The one thing I always loved about Godzilla 2014 was the way Gareth Edwards filmed the monsters from a human perspective, it made Godzilla and the Mutos feel gigantic and I would really like to see them do more like this in future films
Agree. Don’t get me wrong, I do love all the monster fights in any Monsterverse film, but recently, it feels like watching human-sized creatures brawl, like you saw in nature documentaries.

godzilla king of the monsters was also like that. king of the monsters was a super great movie.

Look at all the little details like when godzilla roars his face and nostrils jiggle and pulse gotta loves those little details and the scale is just as I remember, COLOSSAL!!!
KOTM has more expression though. But this is still nice.
@@Bowser64798 thanks for the nice little detail also how's the mushroom kingdom, Mario still giving you trouble?
Another thing i wanted to point is you can hear the monsters in the background while they move off screen mostly and it doesn't feel like they came out of nowhere for convenience; when godzilla in kotm just so happen to pop up and save Madison last second ,that felt too convenient for me. And godzilla did do that in this movie as well when he saved Ford from the muto but he was already in close range and the Muto wasn't preparing a attack unlike ghidorah so it didn't feel too convenient then.
@Churro Ninja oh, there's a lot of expression in the film from all four of the main Titan's. Like Rodan's chuckle followed by a smile before he does his mid air spin in the jet scene. Godzilla's shocked face when Ghidorah bites onto the power cable, Etc. But my favorite is Godzilla's evil looking smile when he's killing Ghidorah in his burning form.
@@APPReCTEd Ooooh yeah, and don’t forget methuselah’s smile when he starts rising up and he hears the call.
Oh the movie was actually really bright all the time, my friend saw this in theaters, its just that blu-ray fucked it up.
Yeah. Basically you know the people in charge of the transferring process for home video? They got a 3-D version of this, de converted it, and completely forgot to brighten it back up, since post 3D conversion brightens pictures and they darken them to prevent it from being to bright, though sometimes the people in charge of that forget. Hence why some people get headaches or migraines at 3D movies.
I know right
it wasn't bright at amstar
AAAAND DVD
Plus they seems to have edited the Chinatown roar by having the camera switch to ford for a second as he looks up at Godzilla, when,in the theater, it just stayed on Godzilla and it had diffferent music and it was overall much more suspenseful and epic
Gareth Edwards had such a strong understanding of the size and scale of these creatures. If only the screenwriting matched the direction
Even though this is my top favorite monsterverse movie, I heavily agree, I feel like they should’ve not killed off Bryan Cranston and had his character be more important because he wasn’t one dimensional, he wasn’t flat, he was actually interesting to listen to, I literally cannot think of a reason of why they killed his character
@@t.c.g.thecentregod2809 every day I think of that alternate universe that kept Cranston and had one of the best movies ever.
killing Cranston is my only gripe with the movie. I liked the screenwriting how they paced out the suspense like an old creature feature like Jaws or something.. wait til the end to fully reveal the monster!
The Humans made a distraction, to save Godzilla.

Sounds like a sonic boom
@@Symbiotian It's true, although they recreate the same thing with King Ghidorah, visually it doesn't feel as impressive as here...
This kind of impact is missing from the last 2 movies... I don't care that they are officially bigger, they just don't feel as big as they do here, they shouldn't have abandoned this direction.
Imagine the strength that Muto has to have to stay aloft being that size. The wings would be putting off hurricane-level winds.

I.... CAN.... SEE!!! But seriously though, this is really cool to see the fight all bright like this and this honestly is my second favorite final battle in the Monsterverse.
What’s the first?
@@burningfury4065 Don't hate me for this but it is Kong Skull Island's. Mainly because the fight takes place in the daytime and you can actually see what's happening. Not to say that I didn't see what was going on in the fights for Godzilla 2014 or Godzilla King of the Monsters, in theaters anyway, I'm just sick and tired of seeing Godzilla either at night or stormy weather fighting. Also, Kong's fight doesn't cut away to humans doing nothing important to monster battle or just looking every 5 seconds. The fnal battle in Kong Skull Island is just much more entertaining to sit through and watch, I'm not dissing G2014 and KOTM though because those battles are cool but they lack the spark.

@@burningfury4065 Me too. 😊
@@treyrex5987 KOTM isn't really a fight though, It's like a drama show with Monster's. The ToHo monsters show lot's of emotion when they fight each other. And my favorite is when Godzilla smiles at Ghidorah after does the first pulse when he is in his burning form. Even after Ghidorah got charged up, him and Godzilla just stood there and looked at each other for like 2 minutes straight. Imagine what they were saying. 2014 and Skull Island is just Animals fighting for survival. KOTM is CHARACTERS, colliding.

