You guys are a fresh breeze among all those repetitive and monotonous YT videos. It's good to know that there are still some retro maniacs around. Thanks!
The Faceball 2000 part... was probably the funniest I have ever seen in Game Sack. Gotta love it when Joe fills his voice with attitude like that :). But how many MEGA POWER does the game have??
Another great feature that the original Megaman X has that none of the other sequels have is depending on which robot master you play first can affect another stage example play chill peguin stage first and defeat him and it will freeze flame mammoth stage, defeat storm eagle stage and his air fortress will crash into spark mandrill stage, defeat launch otcopus and it will flood sting chameleon stage as these results will make each of these stages much easier and if you collect all power ups and hearts and energy tanks you can find a special power capsule which doctor light teaches you how to fire a hadouken which is a one hit instant kill!
I scored a nice copy of Rival Turf! at Goodwill for 4 bucks a couple of months ago. Yeah, its pretty mediocre in just about ever regard. The skinny guy's standing jump kick cracks me up - his leg is completely vertical. Lots of other goodies in this episode too, especially Robo Aleste. A great game with an awesome soundtrack. Love that stage 1 music.
That bit at the end was amazing love it. That faceball bit was even greater. You guys are really making some great content thats going to stand the test of time.

I loved Kid Chameleon as a kid but it was brutal as there were so many levels and no save feature. My brothers and I would stay up all night playing and writing down all the best routes so we could skip as many levels as possible to beat it.
I miss dave in the later episodes. Dave and Joe are like peanut butter and jam and all we have now is jam sandwiches. They still good but man i miss my peanut butter
Wow, what an episode, the selection of games was really effective, even the crappy ones had a great result in the final video (wink at Faceball 2000 skit there). I love that you guys go all the way into reviewing the games and took your time to get into each one of them. I don't know how Dave got through Great Cave Offensive, I remember that being really long. Kid Chameleon isn't that famous now but magazines back in the day used to love it. Tons of great game you featured in this episode and I really loved the final skit, it was genius.
Great stuff as always! I'm not sure about sucking and swallowing monsters though :-) Oh Dave, don't worry. Chakan is a pretty bad game. You're not alone there. No doubt the Dreamcast sequel wasn't shaping up well either which is probably while the plug was pulled on it.
I didn't like Chakan either, Dave! Too frustrating. I did beat Kid Chameleon a few times though - my attention span was way longer as a teenager, apparently. I remember calling the Sega hotline on that one, because there was this one level about halfway through where I searched for hours, not able to find an exit. It turned out that it was a trap level that indeed had no exit; if you wound up there via the branching level paths, then too bad, you had to start over! Now that's harsh.
Great story! I never called a Help hotline before simply because my parents would have kicked my butt for making a long distance call. I wonder what life would have been like if we had the internet in 1991.
It would have been great in many ways, but a lot of magic would have been lost, as well. My kids were born into a world where you grow up knowing that Aeris dies. Conversely, I remember calling my best friend up and yelling, "OH MY GOD SAMUS IS A GIRL!"
ShassaMMO To be fair, I was also alive during that time and I still learned about it long before I played Metroid. While I was younger (born in '81), I either learned about it in Nintendo Power or some other publication.
I love Game Sack, I'm like a kid at Christmas waiting for a new video every week, keep it up guys! Would be cool if you could do this type of fanboy video again, maybe with N64 v Saturn or the Dreamcast v Gamecube.
Yo, just had to say ya'll show is BOSS !! . Every time i feel like buying some old school i check your channel first. Thanks for taking the time to make this show for us real talk.
Play Cousins because it is so 1 sided. Playstation destroys xbox with its games library. Mega Drive had an amazing library that made even the biggest Nintendo fanboys turn their heads and pay attention
@Heinrich the White All the cross platforms I give af about I can play. I like PS4 better because of all the cheapie Japanese ports, whether old-school or new. I had an XB1 also until xmas, just to play Forza 4. I gave it to my brother because he really struggles with money and the newest system he had was 3DS.
You guys are the best, i think yours is the only show that i can watch with my 8 year old daughter, she gets a kick outta watching, with commentary from me about the games i used to play, thanks fellas!!
Would have been really cool to see Dave play through Contra Hard Corps and Joe play through some Contra 3 Alien Wars to get some respective opinions on those. Especially since (opinion incoming) both games are extremely good for each system; both music and Gameplay wise, so it would have been nice to see if each game could still interest the other person just as much (since I'm sure Joe's already played Hard Corps and Dave's already played Alien Wars at some point anyway). Otherwise, really great episode guys; keep em coming!
I just got my first genesis last week along with Sparkster and Streets of Rage 3 and like 15 other games for 35 bucks. I just need to get the component cables and I'll be all set to play! Though I'll always be a SNES fan at heart.

