One thing that I think really has helped the N64 and GC receive a cult like following is the fact that these two systems are arguably some of the best systems to play with friends and family. Having 4 controller ports right out of the box, and plenty of fun 4 player games was awesome. I still to this day enjoy playing Smash, Mario Party, and Mario Kart with my cousins on these systems.
Absolutely! Multiplayer and gaming in general is such a insular activity nowadays. Multi taps were like gold when I was a kid. Weekends after school were so good because when someone got a multi tap from their parents, we'd descend on that house, we'd bring enough pop and sweets to make a diabetic sweat, order pizza, and stay up all night playing games. Online play can never compete with that.
Fair play to you my friend, such an in depth documentary, I enjoy all your documentary videos on gaming consoles and if they're worth playing still, but this one has to be my favourite. I find it saddening that great content like this doesn't get the exposure it rightfully deserves, this is extremely interesting and truly unique content and is something you won't find anywhere else these days and yet there's half arsed videos put out on popular gaming topics which has been uploaded countless times before and it'll blow up, I find it very disappointing to say the least. I really enjoy your videos, the documentaries in particular are almost like works of art and as someone who loves older game systems, this is among the best sit back and watch entertainment out there (including sports, movies ect, not just TH-cam). Criminally underrated and underappreciated content and congrats for staying true to yourself and not going for the easy option of gaining more money and subscribers, success isn't always determined by numbers, but by integrity. Keep up the fascinating content, Rich!
Actually there are quite a few good Wii games out there, they are just hidden under tons and tons of horrible shovelware. E.g. Geometry Wars Galaxies is brilliant (I bought the Wii and a Nintendo DS just for this game - the only Nintendo devices I own). House of the Dead - Overkill is great (albeit inferior to the PS3 version of course), GunBlade NY/LA MachineGuns is a system exclusive double pack of two tunnel shooters ported from the arcade, which can be had for 2 bucks now, Big Brain Academy and Mensa Academy are quite good if you are into this type of stuff, Mad World is an game with absolutely unique kind of Sin City-like black/white/red graphic style and excessive over the top violence ... i love it. Red Steel is quite entertaining, and so is No More Heroes, Epic Mickey is not bad and I personally like the Trauma Center series. There are more. Of course the amount of good games is still small compared to what you have on any Playstation or XBox system (no matter what generation), and overall the Wii is of couse a terrible system, but under the big pile of ugly shit targeted at kids, there are some very good system exclusives hidden. You just need to dig a little bit.
The comment about milenials, this is their nostalgia beginning to kick in about their childhood gaming on the game cube and hold it dear as we do the snes/megadrive or mastersystem etc. So even if the gamecube is not the greatest nintendo system ever it is extra special to them.
I can't decide if I like PS2 or GameCube more. After school my mate and I would go to his house to play GameCube, or mine to play PS2. It was a way more social way to play multiplayer than online is now. I have a feeling that when I'm about 80 this is gonna be something I lecture grandchildren about.
12:06 CRAZY THING, The Dreamcast had 8MB of video memory when it was released in 1998 and in 2000 when the PS2 came out it had 4MB of video memory. one of the reason PS2 games always have this weird grainy look or do not look as sharp as Dreamcast games.
This man makes me proud to be a gamer enthusiast, collector you sir deserve one damn good (insert somthing you like). To be honest you are the most honest reviewer(for lack of a better term). Keep up the awesome work i hope you spawn many followers/successors and children
Quality Video, I really like how you go in-depth and explore the details, some videos of this type aren't as interesting, but you keep the whole video entertaining and informative at the same time. Simply awesome!
Nintendo Gamecube was my most played console as a kid. I beat Paper Mario the Thousand Year Door and Luigis Mansion a ton of times. Pokemon xd gale of darkness, Sunshine, Double dash, Fzero gx, Tales of Symphonia, and Melee were my favorite gamecube games.
Everyone feels nostalgic for the console they had as a kid. Even though I don't feel any real attachment to the Game Cube, I still have to admit that it had a lot of cool looking games that weren't remade. As much as I liked the Wii U, I think it has a rather sad fate of obscurity considering it's library is being completely strip mined for the Switch.
