Considering Kuro games are still making changes to core elements of Wuwa like the echo farming system has me convinced the launch is secretly an open beta with the amount of "Listening" the devs have done.
Yeah it feels like the game came out undercooked in a vain attempt to get fame before ZZZ and Natlan come out Terrible performance issues, bad Eng dub, poorly written introductory story, I was excited for the game but left disappointed and uninterested by the time I reached the gacha part.
@@blankuser987 i mean when is the better time than now. Hoyo third game almost out, want them to monopolize again? Even Azure prom plan for release this year.
@@ExzaktVidthat’s not why it’s called an open beta. This is because of troubles in China. You’ll see that most gacha games launched in China are labeled as an “open beta”. I think it’s due to cheaper licensing? I would have to look into it more to say for sure
Funny how just the other day Mihoyo devs and employees were taking selfies with WuWa posters before it's release. Talent recognises talent. Kuro games and Mihoyo never showed themselves as rivals, it's the player base that just sets these arguements like little children fighting over whose toy car is better. Kuro and Mihoyo both have very talented devs and at this point I can only say that gacha games' communities cannot be saved; they're filled with too narrow minded individuals who think they are somehow superior to others for preferring one game over the other as if their lives depend on it. Why cant people just play the damn games? Arent we gamers first? Is it really THAT hard? Well I guess for some it is...
I see this in the kpop fan community as well, they align themselves with these entites and fight tooth and nail to prove that the entities (and by association them) are better, but it has the adverse effect of making them look like frickin' idiots
The problem is that I don't even notice the edm in the open world? It's not really acquired taste. Genshin's overworld ost enhances the experiment while the edm in the game it just feels there? Doesn't make the game feel magical or anything. Very very generic edm it definitely needs more style or something that it's going for.
11:22 Taste in music is a subjective, that's true. What WuWa missed is in its music direction as music feels uninspired. There are times that genre do matter as games with different stages, locations, and scenarios, variety and distinction is important. In case of WuWa, It's hard to get immersed in its open world if the music lacks identity and direction. You heard the term "generic music" and likely heard how one sounds like; it's uncaptivating and no part of it ever "sticks." What's make it worse is that some try to compare it to Genshin, and Genshin as you know it is over-the-top when it doesn't even have to. Kuro Games made PGR and its music is highly praised and yet WuWa never get that same treatment. Hopefully it's just a temporary thing.
It because majority of pgr is by vanguard studios, for wuwa it like majority of WuWa music team and then others on vanguard, though I do think overtime the music will get better
I agree with you. I was really disappointed when I first heard the open world music of WuWa. I was expecting the same music direction that PGR has but meh. When I was playing Genshin when it launched, the music was just so immersive especially when I reached Liyue.

11:57 Dude, sound is literally the central theme of Wuthering Waves's worldbuilding. If ever there's a game that _needs_ a phenomenal OST, it's Wuthering Waves. And WuWa just does not deliver. The OST isn't bad, but it's not special either. It lacks identity. It just sounds like sci-fi game music. Genshin's OST on the other hand sounds like *Genshin.* Like, you hear a Genshin track, you just know it's Genshin. And that's in spite of the range of musical styles and moods present in Genshin's OST -- be it orchestral, traditional Chinese, traditional Japanese, EDM, rock, whatever the fuck Scaramouche's boss theme is -- they all sound like *Genshin.* And that's why Genshin's OST is *objectively* better than WuWa's OST. And I say this as someone who personally prefers the predominantly techno/EDM/lofi style of WuWa's OST over the predominantly orchestral/traditional style of Genshin's OST.
This yea. Not saying Wuwa's OST is bad but it does severely lack an identity, it does not stand out and does not fit the mood. The EDM choice isn't bad but a lot of it is just normal dubstep with beats, there aren't significant or notable pieces that really stand out either. Also people usually underplays the importance of OSTs a lot. It isn't simply to just sound good, it's also to alleviate the experience to another level by giving you some sort of emotion or vibe when playing. The greatest example has to be AK, a lot of its fights may not look as flashy or as intense as most gacha games but its OSTs alleviates the experiences to another level. Turning off its OST will make the gameplay severely less intense. If you just want to see how normal/generic Wuwa's soundtrack is, try to play while turning off your music, it will barely be any different from having it on.
@@Rat_Fบckermaybe,maybe not, game is sure beating it in every other department specially the animations, which I guess is more important in a game than music.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who disagrees with your music take. WuWa's ambient ost is fine, it works but it could be so much better. My most memorable experiences with HSR are tied to music, the most recent one being the final fight in the latest patch. I did a daily quest recently where i had to go to Natasha's clinic and hearing Streets Abuzz just took me back to when i was just starting out. I went into Wuwa expecting its quality to be the same as HSR. Boy was i wrong. I'm glad others are having fun with it, I'll be uninstalling once ZZZ comes out.
Nah down playing the music is insane. If even the guy like marco has to criticize the music then you know it is not good. And yes music is not everything to a gacha game, but it is almost everything to a 3d open world action gacha game. And how come the exploration discussion part of the video got side tracked into the skip button ?

He said music is subjective and we dont have the qualifications to judge it but almost entire of this video is his subjective opinion on the matter. When i click a video title "launch situation" but theres just mostly opinions about the game as "i feel" like a game review but not covering all the stories around the launch situation itself, makes video feel personal and biased
@@jaimestark3019 I actually listened to his points, which is why I am saying this "analysis" is rushed. Definitely not upto par with his other gacha reviews.
I was with you until the music argument, anyone can tell if the food is bad even if you're not a chef. The music tracks are, while I didn't mind it, is forgettable & generic, & it's several tiers below the high standard Kuro set upon itself with PGR. Plus, it's weird to have EDM in a fantasy game based on Chinese mythology. Next there's the, "they made money" point, this is just fanboying. Nobody has detailed information on how much money they spent on development & marketing, so whether or not they made their money back is anyone's guess. Don't forget open world live service games require more manpower for services, that costs a quite a lot to manage. Meanwhile I'm constantly having issues on mobile, while performance on PC can be stutter-filled at times. I'm on the fence about this game, might or might not continue playing this depending on the next update.
Exactly, the whole music argument is just bad. I would say a music score is meant to enhance certain feats or moments within a game. If I were to downplay it, music compliments the game. I think many people could agree with the fact you don't have to be a musician to know what sounds appealing, it's definitely ridiculous.
A good soundtrack during in & out of combat does leave a lasting impression, I want to be able to recognise a BGM even years after I stop playing that game.
IIRC PGR music was outsourced and since WuWa is their first "fully independent game" I think they are doing the music in house. Some of it is nice and fitting but I agree they could stand to step it up a few degrees
i wanna play WuWa so badly but i CANT, i played for an hour and it was hurting my eyes with the blurry unoptimized graphics they gave lower end phones (+ the lag) a problem that i didnt have on genshin. im going to wait and see if they optimize the game better because it seems very fun EDIT: turns out the problem was just the anti-aliasing, I turned it off and now I don't get a headache everytime I play the game 😀👍 there's still some lag but it's manageable so yay
My only real issue with the combat so far is the strange lack of any feedback when you get hit. Maybe there's vibration feedback if you play with a controller or something, IDK, but I play on PC. There really needs to be some kind of sound effect for getting hit, or maybe some screen shake or something.
When you hit ores it kinda has that feeling you want. They probably didn’t do that to enemies for gameplay reasons so that players react better to enemy movements
Bad take. Consumers have every right to judge, like, or dislike any part of a game. Including music. Or are we implying that we can’t say a dish is bad at a restaurant unless we graduated culinary school? Of course, people feeling that WW music is meh is subjective. That doesn’t mean their opinion is invalid. Also, it sure seems a lot of people feel the same way, if the million-view videos in China are anything to go by.
The difference is that you pay for a restaurant to serve you food. You don't go to a restaurant demanding for free service and decide then if you'll pay or not based on your experience. Games like these are free. You are in no way mandated to pay. If it doesn't suit your taste, then drop it like how normal gamers do. Stop making things like choosing a game so unnecessarily deep.
@@maki0794 So your point is that players shouldn’t complain in free to play games? If you really think so, sure, I won’t argue with a retard. Players complain to let developers know what should be improved. If anything the devs actively seek out feedback so they can make the game better and entice players to stay and spend. Criticism is a good thing. But I guess you’re just too insecure to handle critique for a game you like. And FYI, paid players also want better music in the game.
@maki0794 A game being free does not exempt it from criticism. Players invest their time and energy into playing it. If the game is poorly designed or has significant flaws, it wastes the player's time. Time is a resource even more important than money since it's something we won't get back and so players deserve a quality experience in exchange for their time.
I fully agree. Now Even Genshin gives out a little bit more player appreciation goodies. A free 5* standard character on the sixth region. There is no pattern here except the competition released this year.
My main issue with Wuwa is that neither the characters, nor their introductions, nor the world setting is interesting to me. I've played from GBF days, and I've never had to begrudgingly play a gacha game trying so hard to be interested in ONE character, and not finding it after exhausting all currently available quest
And yes, character/story/lore is KING. I can't find myself playing a gacha long term with no attachment to any of the characters, no matter how great the gameplay.
The issue with the Wuwa game is that its pretty laggy and compared to most games out there. This means that the other games that arent laggy has a better tchance of being played by more people than the laggy one. And more players often translates to more profit for the game Really really wished they fixed this before launch or ven thought of it running issues during the development phase. I mean ToF wasnt already a sign back then of how mess up things can get for buggy games
11:31 Great vid as always! but I gotta disagree on this point. There's a reason why people tout gachas such as AK and Genshin in such high regards regarding music due to their phenomenal soundtracks. Sure, Wuthering Waves music is serviceable, but it would be disingenuous to say "who are you to judge music?" when the music is, in fact, created for the playerbase. The players should and will judge music, and praise good music, and to be completely honest, I haven't heard too much praise other than "it's serviceable" and "it's fitting". Not a bad look, but not too great either. But I agree with the other points! I'm sure this game has a great future .
Genshin has like... half a dozen tracks that are great, the rest are ambient ones that you don't really listen to or only good if you're a Genshin player, generic otherwise. Comparing Genshin's soundtrack to any other gacha game is laughable. Nikke and Arknights are miles ahead of Genshin's soundtrack, and it's not even close. Even Girls Frontline, a game that's nearly dead, has a better soundtrack than Genshin.

