  • If you are a tall guy on any sort of Harley touring bike or if you are planning on buying one, here is a list of things you can do to be more comfortable. Here is a video on the parts I bought to get comfy on my 2019 Street Glide at 6'2! **THE BARS ARE 12" NOT 10"**

I'm 6'4" and have a Roadglide Special with 16" wild one reaper bars the mustang seat for tall riders floor board forward extenders, extended brake pedal. Now she fits me like a glove, its ashame us tall guys have to spend $1000's of dollars to make them fit us; it'd be nice if harley made a tall mans edition for each frame! LOL !

I'm 6'4" and replaced all the items you mentioned. Finally after 3 seats I went with le pera maverick daddy long legs tall. By far the longest seat I've ever been on. Not all extended reach seats are the same as advertised. Le pera really set me back in the saddle. I was surprised.

Seating position is one thing but how is that seat on the ass for long rides? I bought a Corbin for my Softail.... it's now 8 years old and unlike what they say about "breaking a seat in" .... that thing broke my ass in! It's hard as a rock and I can't ride more than 3 hours a day with it. It's only mildly better than the factory seat was.

    • @ironsteed5766

@@beri232 The Le Pera seat is not bad comfort wise. On longer rides I usually end up using my airhawk cushion due to my back. I would say that the mustang seats are pretty comfortable but their extended version did not set me back far enough.

My tip, put that highway bar back on and get some lowers for long rides, even soft ones help.
    Also get a backrest

I’m 6-4 and bought a 2012 Roadglide brand new then. No way was i fitting on that bike stock. I did 14 inch Vindikta Marauders ape bars, tall boy seat, extended shifter and highway pegs. Much better comfort. Would be nice if Harley made a special large frame bike ready to go for big guys! For big guys wanting to buy a Harley.. go Roadglide and roll all of your fitment into your financing.

Solid advice -- I had Rocky Mayer (RIP) move the bucket aft about 1" and shaped the saddle like a tractor seat (am not especially tall, but my my legs seem disproportionally long). With the batwing on my Ultra I found a very wide (almost the full width), but quite short, windshield (found by accident, online) which seemed superior to any other windshield I'd tried -- clear view and kept weather off me in all but the heaviest rains. With the engine guard I put highway pegs with the dog-bone adapter -- not so I had to ride with my feet up, but so I could rest my heels on the boards and my toes well out -- once in a blue moon I'd actually put my feet on the highway pegs briefly just to stretch... stock-bars (I'll differ on apes -- haven't had em on any of my bikes since `71 or `72 -- yes, really -- just not my thing...). My long-pavement riding position is sort of a "twist and slouch" one-handed, lop-sided position, but many times I'd logged 22 hours plus in 24, and been totally comfortable -- am a bit past my mid-70s now, but I long contended that a properly set up long-pavement bike should stay comfy as long as you can keep your eyes open... anyway, you hit all the right priorities, at then end of the day each rider is just enough different that it'll be unique, but...

Starting with the bars. He goes with the fashion trend of the ape hangers, in moderation. I disagree. Unless you're a poser who values cool over function, consider that high bars have 3 main problems: they put your hands up in harm's way in the windstream, allowing wind, rain, and bugs (read: live bees) to blow straight up your sleeves. Keeping your hands and sleeves behind the fairing will shield them from flying debris. (Your fairing is not just for the sound system.) They may also raise your hands to a level that discourages blood flow to your hands, a serious detriment in chilly environs and to fatigue. The ape hangers will also change your leverage on the forks, altering the maneuvering characteristics of the bike. They also make for mounting accessories such as cup holders and phone brackets challenging.
Next, the seat. Lower is not better if you're tall because reaching the ground is not our problem so we don't need lower. I've found that adding a couple of inches of padding to my Road Glide seat raised my butt enough to straighten my knees a little which relieves cramping somewhat. The height also reduces toe pointing on the running boards, another source of cramping. Lower seats have to sacrifice padding to get low, so you'll be feeling more bumps, large and small. Remember you're on a touring bike built for racking up hours in the saddle.
But the taller seat will put your head higher into that wind stream, so you might need a bigger wind screen.
I'm glad this tall guy issue came up because most ergonomic vids talk about shorter people problems. I think Harley sets the touring bikes up for people who are 5'9".

@ 5:39 your shifter should have a spacer between the inner primary and the shifter lever. so that stub doesn't stick out...essentially your putting the shifter on where the heel shifter was. It's called a Heel Shift Eliminator, just Google that.

Seems to me like you should do the seat FIRST. It's way cheaper than the bars and not adjustable like bars are. I would do seat, controls, THEN bars. Maybe its bc I'm poor and have to do mods as I can afford them is the justification behind my thinking. I have a 92 EG Sport and I'm 6'5" so we'll see. I know the bars hit my knees before full lock so SOMETHING has to go!

I’m tall 6’2” and I think a seat that moves you back and UP is the answer. Back and DOWN raises you knees in relation to your hips. This doesn’t make sense for a tall guy. Back and UP would decrease bend in both hips and knees. Unfortunately, no one seems to make a seat like that... My $ .02

    • @twowheeledcop9029
      @twowheeledcop9029  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hmmm maybe so. I tried a few seats that sat higher and I didn’t like it. I hate sitting high “on top” of the bike, and would rather sit lower and stretch my legs out. If you are interested in back and up, try the saddleman road sofa extended reach. It may be perfect if you like the look.

You might look into Mustang’s “Rushmore” 2-up seat. I’m about 6’3” w/o shoes, and wanted, like you say, to sit back AND up on my Electra Glide 2020 Standard. (The stock solo seat went straight into the dumpster.) If I remember the description correctly, it moved you back 1.75 inches and up about 1.5. Double-check that. The ergonomics were considerably inhanced, and well worth it to me. Plus the craftsmanship and basic comfort is terrific. Good luck.