Nice video, guys. Interesting idea of making you each play the others' respective console. Makes it more interesting than straight-up reviews. And I loved when Joe did the Faceball 2000 sarcastic commercial, seems like the game made him snap a bit. Looks like it'd make me have a breakdown as well.
This by far was the best episode i have ever seen from you guys. Do not get me wrong you have great episodes, but this takes the cake. Good job Dave on getting another Megaman X fan, we need more of those. Joe was hilarious with Faceball. LOL!

Hey I liked Rival Turf a lot, and by liked I mean it was the best 2 player co op fighter at the time for the SNES cuz they kinda screwed up the Final Fight port. I know its not perfect but its fun in a generic beat em up way ... and you always got that guy yelling "JALECO" on boot up. I say that still every time i see the logo on a game. I still love the show and liked what you guys did there by switching things up. keep it up, and besides Patrick Roy, u guys are the best thing to ever come outta Colorado
1) The title killed me XD 2) Joe, do yourself a favor and SKIP... ENTIRELY Mega Man X6 and X7. Mega Man X5 was supposed to be the LAST game of the series before moving on to the Mega Man Zero series on GBA. However, Capcom screwed Inafune up by milking the series. The story lost its impact in X6, although the mecanics didn't get affected that much. X7 got the balls dropped on... HARD. Capcom tried to go 3D with the series and failed miserably. Furthermore, get this, they made Mega Man X, the titular character of the series... UNLOCKABLE. Yes, you start the game as Zero and newcomer Axl and have to unlock Mega Man X, who has become all emo and depressed from the war. X8, on the other hand, nearly corrected everything X7 has done wrong: they reverted to 2D gameplay, while keeping the 3D graphics, you get to select all 3 Hunters from the start, and the intro stage rotates them to get you accustomed to their abilities, the voice acting is much better, the music is more rocking, the boss battles are more straight-forward, the stages are more linear, the secret stuff utilizes each Hunter's ability. It's the better game. On a sidenote, you should also try Mega Man X: Command Mission, a JRPG-styled game and it works great. 3) That Faceball 2000 ad was awesome!
David Molina Salazar Well, like I said, X6's gameplay works just fine. The problem with X6 is the story: Zero and X get shot and supposed to be destroyed for good at the end of X5. However in X6, X is revived and he gets to chance to find Zero who has been repairing HIMSELF during that period??? That doesn't add up.
MrJechgo Oh, come on, I love X6 but it was broken. It had a lot of blind jumps (with bottomless pits below of course) and the up+attack _downward_ slash was absolutely retarded. The story, yes, too, was flaky, and not translating the dialogs was just lazy. It does have the *absolute best* music in a Mega Man X game and it looks great, though.
SpiralPegasus I'm not saying that X6 was perfect either... the gameplay worked... most of the time, and it retained the series' major staples. The story got shafted hard, and I mean HARD. That's why it's not worth playing after X5. Same goes with X7. At least X8 was a decent recovery.
how cruel to give dave chakan first. it's so god awful that he will be a nintendo fanboy more than ever. ;) i was so deeply disappointed when i played it the first time because the music, the backgrounds, the graphics at all and chakan's handling pretty suck. i guess i'm spoiled by land/world of illusion and sonic. :D
Really good episode guys. With Rival Turf it is interesting how when publishers brought game series over from Japan they just changed up the names to make them there own title despite if they were part of an ongoing series....... though it's probably either "they didn't care lets just get those games out" or "the last game didn't do as well as they hoped so maybe changing the name of the next game will differentiate enough to get more people to buy it.
David White Great news... it would make it cool to watch episodes at a constant HD definition. I'll be waiting for this to happen... just please don't limit it to USA distribution... it will be such an ass to get it arranged to send it to AU. ;-)
I was looking forward to this episode. By 5:59 it seemed pretty apparent Dave and Joe were just aching to make each other play mediocre games on their respective alt-system. You guys could'a done more with this, or at least shed some light on why you wanted to torture each other with these particular games. A lost opportunity, gentleman gamers. Pip! Pip!
If you liked Kirby Superstar, you'd love Kirby's Return to Dreamland on the Wii. It might be the best Kirby game. That's not really relevant to the retro theme of the show, but hey, maybe in your free time.
You are right. That Kirby game on the Wii is very good. The kids also like it. I have been a Kirby fan since I was small and even to this day, that little cream puff still gives me joy.
I would say definitely "Kirby And The Amazing Mirror" for GBA. That 2D game has really smooth animation, style and specially powers. The final power you gain is super awesome, and exploring the map and trying to connect it all is super fun. The graphics are super crisp and polished in that one too. It might be a bit too easy at times though, and even though it has extra Kirbys to help you, you'll miss your beloved helper from Super Star ;)
its a shity game for shity gamers that cant play real games now games like secret of evermore chrono trigger seiken densetsu 3 ilussion of gaia romance saga 3 thoose are reall games
*Hey guys!* Here's an idea for a new episode: unloved systems. Go all out and showcase the best games of the systems everyone hates or doesn't care at all for. You guys don't like the Virtual Boy but it had 5 to 10 games that were excellent (a lot considering it only ever got 25 pieces of software...) SEGA CD and 32X got good stuff, Lynx got decent stuff, Game Gear had an _amazing_ library going for it. Also Joe thanks for the line at 4:07. Seriously, thank you.
Excellent video as always, gentlemen. Lots of interesting looking games here that I think I need to even try out for myself! 5:00 "Help me Mega Man-Kenobi...you're my only Blue Bombing hope" :P
Great show as always guys. Your production value is second to none. I never thought much of Magic Sword until I played it with a long distance friend on the Final Fight Double Impact game on PSN. It's really a much better experience when playing it with a friend, or perhaps even an enemy. :)
LOL! I love how Dave's article in 1994 reads exactly like how he talks in Game Sack episodes! haha

