      Good idea Rich. Because of the positioning of it, in front of the nearside rear wheel its a good one to catch before it starts to leak badly for obvious reasons!

    Thanks for making this video, my oil cooler is leaking right now and I hope this fixes it! Just a wild fact for you in the US, I was quoted $1,740 for the oil cooler alone from a local audi shop. Checked online and found it for $875.
    Question for you, did you see any issue with your oil cooler lines? I see those can go bad as well.
    Thanks!

    Great video.
    1. I'd like to know what prompted this fix. Was it because of noticeably higher oil temperatures and/or oil seepage onto the ground?
    2. I've read in R8Talk that it's possible to retrofit the V10 air type oil cooler (not a heat exchanger type) into the V8. This oil cooler will be repurposed as a coolant cooler. It will be fed by the coolant line that feeds the oem heat exchanger. Then the cooled coolant will be reintroduced back to the heat exchanger's coolant input connection. Your thoughts?

      Thanks for the comment!
      1. Oil seepage on the ground. I've never heard of it causing noticeably higher temps.
      2. It's certainly do-able but other than corrosion and starting to leak after a long period of time (~10 years) I'm not sure it'd be worth all the extra effort to be quite honest!

    I'm looking at offerings from makers like Nissens and AKS Dasis, they are charging less than 200€ for a cooler. I wonder if there's a difference.. My dealer quoted me for 600€ for a oil cooler but I bought a Nissens for it. I think Nissens makes OEM stuff for Aston Martin and Lambo..

    Hi, would you know of any issues with the quattro system? Also would you say these v8 2007-8s have bottomed out price wise. I know its all mileage related with prices at the moment for the early ones with seeing stuff between £30-46k for low to 70k ish miles...but in your opinion have you seen them go below £30k or do you think they have reached the minimum depreciation values for the mk1? All opinion but I'd like to hear yours...looking to buy one and maintain myself so your vids are inspiring me to take the plunge.

    • @ScottishCarClan
      @ScottishCarClan  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No issues with the quattro system as such however front differentials were a (relative) weak point. They were shared with the LP560. It's puzzled mechanics for years why some fail and why some don't - my own theory is that a car that's been doing dyno runs over stresses the front diff.

    I have the part on order. It's out of stock nationwide here in the states. At 2:46, you are clamping the hose to limit the coolant spillage? Also, no need to fully drain the oil in this process, yes?

    • @ScottishCarClan
      @ScottishCarClan  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes just to minimise coolant loss. No need to fully drain your oil no. Just remember to top up both the oil and coolant at the end!

      @@ScottishCarClan Thanks! I'm curious if it's just the o-rings or gasket between the cooler portion and the base/bracket that can be replaced. That seems to be where the leak occurs. Did you guys ever figure that out?

      Oil leak in front of the nearside rear wheel! If its dripping its leaking badly (like mind was). Pop your hand under the sill and see if the plastic is oily.

    Love your outrage, I spent more than that on a CF spoiler on my car lol. Question for you, what are the rough speeds you'd be going at redline of 1st and 2nd gear? Still doing man maths on V8 Vs V10!

    • @ScottishCarClan
      @ScottishCarClan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Now a CF splitter I have no qualms dropping some coin on but a 45 minute job for £250!? Yes outrage is the word :-) 41mph in first and 66mph in second Peter. The gearing helps make the most of the V8. The Gallardo you may have seen on the channel has a great engine but the gearing is 62mph in first and 84mph in second!

    I have oil in my r8 V10 2014 coolant resivour. Could it be an issue with the oil cooler?

      Possibly! It would really need looking at to properly determine how its mixing.