The reason I prefer Genshin's story is because of each nation identity. Whether it's the music, the map, the clothes, etc, it really helps building the feeling of the game. Nonetheless, I'm playing and enjoying both games.
Ya! I agree with this, however, like the comment above me states, new regions will probably soon be added. My main issue with Wuwa is the game feel so heavy on my computer. I know I don't have the best PC, but I can play Genshin just fine since it's launch until now. I may need to upgrade my PC to fully enjoying Wuwa, which is won't be soon.
The reason why WuWa need a better computer and phone is because it uses Unreal Engine 4, and this engine often targets high-end hardware. Compare to Genshin that uses Unity, which is more flexible and doesn’t need a high-end hardware.
please dont compare Genshin and wuwa together when it come to the argument "But genshin and HSR runs fine" because that game is on UNITY, a much lighter engine, while we have unreal engines 4 on wuwa, which notoriously known to be heavy with difficulty when it come to optimization on it

10:05 I see people often comparing the current state of Wuthering Waves to the initial release of Genshin Impact. While I do agree that it is fair to compare both games in their initial release states, I also think that its a useless comparison to make. At the end of the day, when Wuthering Waves competes with Genshin Impact, it competes against its current iteration, and not the initial release version. Of course Wuthering Waves is likely to get polished as it gets updated, likely receiving attaining a similar quality level to Genshin Impact. The difficulty is that Genshin is already out in a fairly polished state. Genshin has the advantage of being out for many years before Wuthering Waves, and as a result, has a level of polish and content that Wuthering Waves does not yet have. I can see how the comparison would be beneficial if it is being used to judge how Wuthering Waves might become more polished over time, but it isn't useful when trying to compare the quality of the two games. TLDR: While its more fair to compare both games at their initial release, I think its not a useful comparison because Wuthering Waves, when competing with Genshin, competes against its current version and not its Initial release.
I'll add that it's unfair in the way that there wasn't really anything like Genshin before it. Any subsequent open-world gacha that comes after Genshin can learn from the mistakes it made and improve upon them.
@@nekonochesire6023 Thats a great point. When genshin released, it could only really be compared to Breath of the Wild; a game that was very successful but was also 3 years old with no sequel yet. Genshin was able to fulfill a unique need in providing similar gameplay that people were hungry for. Wuthering Waves provides similar gameplay to genshin at a time where that sort of gameplay is a lot more available, making it not very unique in the need it fulfills
It's gonna be a blood bath in the next few weeks. 3 new characters + a very popular and meta archon being released in Genshin then after that a new region. Sam/Firefly in HSR plus a compelling story in Penacony. I'm hoping WuWa can keep their playerbase esp with all the mini disasters they've been having all week.
Add on that ZZZ drops next month which is competing for the same player base and the future for WuWa is not looking good. Doubly so because supposedly the money they made the first week or two from launch is very low. That's just hearsay though, no guarantee on that.
Not really an issue since the most important market for gacha games are the whales who have nowhere to put their money on. Even Tower of Fantasy still has whales that are willing to throw their money away. Keep the whales happy, and money keeps coming.
A big point of frustration for me is the performance. I'm playing at literally the lowest settings possible and at .9x resolution, in a windowed mode smaller than my monitor, and I'm still barely getting a consistent 30 frames.

Pretty good points! I really hope for the games best. But the notion "We should compare 1.0 in WuWa to 1.0 in Genshin" isn't quite right. Those games do have 4 years apart of each other. You most definitely will not want to compare, for example, all releasing MMO's today to WoW's (2004) Classic.
This! This might sound like a bit of a stretch but if people don't care enough to worry about the negative media surrounding the game (as he mentioned before) then they probably wouldn't care enough to think and compare WuWa 1.0 to Genshin 1.0. People are likely going to have expectations as high as where Genshin is rn, since that's what today's standard is. I do get that it's important to compare the launch of both games as a gauge for the state of the game at launch but it's not exactly right.
@@NatWarrior1at the same time, comparing a company that has been making games for over a decade with one thats barely half a decade isn't really fair. Im guessing this was all recorded before the jp mistranslation followed by leak fiasco. The game made about 25mill with china and global combined on mobile. Which would be great if it was a lower maintenance game like a png or chibi auto battler or something along those lines. But open world/3d games are exponentially more expensive to upkeep and make content for, especially when they basically just lost an entire region worth of revenue from the huge privacy leak in jp.
"on mobile" there are player bases outside of tht, and 25 mil "only on mobile" with tht horrible of a launch,is in no way a low income for a game ,that's just a week old.
@@oreo0sama obviously there are player bases out side of that...but that wasnt really the point, as unless they are making 90% of their revenue or something from pc(which they arent), using mobile numbers gives a rough idea of the financial success of a multi platform gacha. I mean genshin made like 60mill in its first week on mobile alone with CN+global and it kept going UP, and pretty significantly at that. Im not saying 25m isnt a lot of money, of course it is and they made a lot more than that when factoring pc. But as i also said its a lot more expensive to upkeep a 3D open world game than a simple png or 2d turn based game. 25million for a 2d chibi turn based game like that means they are raking in huge gains, but 25mill for an open world you have to keep updating and making content for is not nearly the same amount of gains as its going to be taking a larger cut of that revenue to produce more stuff. Especially when there's a chance a lot of whales in one of the largest spending region in the world for gachas mostly back out of swiping due to the fiasco so the first week isn't representative of that situation. Im not saying the game is dead or the servers are shutting down, but there are financial targets that can fail to be reached and it's not a good look for your revenue to be hyper inconsistent, like nikke for example which flip flops between 10m and 30m.

