To be fair US cops do have to go out on patrol knowing the fact that anyone they run into could have a gun and use it, whether they are in a big city or small country town. I know it doesn't happen to most cops and most will do their whole career without firing a shot but there are good reasons why US cops can't do and act certain ways (like chill) most of the time that other cops in places like the UK or Canada or Australia say can do and get away with. There are literally gang members in US cities who make a deliberate point of shooting and ambushing cops on sight and wouldn't think too much of firing a 30 round magazine from a rifle into the side of a cop car in the 'ghetto'. That sort of thing very rarely happens in other Western country's.
good news, 4 months later A lot of new forces are adopting right care, right person, from Humberside police, including the Met in London, meaning a lot of non-violent mental health calls become ambulance service jobs.

Officers carry extendable batons and spray and an increasing number carry tazers. There's also special firearm units who are available when a weapons incident occurs
They haven't carried "truncheons" for roughly 20 years because they all carry extendable ASP batons that are much easier to carry and concealed in a holster. They also all carry spray and most now carry tasers with the plan to gradually get all frontline cops taser trained over the coming years due to the cost and training required. Whilst regular cops don't carry firearms (which i think is ridiculous in today's world) there are dedicated firearm units (usually 2-3 cops each with a pistol and carbine rifle patrolling in SUV's) that patrol alongside the regular cops and can be called upon when firearms are needed. Reality is most frontline UK cops generally want to be armed with a sidearm today but everything from politics, scaremongering public perception, funding and lengthy firearm training requirements stand in the way of that right now. Though the tide is gradually changing, hence such as why more cops are getting tasers now alongside batons and pepper spray to help them out. Though of course a taser will never compare with a sidearm it's still better than nothing.

Bull. In most situations women tend to deescalate the tension and emotions whilst male officers very often do the opposite. What is more, many men under influence try to stand up to a male policeman, act cocky. Here with Laura's calm voice and presence it's the last thing they would do (proven by the case with the guy with a panic attack). And then you also had the two policewomen skillfully arrest the violent guy who's just assaulted his female partner. You're watching it but you choose not to see it as it does not match your hypothesis.
All the replies so far are quite dumb so i'll explain a bit more. Basically when the first UK police forces were formed in the early 1800's they wanted to make the public feel like cops were just members of the public like them with certain policing powers invested in them to help the public and keep the peace. They did not want the new police to look or act the same as the British army who maintained law and order before police forces were formed and who did so carrying their guns and using brute force a lot of the time. One of the conditions to this was that all cops would not carry guns on routine patrol and instead guns would be kept in gun safes in every police station where they could be drawn if needed. In civil peaceful Britain of the 1800's this worked mostly well. This concept pretty much continued into the 1900's up until the last few decades however due to terrorism and more armed/violent criminals about today they decided about 30 years ago in order to bridge the gap as such the police would create "armed response units" which are basically mobile mini swat type teams made up of 2-3 cops carrying a sidearm and carbine who go out on patrol in specially adapted SUV's and respond to all weapon and terrorism calls alongside the other regular non-armed cops to back them up with a firearms capability. The main reasons why most cops still don't carry firearm is down to many things including: lack of funding to train each officer, the length of firearm training and minimum scoring needed for each officer, spineless police chiefs sat behind desks being scared "militarize" their cops by giving them simple sidearms and still thinking we are in like 1955, scaremongering public perception and outcry (the type of scared uneducated people who think if every cop carried a gun the UK would turn into the wild west overnight), and out of touch politicians more worried about public perception and losing votes if they dare to arm the police so officers can actually properly protect themselves and the public against armed terrorism and criminals. This is why most of the UK all just carry on with their heads in the sand wearing rose tinted glasses just relying on luck and hope that more cops haven't been murdered yet becuase they are unarmed. Like it will literally take a cop to be murdered every month before they ever consider giving them all as sidearm.
@@woodforthetrees3496 And what about France, Germany, Canada, Australia, Japan, Sweden, Netherlands, Spain etc where all cops carry sidearms but yet gun crime is lower than the US, most criminals in those places don't carry guns let alone shoot at cops, and where police shootings are rare... yet all cops carry a gun!?! Comparing any Western country to the US in terms of this argument is unrealistic due to the amount of easy access to guns and the amount of cops with highly varying training levels in the US. Still though this does not mean UK cops should not carry a sidearm as routine in the face of terrorism and violent crime which has become almost every day today. When every cop in Europe, North and South America, Australia, most of Asia and more are carrying a gun it says something about this bizarre outdated approach in the UK of most cops not carrying guns and relying on a thin spread of armed cops to back them up when something kicks off... I mean just look at the 2017 Westminster attack for example where a lone unarmed cop was stabbed to death protecting an entrance to one of the most important and high threat sites in the UK. If that cop had a simple Glock pistol on his belt then it would have ended so differently. There are so many other examples of unarmed cops getting killed or seriously injured but it would take hours to list them all.

Women have a lot to give to the police forces ......but should always work with a male partner never two women alone.....
Why? Some women could do it just fine?
Also I think women understand other women better most likely
I cannot fathom why y'all don't carry sidearms.....
American?
Why is America The Land of The Free-Dumb.
@Brian Badonde LOL,
All the replies so far are quite dumb so i'll explain a bit more.
I have a camrea I'm Recording ! 😂
