    Here it was called Glipizide and it came with a version of Metformin as a combo drug. Taking this combo drug gave me about a 40% chance of hypoglycemia. At the time I didn't realize why it happened until I looked up what Glipizide did.

    It can be very difficult to know which medication will help and not cause other problems. All medications have some form of side effects, so it's important to minimise the side effects and keep taking the medication that will give you the most benefit. Before making any changes to your medication, it is so important to seek advice as advised above. Great video and honest.

    Doesn’t dosage determine the risk of heart damage? What if you are taking the lowest dose?

    I was diagnosed 2 weeks ago type 2. Emergency visit because I wasn't feeling well. My blood sugars were 25.5! Fear for ketoacidosis. I had no idea i was diabetic until this. Now i'm on metformin and gliclazide and i'm scared to death. I did completely revamp my diet and make sure to get my walks in. If anything i'm slightly underweight. Docs say I need carbs. 50ish grams per meal and more for snacks. It's all so confusing. I just want the right info. Whatever it is, I'll do it.

    Hi Mary I have just watched your video on youtube I’m actually on gliclazide ,metformin, pioglitazone and sitagliptin . I know gliclazide as you say give you a kick up the bum to make insulin and metformin controls it. I believe the other two I take work similar to gliclazide.i also take simvastatin a night for my cholesterol. I have had enough of doctors trying to get me to take more medication that’s why I joined your group to hopefully turn things around.

      Esma, you are doing great. As you make the changes to your diet you'll be able to adjust your medications and maybe even stop them (that's the plan!) I'm here if you have any questions. Mx

    Thanks for the information. I have administered this drug a month ago but it has greatly disturbed my BP. I sweat at 4:00am and become too cold, feel so hungry and shaky. Can I stop taking this medication immediately and go back to the herbal and natural ways?

    I can only wonder what good, government and doctors are?! Do they only see what is in their books for which is the cheapest medicine? to use and what will make them the most profit.

      It's how they've been trained, unfortunately, handing out a pill is easier than supporting someone to change their lifestyle :(. Mx

    If your beta cells are dying in the pancreas because they're overworked why would the drs give you a medication that makes your pancreas to work harder. Insulin injections give your body a rest.

      Too much Insulin in the blood hardens the arteries in the heart. That can lead to a heart attack/death.

    I'm confused I've taken Metformin for years then was put on glicizide my blood sugars didn't come down so they doubled my dose so now I'm on the highest dose but my blood sugars continued to shoot up, my diet hasn't changed apart from i did go through a time of eating chicken and veg so I'm blaming this medication for it, has it happened to anyone else? The other day i woke up at 15 i had breakfast forgot to take my medicine couple of hours later i got home checked i was 13.7 i then took my medicine checked half an hour later it actually went up to 19! I know all those numbers are terrible but like i said the last six months my blood sugars have been shooting up a alot. So i skipped the glicizide yesterday and i think my numbers were lower then they have been normally. I don't want to go against doctors advice but i just don't think my body is agreeing with this med.

    I was just put on Gliclazide, because when I took Metformin I had a shocking headache and my heart seems to beat oddly and fast when I'm sleeping for some reason, I was only on Metformin for 3 nights, it wasn't the slow release, anyhow I'm not happy about this new drug, I can not understand why it needs to force my pancreas to produce more insulin, I'm supposed to be type 2 surely my pancreas is producing insulin anyway, nothing makes sense and I do not like the idea of the risk of blood sugars dropping all of a sudden, makes you worry to much and I sure don't like the idea of having to stuff sugar into my mouth to rectify a low, as I do not eat fructose because I have fatty liver as it is, so it's like going to wreck my liver if I got to do that.

      Hi Michaela, it is definitely confusing! Metformin does help treat the underlying condition, which isn't diabetes. Type 2 diabetes means you are insulin resistant. Your body is ignoring insulin and your bodies way around that is to produce more. This is why they give you medications to get you to produce more insulin. I agree, the last thing you want to do is to have to eat more sugar to keep your sugars up! I got loads of videos that will help, I've just finished a free 30 day course that will walk you through the simple steps and covers fatty liver disease :) Maryx

    All my doc wants to do is push meds. I was told that I had type 2 some years back , not really following a diet to reduce blood sugar , but didn’t really know much about diabetes. Fast forward to now, I stopped taking metformin because I read a peer review that it causes heart problems and is cariogenic.. So I stopped . The meds caused bad stomach, shaking and just a general feeling of shaking and feeling cold . I have been ill through stress and not continuing with daily exercise , but was losing weight . I was poorly. Blood sugars 12 highest. I turned vegetarian about 9 months ago through my own choice as not to eat flesh and because of the way they are mass farmed, I live in a city so sourced meat is way out of my way . I cook all my own veg meals from fresh, which is a good thing yes? I researched the good foods for diabetes and legumes were up there , so eat a lot of them . Greens and wheat grain bread. I juice with berries and lemon, but am I doing the right thing? I can’t eat fried bacon as you say , so how do I control? I thought I had taken measures to help myself . I now workout 20 -40 mins three four times a week, when I can . Cut a long story short , the doc prescribed me gliclazide but it’s just sitting in the med cupboard, I’m scared to take them. I’m so confused as I can’t eat meat anymore, just the thought. What can I do that I’m not dong right now. Thanks Good vid by the way

      Not all legumes are good. Try soy, black eye beans . They are the best. Only about 20g carbs.

      My mother sugar lever drop from 22 to 9..without gliclazide...but doctor still give my mother gliclazide...should my mother take it?or should my mother just keep the healthy lifestyle?

    • @Freefromtype2
      @Freefromtype2  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@eeva6916 That's a great drop, continuing the lifestyle changes that dropped her sugars makes sense. Metformin is protective for diabetics and does treat the underlying cause of diabetes. Glicalizide will drop blood sugars - BUT - it does it by forcing you to produce more insulin. Insulin resistance is what causes diabetes. The medication means that diabetes definitely progresses. It would be like taking pain relief for a broken leg so it feels better, but not fixing the broken bone. I don't know your mother's history, so can't make any specific recommendations on medications.Mx