JP players ain't spending shit on this game anymore with how they got treated. CN players are pissed off and openly mocking for multiple reasons. WuWa will end up as PGR, unless they really right the ship soon.
We'll have to see how many pulls they give per patch to see if the rates are generous or not. If Wuwa's pity is lower 10 lower than genshin but gives 10 less pulls per patch it doesn't make a difference. Just an example.
And depends how. For example in pgr you get from 6 to 9k per patch (15 k is the cost of a limited character) and a limited character is avaiable every 2 patches (1 month for an free A rank and then next one is for the limited character) so basically you can guarantee every limited character of the game as f2p. Ofc this excludes skins, weapons and cubs.
I gotta say, I was completely spoiled by Nikke being my first gacha game, without even realizing it. These pull rates in WuWa are freaking killing me. I know that its basically standard rates for most gachas, but that knowledge does nothing to sooth the sting of pulling 80 times just to lose the 50/50.
Agreed 100% this is also my issue with snowbreak containment zone the 50/50 makes me feel like crap whenever I lose a pull it's one of the reasons I'm staying far away from wuw besides my disinterest in the world and characters. I dropped Snowbreak the instant I found out I started playing too late to pull Katya. I didn't even finish Chapter 4, lol. And because the Asterite grind in WuWa sucks, the FOMO set in after I lost the 50/50 for Jiyan and I was like, "fuck pulling another 80 times", and I instatly lost interest in playing. The only element of FOMO in Nikke are the collab characters, none of which I care about, and the skins, which don't matter in the slightest. For me, if you can't make the pulling experience good for F2P players, then I have less than zero reason to spend money on your game.
from my own experience wuwa was NOT ready to be released with its infinite glitches, there's some more subjective things like the fact that when the first location of the game is china it makes some problems, i don't have any problems with the region itself but it's rather the fact that the game should give a good first introduction: genshin gave us a basic medieval city with magic in fantasy setting - mondstadt, hsr literally begins in a space station, name a better location where you begin your journey in a science fiction world, and then we have wuwa with post apocalyptic china thus so far i have tof flashbacks: - being hyped up as a genshin killer but turning out to just be an OK game that can't compete with hoyo (you say tof marketed itself as a competitor to genshin while wuwa didn't but other people under your video about tof already explained otherwise) - niche colour palette / open world design - relatively often appearing dry en voice acting - bugs which make your gameplay experience straight up horrible, they did fix _most_ of them but i don't understand why they didn't have a third cbt or at least had more time fixing the game BEFORE its release and about the competition - wuwa is straight up not genshin's competitor, it has to do with their core gameplay and playerbase focus: as you said when mentioning dodging mechanics, they're targeted at more casual players who are not tryhards and usually will spend 5 minutes in a game a day at most, since it doesn't take long to spend all your daily in-game energy and do your dailies (kinda like hsr but it's a fundamentally different game though), and more importantly echoes gacha makes it easier to get what you need meaning it's very easy to get bored if you're spending a lot of time in the game, in other words - you don't have to delete genshin to play wuwa, meaning hoyo don't care
Wait what’s wrong with the fact that it starts in China? I’m not planning to argue or anything, but can you elaborate on why starting in “post-apocalyptic China” is sorta strange?
@@lilpudding3428 as i said it fails to introduce you to the world if you begin with such a niche topic, genshin is a magic fantasy game and you can see it from the very beginning, hsr is a techy space game and you can see it from the very beginning, but as a newcomer to wuwa i played for a while and still don't understand what this game is about, there are guns but then there is magic, but they don't even explain if it's magic or some technological super stuff... the only thing i get is that characters' powers come from their resonance marks which i straight up can't comprehend, just give this game a topic, i am fine if this game has a very niche setting but then i don't think you can call it a genshin competitor due to how different their targeted playerbase would be

