The fact that you can´t see the Commendatore, gives a really nerv chilling effect. It takes some really good acting of Don Giovanni to make it work, but thats no problem for Allen. Thrilling, love it!
The greatest scene from the greatest opera ever written. It never fails to frighten me. The very thought of going to Hell ALIVE is enough to make you die of fright.
You didn’t see the 1986 version with Thomas Allen too. The interaction between DonnGiovanni and the Comendatire was more heavy. Not mentioning Leporellos performance.I think it was the best version of all . Greetings from Rio.
Allen s a great performer. Shame that he could never make it to the end of a performance vocally. I saw him dozens of times and not a single time did he make it till the end without becoming horse!
ok i sing tenor so this might not be my area, but.... and mind you i only know this scene... are they singing the wrong notes or something? I mean ... the lows weren't ... low? also the staging got the better of the actors.
@@sadkrebssdownfallparody2327 WHOA! You’ve come out *against* something. Righteous Forces will surely group and swarm and clamor and attack you personally now.
Dommage...
Couldn't disagree more. Kopchak is fine, if unremarkable. But Allen sounds simply awful. Even an opera neophyte would know his voice is in tatters here.
All voices are to weak. Baritons singing Bass roles and do not singing the low notes. By the way is this normal now a days? Ha ha ha, Sorry for my bad englisch

Allen!! You are hard job, thank you❤
Have you seen that magic at the beginning? The table disappears under the table cloth.
Allen of course, is wonderful!
A stunning performance, but you can definitely tell that Allen's voice is tired. And I gotta say, that choir is superb.
the tempo is just fine. i like the voices 5/5 stars. one of the best commendatore scenes.
Versione molto bella !
Grazie
Csodálatos a színészi játék IS! BRAVISSIMO!
que finall que finalll bravo!! bravo!!! excelente!!
i love thomas!
Oh, but I wish Allen went down the fifth for "ho gia risolTO" instead of staying on the same note...
regia Giorgio Strehler! mi chiedo perché omettere certi dettagli?!
The Commendatore is too gigantic...
Allen s a great performer. Shame that he could never make it to the end of a performance vocally. I saw him dozens of times and not a single time did he make it till the end without becoming horse!
Where is the Commendatore? The "statue" in the backround doesn't look like it's singing! Why are they not holding hands? o_O
👏👏👏👏👏👏
Why Leporello is dressed like he was in the 1600's?
Si salva Desderi. Il resto mancia.
Muito top, maravilhoso!!!!!!! Pena que eu não entendo italiano kkkkk
Ricordo le polemiche per questo Don Giovanni. Ascoltarlo oggi fa rabbrividire... che voci brutte!!! Ma ragazzi la regia era meravigliosa!
totalmente deacuerdo contigo
The commendatore sounds like Elmar Fud... :-)

Who directed this la scala production? Not the conductor Ricardo Muti? Not by any chance Franco Zefirelli? Jean Pierre Ponnelle?
Director was Giorgio Strehler
@@peppopb totally new name to me.

Try Giorgio or Silvesteri for Commendatore.
The base is not very strong and dramatic. Don Giovanni singing is feeble
I've watched this scene in many different versions and in my opinion this one stinks
Indeed it's to fast, my personal favourite is Ruggero Raimondi's one in Losey's Film or Dimitris Tiliakos's one

TO BAD ALLEN HAS NO VOICE ANYMORE...

I wasn't really impressed with this version
I tend to find most versions not quite impressive.
Couldn't disagree more. Kopchak is fine, if unremarkable. But Allen sounds simply awful. Even an opera neophyte would know his voice is in tatters here.
Not the best choice of voices
La Scala!!?? Disastrous...
Totally agree. Also, the commendatore is weak and not potent enough.
All voices are to weak. Baritons singing Bass roles and do not singing the low notes. By the way is this normal now a days?
Ha ha ha,
Sorry for my bad englisch
Thomas Allen sounds awful in this take
