  • I am up in the moors behind the village I grew up in with a minimalist set up (Axe, knife, saw, stainless steel mug, titanium canteen set, army poncho, army wool blanket and enough food for a few days) all packed into the 58 British army webbing system. With no real plan of how long I will be out for, and just see how the flow goes.
I made a bushcraft style bed for the in some spruce woods, one of the few woods left around that area (that no one seems to go to) and spent my time enjoying what felt like the first days of spring after a very, very wet start to the year.
I hope yea enjoy the video
    Conor

Anyone that uses 58 pattern webbing by choice deserves a thumbs up any day of the week!😂👍🏻

Absolutely excellent video my man! Properly enjoyed that, felt like I was there with you.. camp setup looked top notch and good to see some weapons practice! It's always funny listening to the happy noises that come out of people when they get a good bit of scran after a hard day outside! Good job buddy!

Thank you mate. Ach, just stomping about the home ground n havin fun. Aye, if you watch that bit with the food and turn on the CC, it says (camping fact - food always looks and tastes better when camping) ahha
Although, whenever we are out for a night or two and caveman cook a steak on a rock.. that always actually tastes better than any other way of cooking a steak to me..

This might be a cheesy thing to say, but Les Hiddens is still one of my favourite people to watch walking about the wilds.. a very different set of disciplines to be out there!

Looks like I've found my new favourite channel. Love the simple and natural approach you take to camping and your gear looks well smart, especially the webbing. Was looking at the US LC2 webbing myself but might get the one you have instead. All the best from Lancashire 🌹

Welcome to the channel bud. The 58 is a crackin system to have. Pretty simple, modular and well made. The quality of the stitching is fantastic, which I have found to be a big let down in most modern gear. It's been around fir a looong time and it looks like it has had quite a life before I got it. But it still holds up. Having all the weight so low down and close to my body makes walking feel more natural and more balanced over rougher terrain
One thing I keep reading about is how heavy the material gets when it's wet, and how it will "tighten" the wetter it gets. I havent found that to be the case yet, but I do my best to keep it dry..
I accidentally ordered a new cadet belt, which was the only disappointing part. I had to reshape the metal clip and really work the material before it felt comfortable.. but other than that. Very happy with it
I was interested in the PLCE, ALICE, MOLLE systems.. and i think they do have some features that this system lacks due to its simplicity.. but, the simplicity and lack of plastic is what I really appreciate about it. Different strokes!
Glad ye enjoyed the video mate! Cọnọr

@@conor_finn It's definitely the case that things aren't made like they used to be, if at all! I feel drawn to all things canvas and metal buckles are certainly preferable to plastic. I try to minimise plastic when it comes to my camping gear as it feels out of place in that environment.
I'll invest in the 58 webbing soon and pair it with my 20L pack for summer camping. Nice one for the reply, look forward to more content from ya 👍🏼

Great video mate love the basic gear ... The 58 webbing brought back memories and made me comment as a wee tip, have you tried strapping the poncho across the top of the kidney pouches? It will stop it bouncing about! Great work though look forward to seeing more.

Thanks mate! I haven’t experimented with it set up like that yet.. I’ll give it a wee shot. I like the weight being so low and close to the hips but I’m always open to changing if there is a better way.
I think the next time I’m out, it’s going to be too hot to be wearing all those layers on the move. So i was thinking of rolling up the jackets and popping them on top of the kidney pouches.. I also really appreciate not having the sweaty back from lugging a pack.
Was there any wee tips and tricks you picked up from using the 58 webbing? I love the gear, it’s been used and abused and still feels bomb proof, but wondering if you found they need any specific maintenance so it stays that way?
Thanks for the feedback and I’m glad ye enjoyed the video