@@ars-br1ms That is very true, it is very niche. I guess the entire game is based on “music” or “rhythm” or “sound,” but I do agree that the entire starting location doesn’t exactly match that. Plus, your thoughts on the strange themes of guns + magic is valid. In Genshin, magic is slightly more understandable because of its fantasy genre. However, in WuWa, however, magic is a little bit strange. If the “resonance mark” gives you magical powers, why would one need to use guns if they can obliterate enemies with magic? And what does a mark even do to make you stronger, does it make your gun shoot “stronger” bullets? A bullet is a bullet! Then again, you can argue that Genshin has the same problem with its bow, however, it just makes more sense because you are imbuing your arrows with a specific type of magic such as Pyro or Dendro. Still though, I have high hopes for this game as it has more “meat” than the flayed fat that was the release of Genshin. It’s story is more complete, yet it could’ve been better if some pathetic kids from CN did not complain about how “the characters are so aggressive” and how they “can’t get immersed because they want their self insert to be greeted like a GOD!” Anyhow, thank you for clearing your case up a tad bit! I bet my 2 nickels that there will eventually be one for the States, Africa, South America, and things along those lines. Though it is quite strange to release something for an audience that probably only made up around only 20%~ of the total consumers, but with time, I hope that this game will eventually become more inclusive with other regions like Genshin.
As someone who throughly enjoys Genshin since release, played quite a bit of Tower of Fantasy and am currently enjoying my time in WUWA, one of the biggest things ive been wanting to see in discussion is competition for the betterment of both products. I feel I can't quite say I'm a fan of something if im not willing to see the negatives and actively hold it accountable for the things the topic is lacking. I'm very much looking forward to the future of WUWA, and hope for its success. So far, there are a few thing that peeve me besides some of what you've already mentioned in the video, ex. Auto aim not targeting the next closest opponet/targeting off an enemy before theyre fully defeated, some control feedback lacking in some encounters and some aggressive pop in even on low settings. Despite all that, I'd love to see where this game goes in the future and whatever you also have to say about it. Your videos on other gachas are very thurough, commenting pros/cons and other outliers while offering beneficial suggestions and propositions. Thank you, and happy adventuring! I hope the best for this one and any others, the more worlds to explore, the better!
I don't agree that "gameplay is king," because there are so many instances of shit gameplay games that do well and games with amazing gameplay that go forgotten. I think what is actually king is marketing and word of mouth.
great example is witcher 3, the game has one of the more subpar gameplay in an RPG. great marketing, lore, story and music made the game one the greatest games of all time
Hyperdimension Neptunia comes to mind when I read your comment. It may not be a big IP and the gameplay were pretty bad but it manage to have several followup releases.
This might be disagreeable for some but for me visual novels are kinda the first thing that comes to mind as a rebuttal to that statement, since visual novels tend to have pretty little gameplay at all but that's just from my experience.
It's quite unfortunate how it became the norm to release buggy games, unoptimized or lacking features and players will be fine with that, waiting for fixes. Remember how we got games back in the day it was a complete experience? Yeah...😢 (For the record I understand why this happens, just irritated from devs being overworked and marketing pushing the release dates when the game is half cooked, and it being the norm. It would've been better if we got the game later and it would have good optimization, instead of them doing damage control after damage control)
@@craigtrish2011 Youre comparing consoles from literal DECADES ago, nowadays companies have the time, money and technology to optimise and fine tune their games. It's become a trend among AAA games and other big titles to be rushed out in unfinished stages for quick cash grabs, big examples being Cyberpunk and Pokemon Violet. You could use the argument that Kuro is a smaller company, however the current state of the game can instead deter players instead of trying to attract them before other games release (ZZZ). A smooth release will always be better at attracting long term players, than a release that is barely playable for many.
id say the thing that makes me not play the game consistently is how it seems too strange and may be very grindy and the story is kinda bad on how your just "the guy" to everyone just like that and 1 big thing is the lag issue the games map is i think not even near 30% as big as genshin map and its framerate and load speed is very slow for me when genshin works like a charm (so no its not cause my device is bad)
The grind is a big thing for me too. Pseychie didn't cover the details of the RNG in the gear AT ALL. They made the relic RNG system so, so much worse than the Hoyo games have it. People who have reached endgame are already aggravated, it will take 30 days for the casual majority to catch up and realise.
Wuthering waves is clearly going for an edm soundtrack rather than an orchestral one, which makes total sense because its more of a science fiction than it is fantasy. The game is also themed around music and sound design puns, so i feel like it makes sense. I think a lot of people are saying the OST is bad because it's edm which is more of an aquired taste. I mean, some of the soundtracks in genshin have electronic/edm elements too but wuwa is more heavily focused on an electric sound. The only issue i have with the soundtrack is that some of the songs feels more like it would be in a movie trailer than something you'd hear traveling an open world, but its more of a nitpick.
Sorry but even if you're looking for EDM, PGR has far superior music to wuwa, I don't understand how their one game can have such incredible music but their latest game that's supposed to be their golden goose have forgettable and bland music, music is what makes exploration in genshin so soothing, chenyu vale is one of my favourite regions because the area is not only fun to explore but the music is so good
@@Indian_gae_boii Because PGR and WuWa are done by completely different teams? Because they're learning as they go with their FIRST attempt at this type of game? Please, just please can people like you just develop a couple of brain cells before you attempt conversation.
At the mention of genshin, HSR and HI3 can also both be brought up and both also use EDM tracks which, although I don't enjoy as much as genshin, I do tend to enjoy more than WW. That's not to say I dislike the music but considering that the game is centered around sound and music I had higher expectations that just weren't met.
edm is far from acquired taste bruh, most of the problem comes at the fact that you have to sacrifice sound effect, which currently is WuWa best sound design, just for a mid and unfun music. even in Genshin most edm part of songs are highly praised over the classical part. Port Ormos is an exception here, not the rule
Honestly i think WUWA the best aspects of TOF with Genshin's, TOF's combat was pretty cool but it lacked any defensive input apart from the dodge mechanic which got old pretty fast.
Seriously tof felt like an auto open world due to the mechanics and the equipment overloaded w random stats.. and the 4 stars lacked any real character to them which is a shame.
If I remember correctly I read that they already recouped their losses from development, if that is true than Wuwa is already a huge success. 1.1 is also an absolutely stellar patch that ups the bar and improves upon almost everything in the game and Kuro is, for gacha gaming at least, a customer friendly developer that values its fanbase, I think that has been shown clearly even with Wuwa already, if nothing else, this makes ne more willing to support them and forgive issues. Personally I do think the launch was a bit rough, especially on the performances and localization side, but I enjoyed it overall nonetheless and with 1.1 doing what it did I have absolutely no issue believing that Kuro will make it into a fantastic game.
There is literally no music while I am exploring the wilderness, never heard such a silence ever in a game💀It was so silent I bet I heard my Rover fart.
@@SM-oc4rc This hurts because the music and ambience breaks pretty frequently in WuWa, giving the OST an uphill battle to actually be heard and remembered by players. 💀
Thank you for the video. I'm really enjoying the game. its nice to see it performing well. Love your videos. Thank you for being here and best of luck.
11:00 Ok, I'll offer an argument against skip buttons then: Skip buttons are a shitty band-aid fix to a bullet-hole problem. If players want a skip button for dialogue, then that means the game has failed in some way, either in writing or in game design. Most gacha games, including Genshin and WuWa, suffer from both at once -- firstly, the dialogue is often needlessly wordy or bloated with non-essential filler; secondly, there's just too damn many non-gameplay dialogue scenes happening constantly. Game writers and designers should aim to keep non-gameplay dialogue scenes infrequent and concise, packing as much characterization and relevant exposition into as small of a package as possible. In the meantime, non-essential dialogue, such as non-plot-relevant lore or banter, should be relegated to in-gameplay dialogue. Take a look at God of War Ragnarok. That game has literal hours' worth of dialogue, but no first-time player thinks "I wish I had a skip button right now". Because non-gameplay dialogue scenes are fairly rare and reserved only for the most important character interactions; the rest of the dialogue occurs during gameplay. So you never feel like you're just waiting around. _That's_ how you do video game dialogue right.
Or maybe it's my second playthrough on a second account and I just want to get to the core gameplay ASAP. Or maybe I installed the game with zero interest to the story and just want to get the characters. Players like me exist. It's not that deep.
@@rcandraditya Hey, I'm not saying they _shouldn't_ add a skip button. Even God of War Ragnarok has a skip button. My point is that a skip button is not a solution and shouldn't be praised as such. If MiHoYo and Kuro want to actually _fix_ the problem, they've got to make it so that the _average first-time player_ doesn't think about skipping cutscenes in the first place. Players like you -- those with second accounts, or those who don't want to see the story even once -- are not "average first-time players".
I think one of the aspects that really need to be a standard in games with verbose dialogues is having a summary shown when you're in the skip confirmation window. Arknights, Blue Archives and Snowbreak all have this and it makes you at the very least know what and why you're going to do X when you're back in the gameplay section. Players then can also immediately make the decision whether to read or watch the story later in TH-cam or dedicated wiki pages once they're done with the story quest.
I slightly agree with all the points, except for the Music. Sound(and by extension, Music) is literally the core theme of the game's lore. Most of the stuff in the game is powered by multiple types of "waves". Sound Waves, Light Waves, Radio Waves, Wutheri- uhh... you get my point. Some enemies are literally named after multiple types of sound: Whisperin, Howlin, Tempest Memphis(thunder). The "Battle Pass" is also a radio of sorts. So seeing all the Sound theme scattered around as either mechanics or lore pieces but has mediocre music is kinda disappointing. The music isn't objectively "bad", it's just very forgetful. There's not a single piece of OST in the game(pre-1.1) that actually made me hum its tune. Whereas Genshin made me hum the tune of Dvalin's boss theme and that one Liyue mountain theme which I love so much. But at least it does get better in 1.1, Mt. Firmament finally has god ass music after all those lame sci fi noises I keep hearing 24/7.
One thing I disagree with. You can rate *game* music objectively, it's not music for listening, it's music for the ambience. Some music shouldn't be use for boss battle no matter what you say, and some shouldn't be use for town. Think about it, you walk into a flower shop and the game start playing dubstep music while the NPC asking you what type of flower do you like. Personally, I don't think WuWa did a good job here, often time I don't even notice the fighting music start playing when I encounter TD pack, this is because the music for overworld exploration and fighting theme have the same BPM and composition style, which is objectively bad design. What I mean is, when you select a song for particular situation, you should make it possible for a layman to notice the song theme start playing at least.
