- If you've managed to get your hands on one of our children's books, you might have noticed a wee dog on one of the pages, and if you've been following us for quite some time then you'll recognise that wee dog - it's Balou, the dog we found in Albania a few years ago ❤️. Before heading back on the road, we thought we'd love to give her a wee visit and see how her life's turned out 😍 So Nala and I got Nessie ready, packed my mum and the dogs in the back and started our journey... until Nessie broke down again 😭😭

We’re Dean & Nala, and we’ve been best friends since December 2018. I was cycling around the world when I heard Nala meowing out for me somewhere in the Bosnian mountains. With no intentions of keeping Nala, I knew i had to save the wee kitten and take her to the vet - but I was well aware of the fact that it might be a bit of a challenge considering I only had a bike. However, despite my concerns, Nala quickly climbed out of the front bag on the bike handle and straight onto my shoulder. Since then, we’ve been travelling the world together. I have been watching Dean and Nala since the beginning, and I am still surprised at how Nala can make herself at home just about anywhere including inside a pub! You've got to love it!

@@down-the-rabbit-hole Same here. My cat used to hide under my bed whenever someone ranged the doorbell. Now she hides under my bed as soon as she hears the sound of a car door closing (about 10 seconds before the doorbell rings!)

For me, the past 6 years or so have been really hard for different reasons, including a big financial hit from Covid. I mean, everyone took a hit from Covid in one way or another, but watching Nala's videos has helped me in so many ways. One of the best parts is Dean's positive outlook, no matter the circumstances or setbacks or unexpected changes. An issue with Nessie, something that could spoil a trip AND put a huge dent in someone's bank account, turns into a lovely evening in a "wee wigwam" with mom, Nala, and the dogs. And with a hot tub, no less! This has helped me to remember that, even in the darkest moment or the most daunting mountain ahead of me, there is light and love and blessing on the other side. All I have to do is keep going and look for it. Thank you.
I’ve never seen such a confident and contented cat as Nala. I think that says a lot for Dean.

Many of us have the same sentiment, particularly those of us who are getting on in the years and have been without Mom for a while. It's nice to see mother and son getting along so well. It warms my old heart.

The trick before taking your cat on a trip is to clean the litter box at home and put lots of new, fresh litter in right before you leave. Mine will always use it right away.

Just love Nala when the dogs are around, she runs after them. I've noticed this in the past when you and your Mum were off travelling. You have fantastic relationship with your Mum Dean, you go great together.
After years of following you i am still amazed at Nala. She can go anywhere not afraid of anything always friendly and active. Unbelievable that you can be at a pub with her so freely. Always a pleasure to watch. Hope the van gets repaired soon.

Dean and Nala are always including the loyal followers on their travels as well as the holiday season. Nessie is a temperamental vehicle but will be an integral part of our TH-cam family. ❤️ 💙 💜

So maybe having to stop at the wigwam wasn't in the plan but, trust me Dean, you're going to absolutely treasure this time with your mom. My mom and I have had our share in "not in the plan" trip diversions and I treasure them to this day. Mom and I shared many road trips but the ones we shared after I became an adult were the best.

I love the opening video and music - always brings me a lot of happiness seeing Nala looking out of the bike basket! Have a great trip with mom and doggies and Balou! LOL😂Nala and the litter visit before the journey! Smarty Cat 🐈😸🐈
I love seeing Nala in the bike basket too and sometimes watch older videos for that. My favourite bits are when she “surfs”, standing in the edges of the bike basket.
🐾 Still sad about Ghost but can't wait to see Balou again and see her well 🐶
Finding little lost Ghost was a poignant part of Dean’s story. I was heart-warmed when Dean cycled back for four hours for vet care, when he was one mile from the checkpoint border of the next country he was to visit. It was at that time I became fully invested in the unfolding story of this sweet man and his animals. I recall from another blog episode, Dean packing up his bike, looking down at Nala and Ghost, and saying, My Team is ready to go! It was an accomplishment how Dean carried his team on his cycle. It was a heartbreak to lose Ghost, who was set to reside with Dean’s sister, to disease. Thank you for your comment and condolences.
Balou's story immediately reminded me of Ghost. RIP lovely boy🐕

I swear Dean. You always find such fun and different places and things to do. I have a feeling that virtually everywhere you go in Scotland is an adventure to happen. Enjoy and God bless you all.

I think that Dean can love Nala as he does because of the love he has in his family. They all seem so happy and they all care greatly about one another and enjoy one another's company. And all is so trusting and fearless because she's been loved so wonderfully. It's just perfect all the way around. Thank you Dean and Nala.

Omg!🤯 That little cabin is AMAZING -- it's got a nicer bathroom than any place l have ever lived, l'm 62 and NOT kidding! In fact it's nicer than my 1st apartment which was a basement bachelor with wild rats. Also not a joke. I could happily live in that cabin for months!!!👍🏻👌🏻
I'm so sorry l missed this live, but still happy to see it now. The end reminds me of the good laughs l have with my own son. He has his own place & cat, l have mine. But our family of four is him, me & our kitties.

Hopefully it's just the clutch, they usually give you some warning signs before they fail completely. Have the mechanic check out the transmission as well, sounds like there might be a problem in there. Practice shifting without using the clutch. The VW vans come in one of two categories, those that are being repaired and those that will soon need repairing.
Dean, I hope you get Nessie up and running. My Mom has a Yorkie too, Suki. When 4yrs ago we were in a very difficult place. Our Van was stolen here in Albuquerque, going there for a job interview. Suki the Yorkie was with us, gave us tremendous Love during that bad time. Joan ❤❤❤ Hi Nala
