As many of you have pointed out, multiplayer is indeed coming in an update patch in online and local flavours; we've reached out to the publishers who confirmed it is currently in development, but is not available at launch. At the time of writing we were not aware of this until after publication, hence it's omission in the review itself.
Sorry I'm not savvy when it comes to this stuff, but does this mean that I'll be able to update this game in the future to enable multi game play? Thanks.
Good to know that the Switch port of Grid Autosport is a solid package with a pending multiplayer update coming in the future. I wanted something outside of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Fast RMX.
jakthebomb Sure, but it would also have been nice mentioning that a multiplayer patch is already in the works, so that people interested in that aspect might not just pass on this game for good but know that maybe in just a few weeks or months they could get what they want.
F1 world grand prix on N64 had a system where you had to double tap the digital throttle to floor it. And just hold it to accelerate gently. It worked really well.
Looks awesome. I've been wishing for a full featured racing game for switch and here it is. May wait for black friday though, 35 for a 5 year old game is a bit much. So excited it has gamecube controller support, however I never played gamecube racing games with shoulder buttons.
Honestly I'm more into the open world street racing types of game. But because the switch desperately needed a good sim, I can make an exception for Grid.
You forgot to mention that this game was also released on PC originally. I hate PC gaming too but it is technically the best version of the game. Looks great at ultra settings at 4k60 fps and even a modest PC can run it. Plus it has wheel support so yea... (360 and PS3 do as well, but iphone (obviously) and Switch do not, as confirmed by Feral on twitter... after I asked them lol)
I always used the the right analog to control throttle and braking on gram Turismo so this is perfect for me so I can use the triggers to shift like it should be
Unfortunately, this game does not support the Hori racing wheel & pedals. You can use them as a controller, but you'll have between 40 - 60 degrees of dead zone on center which is about the same as a 1985 propane ford work truck.
I am waiting for the New GRID for the PS4. Biut, this game was very good back in 2014, and still holds itself today. Very recommended for gearheads tam own a Switch.
WolfeGaming I have it already on the PS3 and I had to say although it is a port it looks MUCH better than the PS3 version, they have definitely put the effort in, the switch really really needs these kind of racers and this feels like the first real racing game
NFS: Hot Pursuit remastered comes pretty close for me (and I'm a bit biased growing up witht he original) but yeah this game is awesome. I just picked it up and I'm surprised how well this game runs on switch. And coming from experience I thought this was just going to be another watered down port with 25fps or something lol

I wonder if the initial omission of multiplayer has anything to do with the mobile version. Maybe this is a port of the android game and then they had to develop multiplayer exclusively for the Switch version.
I need a racing game with realistic physics with the option to change weather status and have road conditions affected. This would give a racing game have a real world benefit while still being fun, probably more fun.
I don't care for these types of games, so I was showing up expecting this to be a crappy port or something. I still don't care for this game, but I seriously wished more devs would do the Quality/Performance options. Oh well...
Like the sim aspect of this game coupled with realistic visuals. How did you play GRID on this video? Wheel? Other? Gameplay looks rather smooth. Something I can't say playing GRID on the Switch connected to a Logitech G29 via Reasnow S1. Not sure this is a setting or an issue with the G29 itself but it's a bit frustrating
Rise: Race the future is a great game on the switch and goes on sale for a whopping 10 bucks... Give you the option of higher quality graphics at 30fps or lower quality graphics at 60fps which I absolutely prefer. The lower quality graphics still look perfectly acceptable for a switch game and the frame rate is extremely smooth. The game also has a water aspect where your car turns into a DeLorean during parts of the map. It is a great game for 10 dollars if you don't want to drop 30 dollars on GRID racing which personally ill just stick to using on the phone. The Gear Club Unlimited games are okay but the first one just runs at to low a frame rate to really be enjoyable though the games do look decent. Gear Unlimited 2 runs at a low frame rate too but I think it runs at a more stable frame rate and stays closer to 30 the entire time. Regardless my favorite so far is Rise: Race the future and Manticore Galaxy on Fire is also a great game if you prefer starships stunning graphics for the switch and high frame rates all for 4 bucks.
Lack of multiplayer might be a real disadvantage for you, but for me personally it's totally fine. I don't get why nowadays everyone suddenly wants to play online. People are idiots on average so I prefer to compete against the AI.
my only complaint is the joy con analog stick really hurts my thumb. otherwise it is really solid for a mobile game. think about it as a more polished and physically accurate real racing 3 with less car choices but no paywall or stupid grind. imo a much more reasonable purchase than shit like astral chain, which i can barely stand playing now. i dont care if this game is old, it works well on switch and i can pick it up and play a bit and drop it when i need to do something else.
Wow Nintendo fans are odd, reviews are for what is there not what is coming after launch. Sure they could have mentioned it but it wasn't there day one.