I consider myself rather competent with music, and imo wuthering waves ost is just there. It's not bad, it's not good, it's just there. It doesn't stand out in terms of any creative arrangements, it has quite simple and generic sound design, it's melodies and chord progressions are rather unrecognisable (maybe login theme is cool in that regard but still it's quite repetitive). What I hate, is when people go around and start boasting how their game has the best music. It's really subjective and doesn't bring anything, other than unneeded arguing that wastes everyone's time. There is no way to convince me with logic to like rap, just like it is hard to convince a normal person to love artcore. As for everything else, I hate when people compare 1.0 wuwa to 1.0 genshin. Genshin was there, publicly. Wuwa team had years. I mean, isn't it common knowledge that you should learn from other's mistakes, instead of repeating them? TL;DR - stop forcing you music tastes on others. do not compare 1.0 wuwa to 1.0 genshin cuz we should learn from others mistakes, instead of repeatjng them.
I used to be a hardcore Genshin player, and picking up WuWa was literal music to my ears. Satisfying combat and open world traversal mechanics, dialogue skip button and a more immersive main story plot. Sure enough it takes a lot of "inspiration" from Genshin in many of its core gameplay, but a lot more polished. Like what you quoted, I don't care if it is supposed to be competitive to Genshin, I'm playing it because I'm enjoying it, more than Genshin as it turned out to be :)
Same. But I think genshin is now more of a different genre tho. The worldbuilding and story telling of genshin is on another level. Now i treat genshin as a visual novel accompanied by free open world roaming with a side of combat, that's all
I only play Star Rail so I watch these videos for fun but I got a whiplash when I got to the music part of the video. Now I havent heard WW's OST but I'm a musician and yes, music is an EXTREMELY important part of video gaming experiences, and one of the reason why Genshin is so highly acclaimed. Using the "subjectivity" argument is very very weak, because you can say that about pretty much anything. (See: Joseph Anderson's "Subjectivity Is Implied") People watch these videos to hear your takes and opinions, so you playing defense for the negative criticisms instead of airing your own positive opinion makes you seem like, I'm sorry to say it, a shill.
I’m about UL 38. The story was fine. Started off rough, but got better as it went on. The zone and character stories (not you lion boy) were surprisingly good. There are lots of areas for improvement overall. The combat carries the game hard. Almost every issue I’ve had with the game has just been overshadowed by how much fun I have playing it. Even just getting into world map encounters feels good. It’s clear they picked one area to focus on and let other aspects of the game take a bit of a back seat. I think that’s fine for a 1.0 release. They’ve showed that they can make the gameplay good. Now they just need to show the community they can also do the rest of it in updates.
The Release of WuWa currently is like playing CBT 3, the amount of bugs and graphical issues this game has is just not worth to be released, but in my opinion all this bad things is to be expected in today's game releases, so let's expect good things for the next couple of months. As a Genshin Player i wanted to say that I love WuWa, its seems WuWa learn alot of the things Genshin is bad at and improve upon it, the most noticable improvement i felt while playing WuWa compared to Genshin is the exploration, its way easier and enjoyable to explore in WuWa than Genshin also The combat, the combat is just so satisfying, the slow mo when you do perfect dodge, the "Ding" sound when you parry an attack it's just so good and it also push you to actually learn the enemies move. I really have high hope for this game.
Honestly I've been having a really fun time with wuwa even though it doesn't run well. The story is a rough start but I've been enjoying it more after a couple chapters. It's been running better every time I run the game, which makes me hopeful.
video 5 of asking psy to review guardian tales: i played wuwa literally the hour it came out and my first impressions were absolutely fantastic, the controls were responsive, combat was great, the game looked beautiful and this lasted for a grand total of like... 1 hour? maybe? the optimization was an ABSOLUTE MESS, i dont have that bad of a pc, its quite decent, but not being able to get even 30 fps at the LOWEST settings was atrocious. the voice quality was all over the place. some characters are voiced perfectly in my opinion (scar my beloved) and some were, just, not good man. yangyang was especially a great offender of this. it sounded like everytime she spoke it was asmr, which i HATED. i did hear ppl having issues with female rovers voicelines especially in the scar cutscene however i picked male rover and he did a pretty good job tbh. moving on from optimization and voice issues, trying to level echoes feels atrocious. you get so many echoes form just playing, but the resources required to level said echoes are very VERY scarce, youre gonna spend alot of time on just echoes, which i dont really think is a good thing. and the fact that the overworld bosses, weekly bosses, and echo fields all cost a whopping 60 waveplates also feels really bad, since you feel like youre barely making any progress every time you log in. i know this game has just released, and i know kuro games will eventually fix probably most of the issues that we have, but i do feel they shouldve taken a little more time in developing the game so that it was more finished on launch. i have high hopes for this game, the highs are really high but the lows are so many it kinda drags down the experience. great video psy!
The game still needs more time to fix everything in the performance issues, because I observed their improvement in the span of a week with a gaming laptop, the lag spikes (5 sec freeze) happened every 5-10 seconds of playing (launch day) to once every minute (today). That said, they still need to cook.
the music is serviceable at best even compared to PGR which is also made by kuro games. i think music does elevate the experience of any game gacha or otherwise and i think that Wuthering Waves music is by far the weakest part about the game. there isnt a single track in the 30 hours of Wuthering Waves that ive played and listened to and went wow that sounds really nice, where as i listen to a bunch of track from PGR even when not playing the game. overall i think saying that the music is subjective is only partly true and i think most people will agree that the music is very lacking in quality especially compared to games like PGR or Genshin impact.
3:45 That's not telling the full story. Each character has 10 Stamina, and there are 3 Towers. Two of them (let's call them Tower A and Tower B) have 4 floors. Floor 1 takes 1 Stamina, Floor 2 takes 2, and so on. The third one (let's call it Tower Z) has 2 floors that each take 5 Stamina. The important things to note here are: 1. You can swap weapons and Echoes between characters as they do not have Stamina, only the characters do. 2. You can plan how to use the Stamina. For instance, you can use your 2nd strongest team against Tower A's 1st and 4th floors and Tower B's 1st and 4th floors. If levels are indicative of the floor's difficulty, then Floor 1 has Lv70 enemies, 2 has Lv75, 3 has Lv80, but 4 has Lv90 enemies, a larger jump. Hence you can use your 2nd strongest team against 2 of the hardest floors. Though you'd probably want to save your strongest team for Tower Z. However, say an enemy in Tower Z's 2nd floor resists your main DPS's element. Then you can use your strongest team for Tower Z, 1st floor, Tower A, 1st and 4th floors, and your 2nd strongest team for Tower Z, 2nd floor, Tower B, 1st and 4th floors. Also btw 7:45 afaik the "Genshin Killer" is just misinformation. Meanwhile, the picture shown can be translated to Competing with Genshin, but 对标 (as per Google) is closer to "benchmarked", in other words it means something closer to "Comparable (in quality) to Genshin"; not necessarily "competing" in the sense of "I'm trying to be a better version of this game" but rather "Our playerbases overlap and I'm as good as that game" (I'm not well-versed in Chinese though, so idk, but I'm pretty sure there are many stronger phrases they could use if they do truly mean competing, which admittedly may just be to remain corporate)
@@shorterazer6858 Yes the optimization is very bad and still isn't fixed. I have pretty beeffy PC that has amd ryzen 7 7800X3D processor, RTX 4070 Ti and 32 gb RAM And I'm still suffering from constant stuttering and crashes.
I hope that wuwa success in the market, I am playing it and having a lot of fun, and if genshin's devs starts managing the game better (like changing the absurd amount of pulls for the weapon banner) it will be an win to win situation for the devs and players
Yeah, every time I get a survey in Nikke, I always rewind that I don't read anything outside the game, I don't pay attention to socials, and I don't care about marketing events. That part by Josh strife Hayes is on point
They had to rewrite the story from 0 because of the china fanbase's reviews. If you watch the CBT1 vs the release; CBT1 has way more personnality than wtv is CBT2 (released version)
It will give more incentives to skip at first and when you know nothing in the world proceed to skip world quests and there you go good combat exploring but no attachment to the game or characters appart from appeal
i've been playing for around maybe 100 hours now, and no, you don't have to build multiple teams, you can even build only 2 characters for each team not using any support if you're good enough so it would be 4 or 6 depending on a few details
True, yet those characters would have to be quite cracked + it's early game... I can't speak for all gacha games but the popular comparism with genshin - geshin's first abyss was a challenge but now people would do that with their main character solo. Current end game stat requirements have risen by quite a lot over the years, and meta shifts made many older characters obsolete or nearly unplayable without very specific supports.
Music for me has been weird and inconsistent. Genshin has some ambient overworld bgm to immerse me and memorable battle music. WuWa has… wait, I think I’ve been experiencing a glitch? Apparently I hear almost zero bgm as part of a glitch. That or I cannot recall any memorable music whatsoever. So it’s complicated, but I still think it’s a point worth dwelling on if the comparison is “nice music” and “there’s music?”
I' m a genshin player and I have been enjoying the game a lot. I'm one of the ones having problems with the optimization, but I can play it well enough to enjoy it and to wait for the fixes for my long term experience. I also buyed the monthly pass to support the game, competition does matter and we even got more resin and new endgame in genshin already. That said... Music IS desapointing, sorry. For a game with sound waves as a main theme, the music is just... There. You don't need to beba musicologist to feel when something is just not working and when this is the case. PGR has great music so kuro has the talent but this time they underdelivered.
I still feel that the combat is more similar to Punishing Gray Raven than Tower of Fantasy, but that's just my opinion. The plus side is I don't have to relearn how to play if I decide to take a break from the game, unlike PGR, where I forget how to play some of the more complex characters after coming back to it. The combat is good enough to keep me entertained without getting stressed out, which is exactly what I want in a casual third-person hack-and-slash gacha game.
11:58 I recently realized that the whole game is about Music since it uses Terms like Resonance, Forte, Concerto, Echo so the music should stand out more since all the UI elements use it in some way. But I don't know much about Music, so I can't fairly say if it is good or bad, even in Genshin it is just there for me and sometimes stands out.
I think a big issue on topics surrounding this game is people who praise it are seen as shills or people who just want to see genshin fail or some other BS, while people who point at flaws are seen as people who are hate playing the game or want to see the game fail. I think the vast majority of people are either saying good things about it cause they are genuinely enjoying the game but come online to see so much negativity so they want to try and counter it if even slightly, and most people who are reacting negatively to it want the game to be the best it can but want to point out some issue that may need work. I think the music is boring and uninspired, the combat looks nice but so far has not been engaging to me, the environment has some really cool moments but filled with some bland ones, the story has been a mess so far that i have been through, and the bugs have been plentiful. But i still want the game to succeed, i want to have more fun in the game cause i can see so much potential in it. I hope they continue to improve so even more people can enjoy it.
