Funny to hear a Yankee play this song, but hell, I salute you for playing it up there 😂😂😂 Thanks! It actually means a lot to us down here and it doesn’t have anything to, for us, with anything other than southern pride.
@dfirth224 Absolutely ! In fact, check out some of my other entries here on the Victrolaman Channel and you will see and hear Berliner flat disc records from as far back as 1895. Where are you getting your information from ? Thanks for watching. Victrolaman
@victrolaman I guess I stand corrected. I read someplace the flat discs first appeared in Germany about 1915. The inventor had a friend in the clothing button business. He asked his friend if he thought phonograph records could be stamped out like buttons. The rest, as they say, is history. Thanks for the info!
You are quite Correct the American Quartet beginning in 1901 : Members were Tenors Albert C. Campbell & W. T. Leahy, baritone S. H. Dudley, and bass William F. Hooley. By August 31, 1904, this quartet's records were no longer listed, and any of its titles remaining in the catalog were remakes by the Haydn Quartet. When the American Quartet with Murray was formed in 1909, the tenor must have seemed very young to other members--he was 31. Bieling was almost 40; Porter was 44; and Hooley was 47.
@kirtley2010 Whoops, I am sorry, did I say Berliner Record ? this a a pre dog Victor. and yes, these come up for sale on ebay as well. just follow the same instructions as with the Berliner auctions. Victrolaman
@kirtley2010 Of Course there is a chance. Berliner records are offered quite frequently on ebay and other on-line auction sites. You need to put in a search for Berliner Record, and then save it. That way, Ebay will notify you every time Berliner Records come up for auction. Victrolaman
@kirtley2010 Of course there is a chance, there is always a chance, but then you would have to find one in playable condition as well ! This one is very close to being pristine for that era, and then there is the issue of cost for one of these, and that is a whole other issue. What would you be willing to pay to acquire one in this sort of condition. They are not easy to find, and when you do, you should expect to pay accordingly for one of these ancient Historical Icons. Good Luck!
The song " by the beatiful sea" is my favorite song. This song in this video is a good song too.but I have a question, where do you buy the gramophones. the records are all still in good conditionand phonographs. One Grammophone is very expensive.
Exceptional recording for 1901, incredible actually!
Very clear recording for 1901!
This little machine has a remarkably warm sound, considering that there is no tone-arm!
Magic!
Very unusual player, and I really like the details you provide to the history behind the recording.
0:57 is the song.
Amazing how it’s held up in the 108 years from the recording of the rendition to this video, from a song recorded 100 years before I was born.
@thehouseofmao Thank you for your comment. These pre-dog records are not easy to find in this sort of condition. Glad you enjoyed it.
Victrolaman
How has it held up so well after a century and some years?
Awesome !
Thank you for the experience.
Very interesting intro and what a remarkable record player and the sound is astonishingly good, really enjoyed this post.

How are you Bruce?
Hearing the voices of people who died hundreds of years ago.
its not 100s it is about a 100
Well, 100, technically 😁 though the point stands. What a miraculous invention, yes?
I thought flat records didn't come out until 1915. Are you sure the 1901 date is correct?
Are you serious or is this a joke
I have a couple dozen of Berliner Gramophone "flat records" . The oldest is 1898.
@@brockshields9336 can you try to upload them please
Sorry, I'm not computer literate enough. I've never done an upload in my life.
@@brockshields9336 don't worry, it is no big deal. There are many berliners on TH-cam anyway
