    R8 isn't made for true racing. It's an incredible classic design (the 1st gen) that would never get old, somewhat affordable, comfortable and can be used as a daily driver. I would forgive that "aerodynamic issue" which is most likely irrelevant to R8's performance.

    Nice to see a few different things then the norm!
    Things I hate on mine:
    1, cup holders 🤬
    2: stereo, (upgraded mine)
    3: exhaust, (will be upgraded soon, but as a mean time, disconnecting the valves make a big difference)
    4: standard seats., they’re out TT ffs, I’ve changed mine to buckets
    5: the sill plates, they just seem to corrode like mad!

    I watched as a R8 owner also to compare to your assessment.. I'm ok with the steering and I can compare to other sports cars I've owned and driven- I would say it has good feedback... When you say isn't accurate, I'd say its not overpowered to where you don't have any feel for what's going on.. Magnetic shocks- I'm at that point now, which is what has me searching to see what other have done. AWD- is great for people who think they can drive handling wise... it makes it very forgiving and you can out handle those rear wheelers... Aero dynamics- you compare to a GTR? super efficient? have you not seen the GTR flipping on the nuerburgring? if it was born in wind tunnel, it was an abortion attempt.. I've driven both cars, and IF you dare take off the traction control on a GTR, it's a death wish... I DO love the V8... I've gotten it up to 180mph, it was still pulling but I ran out of the minerals... I got in at a good price point compared the a V10.. I even have a spare engine on the cheap for 10k...

  • @flat6croc
    @flat6croc 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Re the coil overs, this is a rear-biased car, weight wise, so the rear springs are always going to be higher rate than the fronts. You absolutely could not run an R8 with firmer front springs than rear. So BC have it correct. As you would expect. Unlikely to make a mistake that basic.

    • @ScottishCarClan
      @ScottishCarClan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! Thanks for the comment. It’s an interesting one as BC are the only manufacturer to have firmer on the rear. 99% of manufacturers have it reversed for the r8 … KW, ohlins etc.

    • @flat6croc
      @flat6croc 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ScottishCarClan That just can't be true. R8 must have more weight over the rear axle and you'll always have a higher spring rate to control higher mass. If you look at spring rates on 911s, for instance, which are very rear biased for weight, the rear spring rate is often double the front spring rate. On Boxsters and Caymans, less so, but rear rate is higher. On front engine BMWs, the opposite because the weight balance is opposite. The only exception would be a consequence of geometry that alters the effective spring rate and could mean that on the R8 while the rate of the springs themselves are lower on the rear, the geometry is such that the effective rate is higher.

    Easy and not expensive to remove quattro... I've thought about it, but I'm happy with it as it is and I think the steering feel is just fine. Coilovers are cheap and easy to do. Agree on exhaust, again, easy fix and sounds glorious with a good exhaust.

    I didn't know the aerodynamic bits were just for show. I learned something new. Thank you for that. And yes I dream of owning an R8 one day, but looking at where the future is going, I really would have to convert it to an electric engine. I guess even without the engine, the car is special to me and I hope I get to own one myself.

  • @sonnypatel3577
    @sonnypatel3577 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I prefer the V8 actually, and only because the V10 has an uneven firing order and doesn’t sound as multi dimensional as the initial Gallardo V10. The V10 sounds lazy whereas the V8 is eager sounding.
    A V10 should sound like a Carrera GT or Lexus LFA. The E60 M5 gets a pass because it’s a V10 in a saloon car and that’s just cool.

  • @muriellealamelama1310

    Im currently considering buying this marvel and that’s why im here bro 😀 Now question is ’Is the V8 powerful enough to skip a fantastic V10’ ?
    Not a single Word from you ’bout its transmission. We all know the manual gearbox is superb but is the Rtronic that bad ? Btw great vid and great accent 😉

    • @ScottishCarClan
      @ScottishCarClan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s not bad if you go in with managed expectations! Those coming from a dual clutch will find it clunky and slow by comparison and I think that’s where it gets a bad wrap from. Go in mindful that it’s a robotised manual and actually… you’ll probably enjoy the quirkiness of it.
