It's praiseworthy to have tourists like yourself who go an extra mile in keeping our sea clean by even cleaning someone else's garbage. Thank you and have a nice time in Croatia :D

8:45 One of the biggest bivalve molluscs in the Mediterranean Sea. We call it Periska (Pinna nobilis). Can grow up to 120 cm.
From 2020 is in danger of extinction. Strict protected!

      Unfortunately it doesn't look alive.

Ante, thank you for the info. We heard from a biologist friend who said the same about possible extinction. That would be such a shame.

      We think so too.

@@sailingblackbird922 Sadly, we are literally talking about only a several still living, that have been extracted and are kept in a controlled environment, as seen on TV.
We had a lot of them strewn across the bottom in a bay on Korčula in the 80-ies. Not a single one now. Only a dolphin wanders inside from time to time that can scare kids who think it's a shark. And no more vipers either. That's not so sad. :-)

We actually saw a shark while sailing near Vis! And dolphins several times but can’t remember where. Glad I didn’t see a viper :)

the thing you touched underwater and asked what is it is an endemic type of shell called a Perisca.
    (Pinna nobilis).
Due to the viral disease that destroys them they are very rare and protected. The penalties for removing them are very high. ( up to 30000 kunas- roughly about $ 4,700).
If any control found the shell on board it would be difficult to prove that it was dead when you took it so it is better not to touch it, alive or dead.

Thanks Beppo! You always have super helpful comments. Would not consider ever removing them. Hope they make a recovery in the seas.

Its good, that you are here. We need the energy you transmit from the Adriatic sea!
As an old Adriatic sailor let me suggest some places, to visit on the way up to nord:
    - Skradin and the Krka waterfall - its also nice to stay ovenight,
    - Kornat islands - especially Piskera, an ACI marina, where you can feel the energy flow of the place sitting on a bench below the shower building facing to the boats.
    - Zadar is nice Venetian city.
    - Otocic Donji Skolj is a nice anchor place, you can see 1 m high mussels, while diving. Its a nice walk to Telascica National Park lake.
    - Mali Losinj is a nice Venetian style city aswell Rab too.
    - Behind the Rab island on the continent (Uvala Zavtranica) there is a submerged 2WW german submarine service station and a nice place to stay.
    And many more!
l hope l could helped a little bit, to discover the islands and collect good feelings and memories.

Thanks Józef! I commend you being an old Adriatic sailor. We sure could have used your advice many times. We appreciate all the suggestions but we have to head back to Greece. The north looks amazing and hopefully we can visit again. We sure learned a lot about sailing while here.

Are you the same ones who accused Croatian police for bribe? What are you doing here in this 'bad' country, looking for 'no charge' enjoyment, again? Shame on you LIARS, LIARS.
We don't need this kind of shameless liars in our beautiful country. I wish you all the best, out of our beautiful Croatia.

    • @sailingblackbird922
      @sailingblackbird922  3 ปีที่แล้ว

No, we have never said anything like that and that has not been our experience from any Croatian police. They have all treated us very well.

@@sailingblackbird922 OK, I'm very sorry for mistake and please receive my sincere apology. There was a couple on similar boat also coming from Greece, spreading lies about Croatian police and Croatia as a country, once again sorry for mistake, have a nice time and all the best.