Fantastic video, as always.
The "Mega Power" joke never gets old, but give out a warning next time. I almost choked on my breakfast!
Excellent video! I still have that old issue of EGM with Virtua Fighter on the cover! Awesome. I didn't know Dave wrote that letter!
The Face Ball segment is life!

Thanks!
5:27 Shots fired by Joe.
Would you guys consider do an episode about games that could make some one hate the console (if its the only experience of a person).
I'd like to see that.
And E.T. would make everyone hate videogames hahaha
mendyc158 hahaha! How banal.
matt fahringer You again? Quit stalking me, freak.
matt fahringer I'm sorry that your mother and father are brother and sister you back water adult baby.
You guys should do another video like this. Dave gives Joe 5 N64 games to review and Joe gives Dave 5 Sega Saturn games to review.
Friends don't give friends Rival Turf.
Great episode, guys. Especially happy to see Alisia Dragoon and Robo Aleste there.
isnt the wii 32 bit?
Faceball 2000 review is THE BEST THING ON THE INTERNET
1) The title killed me XD
2) Joe, do yourself a favor and SKIP...
X6 was ok
The best I have played so far is X5.
Never get the chance to beat X6 though....
MrJechgo
Oh, come on, I love X6 but it was broken.
Love that Joe knew about the bitness of the Virtual Boy =) thumb uped the video immediatly after he did!
how cruel to give dave chakan first. it's so god awful that he will be a nintendo fanboy more than ever. ;)
i was so deeply disappointed when i played it the first time because the music, the backgrounds, the graphics at all and chakan's handling pretty suck. i guess i'm spoiled by land/world of illusion and sonic. :D
I was overcome by B.O.B. nostalgia... I have no idea why.
Not to mention the annoyingly slow startup whenever you're about to play a stage, which is also kind of a problem in "Taz In: Escape From Mars". :P
the amount of innuendo in this episode is too much haha! great as usual
Sega fanboys are always more knowledgeable gamers
So true
Really good episode guys. With Rival Turf it is interesting how when publishers brought game series over from Japan they just changed up the names to make them there own title despite if they were part of an ongoing series....... though it's probably either "they didn't care lets just get those games out" or "the last game didn't do as well as they hoped so maybe changing the name of the next game will differentiate enough to get more people to buy it.
I like when fanboys are forced to do stuff. Whatever it is
I've seen some of these before but it's a pleasant look back.
Make a dvd
LoL. I thumbs up this comment every episode. Have no fear things are in the works.
David White bluray would be better but id buy the dvds if they were available
David White Great news... it would make it cool to watch episodes at a constant HD definition. I'll be waiting for this to happen... just please don't limit it to USA distribution... it will be such an ass to get it arranged to send it to AU. ;-)
David White
I know, but I'm going to make the same comment until the dvd or blu ray is released. :)
Kirby 64 will always be my favourite.
That is an awesome game. All the Kirby games give me great joy and I hope Nintendo/HAL keep pushing them out.
*****
Me too Amber!
I laughed so hard when I saw the shirt that says "Ask me about Fugazi" and I don't even know why either,
Faceball 2000 ROFL
I lost it on the Faceball review, brilliant! Hahaha, great video as always guys!!!

Retrogaming Insanity says the guy with the sonic avatar
least sonic is good game faceball is gay
*Hey guys!*
Here's an idea for a new episode: unloved systems.
Go all out and showcase the best games of the systems everyone hates or doesn't care at all for.
You guys don't like the Virtual Boy but it had 5 to 10 games that were excellent (a lot considering it only ever got 25 pieces of software...)
SEGA CD and 32X got good stuff, Lynx got decent stuff, Game Gear had an _amazing_ library going for it.
Looooved how you showed Abenobashi Magical Shopping Arcade! That's one of my favorite animes! Awesome!
I'd start reconsidering friendships when you are given Rival Turf and Faceball to play. :^)
Another great one, guys. The editing was kick ass!!!!!!
Kirby has such an amazing soundtrack!
Great show as always guys. Your production value is second to none. I never thought much of Magic Sword until I played it with a long distance friend on the Final Fight Double Impact game on PSN. It's really a much better experience when playing it with a friend, or perhaps even an enemy. :)