Always worth playing GameCube. Wavebird & Luigis Mansion alone. Fantastic system and the last time Nintendo went toe to toe on graphics. Beating PS2 for sure. Grab a wii and component it and damn GameCube looks great.
Gamecube is one of my favourite consoles ever. Great exclusives, one of the best controllers and gadgets you can hook up with it (GB Player, GBA->GC Cable). I bought mine in 2007, when gamecube was just discontinued on stores, i bought second hand RE4 bundle with TLOZ: Twilight Princess and got MGS: The Twin Snakes from my cousin for loan. These are one of my favourite Gamecube games, especially MGS: The Twin Snakes. I have gathered almost all best exclusives for this console by now and i play my gamecube very often. For Resident Evil fan boy as myself, this is the best consoles for these games because all the best games in the series where released on this platform( 0, 1, 2, 3, Code Veronica and 4). Gamecube has really special place in my heart :)
This is one of my top two favorite systems ever along with the original NES. Ridiculous amount of good games. I can't think of anything on the PS2 or Xbox I wanted. Dreamcast had some of my love at the time though.
When the gamecube launched I was still loving my N64 and the great games it had to offer and only picked one up in 2004 when I saw them on offer in asda, the console was £50, extra controllers were £15 and the Rgb scart was £10. So that was £75 spent total. (I think I also picked up a memory card for a fiver too). At the time it felt that most people were not into it and it was pretty much dead, but coming from n64 (which I only bought in late 98) it was awesome. I loved luigi's mansion which was a nice break from the norm and loved mario sunshine too as it felt like a natural progression and I enjoyed the story and setting. Double dash grew on me after not liking double carts at first, and then there was resi 4 and metroid prime. The starfox games were a bit of a let down. Super smash bros was awesome as we're a lot of the other nintendo games of which I cold go on and on (zelda, f zero etc etc. I remember picking up a gameboy player from gamestation pre-owned but boxed as new condition for £15! Great times and great system.
My brother got a Nintendo Game Cube specifically to play Resident Evil 4, it blew me away seeing that game in action. Unfortunately I was to young to play that game at the time, didn't stop me watching my brother play it though.
I think the main thing that defines a great console is it's games. Super Mario Sunshine, Super Smash Bros: Melee, The Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, Metal Gear Solid; The Twin Snakes, Metroid Prime, Metroid Prime 2, Resident Evil Remake, Resident Evil Zero and Resident Evil 4. Even though Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3 Nemesis, Resident Evil Code Veronica X, Sonic Mega Collection, The Legend of Zelda Collection not to mention the Gameboy player. So yeah i think its one of the best consoles of all time. It just sucks that it didn't sell as well as it should of.
Agreed, Gamecube should have outsold Xbox, yet didn't for some reason. I blame Microsoft's "Nintendo is for little kids campaign" which clearly was never true. Legend of Zelda & Metroid series for example, as well as the fact that Gamecube had plenty of Teen & Mature games. PS2 only won the Gen6 Console wars because it doubled as a DVD player. Sony had some good exclusives for PS2, although multiplatform games generally would play worse on PS2 than they would on other Gen6 consoles.
I know you probably hate me by now...but I still think you undervalue the GameCube my overseas friend. I AM NOT saying it's the greatest console ever but it's certainly at least one of Nintendo's better (or best) home consoles. Overall the GameCube was a big improvement over the N64. It took what the 64 was and did (3D gaming) and simply refined it. Sure Sunshine wasn't quite as great as M64, sure SF Adventures & Assault weren't as great as Lylat Wars (or SF64), but the GameCube's library has more variety overall and is a MUCH more playable console today and this more than makes up for that. From Gotcha Force, Custom Robo, Dreamcast ports (like Ikaruga, SkiesoA), Metroid, Fire Emblem, Pikmin, Eternal Darkness, Animal Crossing, superior N64 sequels like Rogue Squadron 2-3, 1080 Avalanche, Poke Coliseum etc, actual JRPGS like Tales of Symphonia, and Baten Kaitos. It had much better 3rd party support and vastly superior performance & graphics in games. Though I must admit I am bias, most of my top 10 games of all-time are GC games, 1# being F-Zero GX, the best arcade racer ever developed imho brilliant masterpiece, 100s of hrs spent mastering that game. Also Timesplitters 2, Smash Melee, M Prime, MGS Twin Snakes etc, I love the thing just as much as the Gen/MD, Snes, and GBA (my fav consoles so far) and I am almost 30 so you can't hit me with the young hipster crap lol.