The same can be said for a lot of Genshin players more specifically Mihoyo stans. They want this game and every other gacha rpg that came out after Genshin to fail. They're leading in the spread of misinfo and negativity in both communities. They're the noisiest members of the crowd. They even review bombed this game prior to release which is a bit pathetic. They're shatting on WuWa for flaws and issues that also existed in Genshin 1.0 until 1.4, but got ultimately called out by other GI players for their bs and attempt to rewrite history.
ikr people are thinking way too black and white about this😭😭 especially since hoyoverse and kuro games are perfectly chill and have nothing against eachother
@@columbinadamselettefan Well the difference is that Kuro has clear Dev. communication (player feedback) while Hoyo only does that when there is competition.
@@ANoobInvoid "Kuro has clear Dev. communication (player feedback" > While the game riddled with bugs and dogshjt story, echos AFTER CBT2 FEEDBACK. Pick a lane.
Final thoughts: I've hit level 30, beaten all story content and never had any performance issues outside of that no sound into a crash bug that happened 2x for me. So performance for me has been flawless. Combat is significantly better than ToF and obviously better than Genshin since well that's just combine elements simulator. Music is great for both games and as a musician for over 20yrs saying music is objectively bad or good is still moronic lol. Graphically I prefer Wuwa's art style but Genshin still looks great in it's own art style. ToF graphics were much lower quality. Wuwa's story isn't great at first but yeah towards the end I actually found myself paying attention and the final hour is an incredible experience. Genshin is obviously known for it's story like Star Rail and is very good. Comparing the open world and exploration of Wuwa and Genshin 1.0 and there's no comparison Wuwa wins easily. The map is bigger, there's actual interesting sub locations like huge mineshafts and underwaterfall caves and Wuwa rarely has more than a few inches of dead space in it's open world unlike Genshins 1.0 release. Genshin drones will talk so much shit about Wuwa and that's because they feel threatened by it's quality if they think back to how their own 1.0 was it's not even in the same league. Genshin now is a great game and Wuwa if given that much development time and the devs don't fuck it up will absolutely be the best open world gacha game. Only time will tell. One last thing that all these fanboys don't think about....competition is what breeds quality. If Genshin doesn't have competition the devs are free to do whatever they want with no threat of "I'm leaving to _____ game" this is how the games industry thrives. Embrace the competition so that both games can become their best versions.
It's just the 3rd bootleg Hoyo game from Kuro. This developer doesn't have a single bit of creativity, shame or pride in their world. if you make a bootleg. You have to make it super polished. They just made a shit bootleg only fueled by the "genshin could never" crowd temporarily untill they find the next thing.
Cope harder I guess, the game is good at it's core. Saying it is fueled by the "genshin could never" is a complete lie, there are people who are playing it because the game looks good and fun
Lmao it's the Genshin fans itself that advertised the game as "Genshin Killer" when it's really not at all, Kuro Games never even said it was supposed to be a "Genshin Killer" in the first place! WuWa has its own identity just like Genshin.
For real dude. Kuro copied entirety of each of Mihoyo's games, releasing each one about 3-4 years after Hoyo. I won't be surprised if we get a "Punishing: Solar Express" in 2027. I didn't think that's that bad, UNTIL I read Kuro's official corporate motto. Mihoyo's motto is "Tech Otakus save the World". Take a guess what is Kuro's? "Kuro saves Humanity" I cannot take a company seriously whose entire identity at its core is being a copy of the market leader, but slightly worse.
13:22 is the most important bit of the video. I've heard many bad and good things about the game. but personally, none of that matters. my experiences playing in the past few days have been a blast despite a few bugs here and there.
There is a youtube video by "Golden Owl" titled "Reasons why Genshin (and other games) DON'T let you skip cutscene", and I highly recommend you to check it out for reasons pretty explanatory by the title (also he mentioned why paimon repeats lines what is already said).
13:45 finally someone has said it. I don't care if dev did something 15 years ago, or if a game has some symbolism towards something negative. I just want to play games, not to care about polithics or moral wrongdoings of others. I play games to get away for a while from all this shit, not to dwelve even deeper into it.
9:27 I believe its looking more like its on a patch-by-patch cycle rather than monthly, as i remember it saying more than 30 days remaining for those pulls.
honestly as someone who started playing genshin when fontaine came out qnd regretting not being there when it was released it excites me to be able to get to know a game from the very beginning, and it excites me knowing that new characters are gonna appear, new quests, stories, world. just like how genshin went from 1.0 to the world in fontaine release. it excites me to be able to experience a game like wuwa growing to be a cool game like genshin and being there for it from the very start. cant wait to know where kuro games takes it
Even though I don’t agree with many things you’ve mentioned, but I respect your opinion Especially when you said “People shouldn’t defend Kuru” But then… You said that this is not a disastrous launch? Like… Dude… It has been days since launch and till a few hours ago my game still crashes I love the game and I’m lv 31 or 32 rn But the optimization is so fked up + No Ps4 or even Ps5 version ++ No controller support for phones?! While pc have it???
So glad you made this video. I personally am not super interested in WuWa, but I heard there was drama about it for some reason. It's good that you included the "gameplay is king" quote and that only a small minority of people actually follow gaming news/drama. The majority doesn't care. Also glad you shined a spotlight on the idea that competition is good. It's better for us, the consumer. Instead of hating on the game Genshin players should try it out. Considering I hear things about their game isn't that generous when it comes to getting free stuff. If they don't like it when they try it then that's fair. If they have no interest in playing WuWa at all that is also fair. Great video!
Your review of the game is very fare and very good. I hope you continue making fare reviews like this ❤ Btw have you heard about wuthering waves japan market disaster? I really suggest reading about it
I've put maybe 60-70 hours in wuwa now, maxed exploration and data bank all that. I know a few friends that have performance issues due to hardware, but it wasnt a problem for me personally. exploration still feels fulfilling, despite the increased movement potential, there is a chance that this is because chests feel a bit harder to find by the eye (but that could just be my eyesight declining). overall the launch of the game isn't as polished as it should be, but it's still a great experience, if you have the hardware to run it relatively smoothly of course. though currently, my main issue is definitely with progression and the availability of leveling materials. ESPECIALLY echo exp. it just feels very scarce, though it might still be a bit early to decide since most players are hovering level 20-30 and the amount of exp provided will increase with level. I haven't payed too much attention to the story, but so far huanglong seems to be very focused on world building and helping players understand the new environment. i can definitely see it improving throughout the patches. I do have pretty high standards for plots in games but thats mainly due to what a couple of gachas have shown me in the last few years. currently the story of wuwa isnt the strongest, but i can see it becoming something that is very immersive and interesting. PGR wasn't a game i played for too long, but with the way they handled player feedback there, im confident the game will see a lot of improvement over time, since right now, basically a new patch is being added every day. hope the devs are taking care of themselves the most if anything.
I was not hyped for WW but got disappointed nonetheless. I play most gacha games on an iPad, and sadly there is no controller support for WW on tablets, which kind of sucks because I am not a fan of finger stretching during gaming 🤷♀
I'm sorry but it gets good on episode 6 isn't a good enough excuse for stories, my time is worth more. The boring, hyper predictable story, is killing any enjoyment I get from the fun combat gameplay. Gameplay is cool, but the boring cookie cutter looking gacha characters, and boring story, are not cool. Combat is this game's biggest selling point, but oh boy do they do everything but let you fight in the first 3 hours. This game is rapidly death by 1000 cutting me. Don't get me started on the convoluted echo system. It's a step backwards, exchanging asset efficiency with no regards of player experience. It's the same grind we're all familiar with by now expect objectively worse. Genshin is a 7/10 game for me and WW is also a 7/10 game for different reasons. At the end I just slightly prefer Genshin, because it's a more streamlined experience with an experienced team behind it, that I've already invested in. This game much like Genshin was at launch is a comeback in a year and see type game for me. I have numerous other fun games to play. Wuthering Waves doesn't generate enough waves to jump ship for if you're already invested in another mobile action rpg.
Ofcourse genshin will be the winner for now, they literally had 3+ more years to cook their game to their satisfaction. (Not the same satisfaction with players tho.)
10:57 This! Idk if the story may or may not be good, if it's gonna be filled with bloat, like it always is, then I'm not interested. Then again, a quest archive would solve the issue of people wanting to look it up later. Like i may be free to play a game, but not free enough to sit through 20 minutes of a floating child talk. Options are always good. And hey, i bought the monthly welkin and battlepass too just to show some support to the devs...(and a few extra pulls and resources at the start of a super grindy game is always welcomed)
Superiority complex? When for months all I see is Genshin could never. I wouldn't say it was the Genshin side that has the superiority complex. I play both game and both are not my main game btw, before the bots start calling me hoyoshill.
Yeah i stopped playing genshin because i didnt want to get carpal tunnel from spamming through boring event and side stories. I dont mind reading the main story. In wuwa i spammed through the being story because i just wanted to play the game and see if i like it enough to get invested into the story. At level 21 i started to read it and kinda like it, but still just skip side quests stories while exploring.
You should make a video on Tokyo Debunkers since I was thinking of it while watching a couple of your videos since it would perfectly fit your usual content!!
WuWa is genshin but...well, there's no but, it's just genshin. At least as casual i barely saw any difference. Any changes are just minor details, if you ask me what it is in few words, I'd just say "it's just another genshin".
As an outside observer I couldn't tell the difference either lol 🤣 I kept getting confused why wuw had so much hype. It looks just like genshin the characters are the same safe designs there are none that are even remotely fanservicey. The gacha is the same 50/50 the world looks meh about the same. Story doesn't sound engaging. Like I never played genshin either but even I felt like this game looked to similar to stand on its own.
9:30 the limited exchange tickets aren't monthly like in genshin, they're per patch. Your footage also shows 38d left for the shop. But because we get 3 ticket types and 6 per, that still comes out as more tickets overall. Genshin gets 5 standard and 5 limited fates, so 30 over 3 months. WuWa gets 18 per patch, so 36 in 3 months.
If you like the game play it, I don’t like, the story didn’t have anything to hook me in and if I want an 3d action game with exploration I have much better options, Genshin came in a perfect storm so Wuwa never stood a chance to me.
Gonna be honest, yeah some things are valid, and yeah kuro hasnt had a good launch yet for any of their games, but believe me when I say just stick it out and let it speak for itself, it will shine

