- Ever wondered what a tire is made of? What layers are in a tire? Why is it a radial tire? What were bias tires anyway? Why is my tire asymmetric? What do the different layers inside a tire do? All these questions and more are answered by Cooper Tire engineer Jenny Paige.

These Tires saved my life. Thank You Cooper
Great job by the engineer giving detailed explanations, especially about how tires wear and why tire rotations are necessary.
I was SOOOOO impressed with her!!
Alex, I love what you are doing with this channel. I enjoy your car reviews, but these types of informative & technical videos are probably more valuable, and no one else does them. There are so many myths & misconceptions out there about how things work and why engineers & designers do what they do. Videos like this one offer a peek behind the curtain and hopefully pique interest in people to dive to greater depths.
Great tech article. Good balance video length vs. technical detail. I remember well the phasing in of radial tires in the '70's. They were way better than the horrible old bias ply tires in very way. I recently retired from 35 years in the tire bizz. Your question about silica was really good. Early attempts to blend in silica were hampered by a poor wet performance/ tread life compromise which is now solved.
Great video! Would love to see more technical videos on A\A!
Very interesting ,Alex! I remember years ago tires made with rayon, they would always thump when cold!
Cool Alex. It would be great if you did a series, like how a nav unit really works, or awd, etc. In layman's terms.
Great job Jenny ,Very informative .
Nice vid, Alex! As a fan of the CS4, I am interested in more information on the CS5. Good information on the build of the tire. Keep these types of videos coming!
Nice Alex. I like variety of videos you post besides car reviews.
Thanks for posting this vid Alex!
Very informative video about automotive tire construction. If you are even just a little bit curious, watch it.
very interesting explanations. Extremely usefull technical informations. Thanks both of you.
Very imformative. You are the man..
Hey That's my tire. I love Cooper tires. I drifted once (continental) and it was a mistake. My wife got 70'000 miles out of a set of cs4's. And she never got a flat. I use Discoverer on my Suburban. Best ride I ever had. Thank You.
Great info....Smart engineer!
This was incredibly interesting!!! I'm definitely researching my next tire purchase. I have I'm perfections on all 4 of my tires where they connected together. The sidewall creases in then bubbles out and creases in. All I can think is that's where the tire was joined but it makes me slightly nervous plus it looks bad when I shine them up.
Yea it sounds like new tire time.
Nice very good information. Try to make more videos Michelin and Goodyear so we can compare the brands and technology. Thanks
I enjoy these technical videos. Just to let you know I only hear her from my left ear, I hear you from both.
I'll have to see what went wrong. I thought the audio had been fully blended but Premier Pro was just not agreeing with me this week.
Thanks for the video. I’ve got a set of 4 year old tires with 25000 miles that are showing cracks in between tread. Nothing on the side walls. Should I be worried of a blowout or are they just superficial? Thanks for your time and patience .
Steve
Good technical video. I wish you had at least touched on the issue of run flat tires and whether they are going to become mainstream as automakers look for ways to increase mileage by reducing weight such as the spare.
Thanks Alex!
great tech video
Great information thank u
Hi I have a question and found you when searching about tire anatomy. I wanted to make rubber paddles to use as a Snow Blower Impeller kit. I was thinking of using an old tire to cut paddles out of. But now I’m thinking the steel bands would tear up the inside metal cylinder walls. Are there parts of the tire that don’t have the steel bands (i.e. sidewalls)? I need 4 pieces about 2” wide and 5” in length.
Thank you
I need some inner liner for a project....how could I obtain some?
Just ordered a set of these for a somewhat "economy" car, that gets driven rather spiritedly.
Curious to see how they do.
Thanks
I have a 3 year warranty through Big O tires but would they take it seriously and replace all 4 tires or do I contact the tire company?
Start at the place that sold you the tire (and likely wants you to buy from them again) and if you don't get satisfaction there, contact the tire company.
True. Every passing day it bothers me more because they are very obvious imperfections, I hope I get treated right.
Those two should go on a date. LoL!
nice..did they give you free tires?
Sadly no, but I did get to keep the bright red shirt that they all made us wear. :-)
They are only 4 months old and have looked like this from day 1.
Yikes! You should look into a warranty claim.
No wonder why they're so expensive.
They said it was normal because I have a higher rated ply on my sidewalls and that's where the connection was made. So I guess I have to take their word for it.
Have a picture of it?
What's your email Alex to send the picture too

How old is a tire when it needs to be scrapped.
6 years.
The big car mags should be very afraid of you, Alex.
Cool Alex. It would be great if you did a series, like how a nav unit really works, or awd, etc. In layman's terms.