Valiant, for sure man, I agree with that, Snes best 2D, Gc best 3D, I can never decide which is better overall, when including the international library I usually lean Snes.Only reason I didn't mention Viewiful Joe and Okami was because they were multiplatform (but technically so is MGS and the DC games so I kinda cheated anyway lol)
Disagree. GameCube ain’t a bad system. But the exclusives aren’t as good/memorable as the N64 games. Ocarina of Time & Super Mario 64 are very very good games for the system it’s on. Also the GameCube follow the problems of N64 at that the disc storage is limited yet again to only 1.5 gen compared to 4gb on PS2 & 8gb for Original Xbox. Atleast it’s a bit powerful than PS2 (which all 6th gen consoles including it, Xbox, and Dreamcast (being only on market for 2 years) has more horse power than PS2)
Braxton, how "good or "memorable" a game is, is totally subjective. M64 and Ocarina are certainly more iconic than Sunshine and Windwaker, but Melee, Metroid Prime and F-Zero GX are just as "good" or iconic to alot of people. Overall the Gamecube library is objectively larger and inarguably has more variety. The mini-discs is a very exaggerated issue brought about by mainstream youtubers and opinionated folk, it wasn't a big deal in practice during the era. The 1.5 discs may be alot less than the Ps2/XB dvd, but it was still more than twice as much data as a last gen Ps1 disc, 500 megs greater than the DC disc, and 150+ times more than an anemic 8mb N64 cart and thus it still received the sheer majority of the big AAA games because it had adequate storage, plus we got noticeably faster load times to boot. Sure normal dvd playback would have been best, but it wasn't as bad as everyone would have you believe and the AAA 3rd party games speak for that.
Only a small handful of games used the 32 & 64 cart size when it became available at the tailend of the N64's lifespan in 1999-2000. The more memory, the more expensive the cart, so only a few devs were willing to use them (like Capcom with RE2). In 1996, M64 and Pilotwings was on a 4mb cart and the majority of the 300+ games in its library, used a 4,8 or the 16mb cart which was a little less common (that's why I used 8 for the comparison). 1.5 gb is still 23 times more than 64mg and 49 times more than 32 (if you want exact numbers).
Eternal Darkness and Super Mario Sunshine are great Game Cube exclusives that never got ported or sequels. I got a cheap Wii so we’d still be able to play those games. My son stuck his finger in our GameCube knocking the laser out of alignment. I’ve heard that it’s a common problem. Hopefully we’ll get a N64 Classic followed by a GameCube Classic mini so I won’t have to play on old hardware forever.
Maybe this is mental acrobatics but to me the Gamecube actually sold 134 million total because technically the Wii was an upgraded Gamecube with motion controls, making it the second best selling console of all time behind the PS2.
I'd like another DoubleDash! Would love to see that racing mechanic refined, loved the fact every character had their own special item, using your partner to drift boost, take items from other racers, swith from driver to passenger to use a better item.. we used to have Lan parties back then and this game was the most played! We had solo races and co-op races alot of wild drunken nights!! As for the gamecube I feel it's the last home console to get great 3rd party support Resident Evil 0&4, Wwe WM 18&19, Wwe Day of Reckoning1&2, Viewtiful Joe 1&2, all the sports games were good to great (Nhl Hitz MLB Slugfest/MVP, NBA street2&3, Nfl/Ncaa 2k, Nfl blitz/street 1&2) the gamecube was a genre changer for Big Ns games: Mario Sunshine, Wind Waker, Metroid Prime, Star Fox adventures&assault, F-Zero GX (made by SEGA!) all were showing that Big N can still create innovative games with tried and true characters, though back then it wasn't as well received at the time, now looking back I've felt the quality of gamecube beats N64 Wii (shovelware) and Wii U and Switch as well ( Wii U ports galore so far need to see more than Odyssey Arms Splatoon 2) Just for fun top Big N home consoles 1SNES, 2Gamecube, 3NES, 4 Wii U (it has backwards compatibility with wii &gamecube, most of it's best games have been ported to Switch, still has better features than the switch.. web browser, no silly app for voice chat.. 5N64 but will admit the switch more than likely passes Wii U in a few more years. Peace and happy gaming
I find it ironic he claimed Double Dash was too easy, as it was 1 of the harder titles in the Mario Kart series. No matter how hard I tried I could never clear the 150cc All Cup Tour. I must have had well over 200 failed attempts.