Funny how just the other day Mihoyo devs and employees were taking selfies with WuWa posters before it's release. Talent recognises talent. Kuro games and Mihoyo never showed themselves as rivals, it's the player base that just sets these arguements like little children fighting over whose toy car is better.
THIS because PGR is kuro's too we end up expect more in music departmen
It because majority of pgr is by vanguard studios, for wuwa it like majority of WuWa music team and then others on vanguard, though I do think overtime the music will get better
Just wanna add that the whining aix's mire bgm after you clear the mud storm is freaking beautiful tho.
also, the games bgm bugs out in certain areas so theres also that
I agree with you.

Genshin's OST on the other hand sounds like *Genshin.*
Like, you hear a Genshin track, you just know it's Genshin.

A good soundtrack during in & out of combat does leave a lasting impression, I want to be able to recognise a BGM even years after I stop playing that game.
its clear he got paid lmao
IIRC PGR music was outsourced and since WuWa is their first "fully independent game" I think they are doing the music in house. Some of it is nice and fitting but I agree they could stand to step it up a few degrees
i wanna play WuWa so badly but i CANT, i played for an hour and it was hurting my eyes with the blurry unoptimized graphics they gave lower end phones (+ the lag) a problem that i didnt have on genshin. im going to wait and see if they optimize the game better because it seems very fun

My only real issue with the combat so far is the strange lack of any feedback when you get hit. Maybe there's vibration feedback if you play with a controller or something, IDK, but I play on PC. There really needs to be some kind of sound effect for getting hit, or maybe some screen shake or something.
This would be helpful, I play with controller on PC and there isn't feedback for me. Idk about other platforms.
@maki0794
A game being free does not exempt it from criticism. Players invest their time and energy into playing it. If the game is poorly designed or has significant flaws, it wastes the player's time. Time is a resource even more important than money since it's something we won't get back and so players deserve a quality experience in exchange for their time.
@@maki0794 Do you really think companies put out "free" games with a cash shop expecting not to sell? this take is absolutely delusional.
I can't find myself playing a gacha long term with no attachment to any of the characters, no matter how great the gameplay.
what gatchas do you play then?
The issue with the Wuwa game is that its pretty laggy and compared to most games out there. This means that the other games that arent laggy has a better tchance of being played by more people than the laggy one.
And more players often translates to more profit for the game
Really really wished they fixed this before launch or ven thought of it running issues during the development phase.

Same with comparing a team making a game they're nor familiar with to one thats been making the same game (with other games teams and staff experience potentially) for 4 years isn't really fair. Like you wouldn't compare the quality of a AAA game to an indie one (hyperbole)
the shop reset is not monthly but every patches.
@@DaiPai1777 for the first 7-8 days wuwa made a total of around 50 mil or smin, source from various TH-camr (u can check tectons channel i remember him saying this) and some r/gachagaming posts. I'll say thts good enough for a game without the COVID buff, and it didn't cost wuwa like a billion dollar to make unlike genshin , so comparing their returns in this manner kinda don't make much sense.u should also factor in all the freebies tht they gave out which yes led to a earning tht is less but in the long run will attract more player i.e potential spender, And before u jump the gun, yinlins banner is still yet to come, which lets be real 100% gonna make more money than jiyans.cuz women sell more, let the game atleast cook for a patch before u act like it's over for them.
JP players ain't spending shit on this game anymore with how they got treated. CN players are pissed off and openly mocking for multiple reasons. WuWa will end up as PGR, unless they really right the ship soon.
@@SM-oc4rc yea sure
PGR I've played has a guaranteed gacha why kuro got rid of that to copy the genshin 50/50 is just retarded. Nikke and brown dust 2 were my first gacha games and it makes me appreciate how generous they are alot more
@@brendonbewersdorf986it because pgr gacha is not enough to make the cost of how much an open world produces and to be honest pgr gacha is an abnormallity it was never 100% when it first launched in cn, the reason it even there is due to a massive problem they had on launch in cn for pgr
@@zombie-bn4lz fair enough I guess I still hate the 50/50 and it makes pulling not even a fun experience. It's particularly bad in snowbreak because when you pull for characters you only get 1-2 characters out of a ten pull the rest are weapons for some asinine reason. When the game already has a separate freaking weapons banner. You can understand why they do it but it doesn't mean I have to like it or support it and I'm not spending my hard earned money on it
@@brendonbewersdorf986 There's a few little things that Nikke does that makes the gacha portion of the game pleasurable to interact with. Like the fact that every nearly non-collab character goes on the standard banner after their event.
I'm hyper sensitive to FOMO in the sense that, the moment I sense game companies trying to take advantage of it, I'm get violently repulsed, and I drop the game instantly.
It's not really standard lol, but it's not that bad, I guess
from my own experience wuwa was NOT ready to be released with its infinite glitches, there's some more subjective things like the fact that when the first location of the game is china it makes some problems, i don't have any problems with the region itself but it's rather the fact that the game should give a good first introduction: genshin gave us a basic medieval city with magic in fantasy setting - mondstadt, hsr literally begins in a space station, name a better location where you begin your journey in a science fiction world, and then we have wuwa with post apocalyptic china
thus so far i have tof flashbacks:
- being hyped up as a genshin killer but turning out to just be an OK game that can't compete with hoyo (you say tof marketed itself as a competitor to genshin while wuwa didn't but other people under your video about tof already explained otherwise)
- niche colour palette / open world design
- relatively often appearing dry en voice acting
- bugs which make your gameplay experience straight up horrible, they did fix _most_ of them but i don't understand why they didn't have a third cbt or at least had more time fixing the game BEFORE its release
and about the competition - wuwa is straight up not genshin's competitor, it has to do with their core gameplay and playerbase focus: as you said when mentioning dodging mechanics, they're targeted at more casual players who are not tryhards and usually will spend 5 minutes in a game a day at most, since it doesn't take long to spend all your daily in-game energy and do your dailies (kinda like hsr but it's a fundamentally different game though), and more importantly echoes gacha makes it easier to get what you need meaning it's very easy to get bored if you're spending a lot of time in the game, in other words - you don't have to delete genshin to play wuwa, meaning hoyo don't care
Wait what’s wrong with the fact that it starts in China? I’m not planning to argue or anything, but can you elaborate on why starting in “post-apocalyptic China” is sorta strange?
@@lilpudding3428 as i said it fails to introduce you to the world if you begin with such a niche topic, genshin is a magic fantasy game and you can see it from the very beginning, hsr is a techy space game and you can see it from the very beginning, but as a newcomer to wuwa i played for a while and still don't understand what this game is about, there are guns but then there is magic, but they don't even explain if it's magic or some technological super stuff... the only thing i get is that characters' powers come from their resonance marks which i straight up can't comprehend, just give this game a topic, i am fine if this game has a very niche setting but then i don't think you can call it a genshin competitor due to how different their targeted playerbase would be
@@lilpudding3428 china-like aren't really friendly for global players - most game would ease u in typical European / medieval environment 1st. Doesn't help that's it started with lore + jargon dumps as well
@@ars-br1ms That is very true, it is very niche.
It’s story is more complete, yet it could’ve been better if some pathetic kids from CN did not complain about how “the characters are so aggressive” and how they “can’t get immersed because they want their self insert to be greeted like a GOD!”
Anyhow, thank you for clearing your case up a tad bit! Love ya mate!
@@zaixanar I guess China still exists on this floating ball called earth? Honestly, I feel like the first region is just to cater to the Chinese for now. However, have you heard of the New Federation? It will be based on more European themes and hopefully more “technologically advanced” themes later on.
I think what is actually king is marketing and word of mouth.
great example is witcher 3, the game has one of the more subpar gameplay in an RPG. great marketing, lore, story and music made the game one the greatest games of all time
I think good gameplay leads to word of mouth but those are definitely more important.
Hyperdimension Neptunia comes to mind when I read your comment. It may not be a big IP and the gameplay were pretty bad but it manage to have several followup releases.
I think Josh's quote was referring to gameplay as the game's whole experience not just the moment to moment gameplay.
Yeah...😢
(For the record I understand why this happens, just irritated from devs being overworked and marketing pushing the release dates when the game is half cooked, and it being the norm. It would've been better if we got the game later and it would have good optimization, instead of them doing damage control after damage control)
They're are plenty of ps1, ps2 and xbox games with TONS of bugs and low fps but couldnt patch back then. Think a little bit yer?
Ironic that the music is some mid garbage when the lore is all about it ☠
Honestly i think WUWA the best aspects of TOF with Genshin's, TOF's combat was pretty cool but it lacked any defensive input apart from the dodge mechanic which got old pretty fast.
Seriously tof felt like an auto open world due to the mechanics and the equipment overloaded w random stats.. and the 4 stars lacked any real character to them which is a shame.
it's just honkai impact 3rd in genshin world
If I remember correctly I read that they already recouped their losses from development, if that is true than Wuwa is already a huge success.
You dont need extensive knowledge on music to tell that wws music is very forgettable
Sure inferno riders music is trash🤡
@mystic_dil who?