This right here is what the subtle difference to me has been from Gareth Edward's Godzilla to the new much more action focused movies. This shot here gives a sense of how truly massive the MUTO is, and many other shots, aside from being astounding like the descent into San Francisco, also use this method of using objects that everyone knows the size of like humans or cars in the foreground to give a sense of scale to the massive creatures on a 2D screen. Bravo Gareth.
Yes, I absolutely agree. while I love the other movies in the franchise, this one is hands down the best directed. From the way Godzilla is constantly hyped up at the Airport Battle to the little (pardon the pun) details like this- I just hope that the monster verse returns to this style and tone. It felt so much more real and, tbh, kind of terrifying bc the human characters were always at the mercy of the monsters, always reacting. KOTM and to an extent GVK felt a bit like Marvel movies. Skull Island is a great movie as well, but I don’t think it really fits into either camp. Love this movie
@@Glitch_visions Thanks! The first Godzilla in this series gave me chills in the theaters back in 2014 and I haven't gotten them for any of the others since
Ouch god bless your heart with that take. Way too dark, cut away from numerous action scenes just as there about to start killing all the hype and tension he built up, 10 minutes of Godzilla screentime in a 2 hour movie. This was by far the worst in the series and thankfully the director of Kong skull island showed how it should be done. King of the monsters was the most underrated of the group and showed how a Godzilla film should be done. Much more action, better villains in king ghirorah and Rodan, didn't cut away from the action and even though still kinda dark it got better than this movie. Godzilla vs Kong was the best and I'm really happy they went with a more competent director that understood the source material much more and knew what the fans wanted.
Yep. I remember feeling weirdly alienated by Godzilla KOTM when it came out, and when I went and re-watched this movie it became clear why. Edwards' tendency to depict monsters as being actual habitual animals is what set this apart from the majority of Godzilla movies and KOTM kinda just jettisoned that for cheap nostalgia bait.
I love the slower battle style of Godzilla and the MUTO in this movie over the faster paced fighting in KOTM and even GvK. It really allows the viewers to admire each shot and movement on screen and makes it seem as if the battle is lasting longer. Not saying I disliked the monster fights in KOTM and GvK, I loved those. But in Godzilla 2014, it is visually more rewarding. Especially with the enhanced brightness in the newer re-releases of the Blu-Ray discs.

I still think 2014 had the best fights of the new Zilla films. They did such a great job with scale, mass, and movement of these colossal beasts. Much of it was lost in KotM and GvK, where the monsters all moved like they were a fraction of their actual size.
Yup, Gareth Edwards understood the scale of the monsters and that’s why I like this movie.

this is better than starring at a dark screen hearing roars and growls and takedowns from godzilla and the mutos.
Yeah. 😂😂
Muto’s”wait what is he doing” “Godzilla literally obliterates them, well I guess my job here is done” I love you Godzilla.
Hey whats with that picture bro just wondering
KOTM looks pathetic compared to this. It was good, but this is beautiful
Preach brother
2014 is technically the better movie. visually, cinematography, pacing, editing and cgi is far superior, That isn’t to say kotm doesn’t have good shots or visuals though.
The one who Is Many 🙏
Otaku rex dame opinion here!
KaijusaurusG2K 👍
Why dose it look so a billion times better than in the cinema?! That looks amazing.
10 years and this aged so well. That slow reveal into a stand off had my theater losing it
I can’t help but feel bad for momma muto when she starts crying out to the nest, and even papa Muto, abandoning its attack of Godzilla when it hears the female
But if we feel bad towards them.. they will overrun the world that of course will kill humanity
Now that the breakfast is overcooked.
@@Jogyot3260 yeah, all we can do is F to pay respects
F
1:43 love this sound
The dragon head being submerged in gas was to me a foreshadowing of Godzilla's atomic breath showcase later on...
If you think about it actually.
The way the female muto runs is so ape/Animalistic I love it
*Most people in the comment section:* "Wow! This looks so much better than the standard version!"
*Me:* "Oh yeah, Elizabeth Olsen was in this."
They didn't allow me to use a gun in that movie >:(
Don't worry. You'll get em next time. 😊
According to Sayaka (Spoilers, don’t read if you Dont want spoilers)
you will 😉
Wait, how you get a gun
@@yansbadass9887 fanboys gave me too much power
Imagine godzilla charging the mutos with an m16
1:12 satisfying as hell. They had a sense of weight here that I feel was missing from the movies going forward
Godzilla 2014 best cinematic for me
KOTM is the best, well balance movie
the bright light is beautiful they should have this in every kaiju movie
THEN : this darkest city and slow movement giant monster
NOW : kong throwing suko
The fanbase ruined mv tbh it was realistic when it was dark and very silent but literally they complained them to make the next movie brighter
Honestly, the 2014 design is my fav out of the legendary films
Wow, I wish the movie had this much brightness too
Kinda sad that so much detail was put into this fight, only for you to not see any of it
Yeah.
Nah in theaters you could easily see it. They fucked the transition to blue ray up by forgetting to re-brighten everything before sending it out
@@samwallace6708 I get that they worked hard and that they didn't mean to make that mistake, but it was still a pretty clumsy mix-up.
The way Godzilla whips his tale through the smoke was bad ass!
Thanks for sharing this!
I love how Godzilla just grabs the Muto with one hand like "nope" then bites him on the other side lol.
Lol
