my notes. that made me learn to type really fast!

Omg how clearly i see it now...30 years back all techies themselves invented blockbuster products like google search fb etc. Imagine they giving up control to hired mba to drive product direction. As a young product manager i never understood this major contentitious issue back then. Now its clear as day light and so many fights could have avoided if i treated the geeks with more respect. I also wish the geeks could listen better to the pm. How they fail to get the big picture is stunning to my comprhension beyond words.