_That's_ how you do video game dialogue right.
tell that to kurostans or hoyostans. In their eyes, the story is either not the main focus of the game or you just have ADHD...
Players like you -- those with second accounts, or those who don't want to see the story even once -- are not "average first-time players".
i just wanna skip non voiced side npc quests
I think skip buttons are ok the issue is that there's no archive feature to re-check it.
What I mean is, when you select a song for particular situation, you should make it possible for a layman to notice the song theme start playing at least.
dubstep music in a flower shop seems hardcore
TL;DR - stop forcing you music tastes on others. do not compare 1.0 wuwa to 1.0 genshin cuz we should learn from others mistakes, instead of repeatjng them.
we rlly got a wuwa video before a pgr one
You are right. I love project gotham racing
For real 😭
Genshin is just so exhausting and tiring meanwhile wuwa is just chill for me
Same. But I think genshin is now more of a different genre tho. The worldbuilding and story telling of genshin is on another level. Now i treat genshin as a visual novel accompanied by free open world roaming with a side of combat, that's all
@@bang-naim i was about to say that, genshin is a visual novel at this point

Very nice review, really enjoyed listening to your thoughts about WUWA.
1 hour? maybe? the optimization was an ABSOLUTE MESS, i dont have that bad of a pc, its quite decent, but not being able to get even 30 fps at the LOWEST settings was atrocious. the voice quality was all over the place. some characters are voiced perfectly in my opinion (scar my beloved) and some were, just, not good man. yangyang was especially a great offender of this. it sounded like everytime she spoke it was asmr, which i HATED. i did hear ppl having issues with female rovers voicelines especially in the scar cutscene however i picked male rover and he did a pretty good job tbh. moving on from optimization and voice issues, trying to level echoes feels atrocious. you get so many echoes form just playing, but the resources required to level said echoes are very VERY scarce, youre gonna spend alot of time on just echoes, which i dont really think is a good thing. and the fact that the overworld bosses, weekly bosses, and echo fields all cost a whopping 60 waveplates also feels really bad, since you feel like youre barely making any progress every time you log in. i know this game has just released, and i know kuro games will eventually fix probably most of the issues that we have, but i do feel they shouldve taken a little more time in developing the game so that it was more finished on launch. i have high hopes for this game, the highs are really high but the lows are so many it kinda drags down the experience. great video psy!
does your pc meet the minimum requirements?
He already made plans to release the gacha review about the game which was made from the same dev team: World Flippers
@avfxz my pc which is 20 percent shy of reccomended, couldn't hit 30 low at launch, and now it can hit 40-60 lowest settings 720p.
Bro is yapping 😂😅
Bro made a book
The important things to note here are:
I will redownload when they fix optimization. If they can...
is it really that bad? My phone is pretty old so it runs not great for me but is it really that bad on PC and better phones?
i have a iphone 10 it runs perfectly fine for me no fps issues barely any bugs except for climbing sometimes

say what you want but scar monologue was amazing i just stayed there listening a great villain hope to see more of him
The way he told about the sheep and the Shepard story was creepy 😮
I still find him more like a goofball than a actual villain. Like did he really expect us to join him after listening to that Sheep and Shepard story.
Good news he should be playable
His Eng VA did a great job, I haven't seen it in other languages but he really went full ham in the eng dub which I loved.
@@theusernameyouwanted yeah i'm playing in english as well
Yeah, every time I get a survey in Nikke, I always rewind that I don't read anything outside the game, I don't pay attention to socials, and I don't care about marketing events. That part by Josh strife Hayes is on point
"the story gets better later"... i suppose a non-sensical to a boring story is considered as an improvement.
Was with you until your music argument. Wuwa's ost is just so dull...
love the detailed review keep it up
Music for me has been weird and inconsistent.
They're shatting on WuWa for flaws and issues that also existed in Genshin 1.0 until 1.4, but got ultimately called out by other GI players for their bs and attempt to rewrite history.
ikr people are thinking way too black and white about this😭😭
especially since hoyoverse and kuro games are perfectly chill and have nothing against eachother
@@columbinadamselettefan Well the difference is that Kuro has clear Dev. communication (player feedback) while Hoyo only does that when there is competition.
@@ANoobInvoid the game just came out, its only fair to wait a bit more time before comparing how they respond to player feedback
@@ANoobInvoid "Kuro has clear Dev. communication (player feedback"
> While the game riddled with bugs and dogshjt story, echos AFTER CBT2 FEEDBACK.
@@jaelon0983 ofcourse there are. It looks just like genshin afterall.

"Kuro saves Humanity"
I cannot take a company seriously whose entire identity at its core is being a copy of the market leader, but slightly worse.
I play games to get away for a while from all this shit, not to dwelve even deeper into it.
i dont know why we had to go so long without someone saying this. most people don't seem to realize that games are an escapism for some.
9:27 I believe its looking more like its on a patch-by-patch cycle rather than monthly, as i remember it saying more than 30 days remaining for those pulls.
honestly as someone who started playing genshin when fontaine came out qnd regretting not being there when it was released it excites me to be able to get to know a game from the very beginning, and it excites me knowing that new characters are gonna appear, new quests, stories, world. just like how genshin went from 1.0 to the world in fontaine release. it excites me to be able to experience a game like wuwa growing to be a cool game like genshin and being there for it from the very start. cant wait to know where kuro games takes it
Even though I don’t agree with many things you’ve mentioned, but I respect your opinion
Especially when you said “People shouldn’t defend Kuru”
But then… You said that this is not a disastrous launch?
Like… Dude… It has been days since launch and till a few hours ago my game still crashes
I love the game and I’m lv 31 or 32 rn
But the optimization is so fked up
+ No Ps4 or even Ps5 version
++ No controller support for phones?!
I hope you continue making fare reviews like this ❤
Btw have you heard about wuthering waves japan market disaster? I really suggest reading about it
Glad to see you playing WuWa, looking forward to the review :)
Music take is hilariously awful, like holy shit, but overall a great video
The game is great but its totally unplayable on my device lmao
For now...
I really don’t think it’s a coincidence that the resin cap on genshin was increased to 200 soon after WuWa’s release.
Wuthering Waves doesn't generate enough waves to jump ship for if you're already invested in another mobile action rpg.
bro
it's just the beginning of the story ofo it will not included Unexpected plot twist
My biggest problem for the story is no real end goal. In GI the end goal is to find and reunited with our sibling.
Gonna be honest, yeah some things are valid, and yeah kuro hasnt had a good launch yet for any of their games, but believe me when I say just stick it out and let it speak for itself, it will shine
so how much did kuro pay for this, the music argument is so bad its actually shilling territory. Literally gaslighting people "uh who are you to judge music? maybe its good but you're too shit for it"
the innability to comprehend the subjectivity of music tastes is what is truly shilling