I remember getting a game called Cel Damage for Christmas. For its time it was a fun vehicle combat game which was the main reason why I kept my GameCube for year after.
these vids seem so click baity, but then you watch them and I feel bad for even thinking that. They are brilliant. Love the history and all the info you pack in, these vids rule.
How can you not cover Resident Evil IV? The Gamecube version looked much better and this was the first playable Resident Evil game, especially the bonus arcade challenge, due to weapons selection functions Capcom put in there. Was a real thorne in the side for PS2 fanboys that RE4 looked better and ran just as smoothly on GC haha. Probably did for the Gamecube sales in the UK what Sega Rally and Virtua Fighter II did for disappointing Saturn sales for Sega. The Gamecube was technically about half way between Xbox and PS2, with Baldur's Gate on GC you had the higher resolution of the Xbox version but the frame rate was not as smooth as the Xbox or PS2 (which had slightly lower quality graphics)
Really informative video, I especially enjoyed how you linked the N64 histories with GameCube. The Nintendo GameCube really was this bright, fun beacon of light in the middle of a grubby console war where everything else felt super dark and depressing. Sure, the PS2 and Xbox had online and dvd playability but it wasn't for me. Some of my favorite games for the system are: Mario Kart, F-Zero GX, Soul Calibur 2, Animal Crossing, Donkey Konga Jungle Beat and Twilight Princess.
you kinda hit the nail on the head except that the two franchises you discounted (RE and Metroid Prime) were huge titles for that system. Buying RE4 on release day was a huge day for me in gaming. the remake of the original RE was again an amazing exclusive for the system. I feel you saying that "I'm not affected by jump scares" made you miss out on (imo) some of the best games on the system are misplaced. Both those games offer top-shelf gameplay and for the time cutting edge graphics. I hope you go back and play them because they're both worth the time. Peace! - a 33 year old gamer
Resident Evil 4 was such an awesome GameCube exclusive! I remember bragging to my mates who were completely jealous they couldn't play it because they all had a PS2! They Sony made a worse port with boring extra content, and I couldn't brag any more. Thanks Sony... you couldn't let Nintendo have that one!
I've used the exact same analogy regarding Mario 64 being the biggest, "Wow moment" I first played it... however building a newer PC last year (*For the first time), getting a higher end GPU (*1080ti), and monitor (*X34 - Now AW34 @ 120hz) was a similar experience.
Not the "Best", but honestly as a 27 year old citizen of the United States, I have to say the Gamecube will always be among my list of favorite consoles.
The Gamecube's library is insanely good: Mario Sunshine, Super Smash Brothers Melee, Mario Kart Double Dash, Zelda Wind Waker, Zelda Twilight Princess, Metroid Prime, Metroid Prime 2, Resident Evil Remake, Resident Evil 0, Resident Evil 4, Eternal Darkness, Skies of Arcadia, Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2, Pikmin, Pikmin 2, Metal Gear Solid Twin Snakes, Paper Mario Thousand Year Door, Super Monkey Ball, F-Zero GX, Fire Emblem Path of Radiance, Mario Golf, Mario Tennis, Mario Baseball, Mario Soccer, Tales of Symphonia, Animal Crossing, Baten Kaitos, Viewtiful Joe, Soul Caliber 2, Luigi's Mansion, Wave Race Blue Storm, Phantasy Star Online 1&2, Crazy Taxi, Star Wars Rogue Leader, Prince of Persia Sand of Time, Battalion Wars... and those are just off of the top of my head. It may not be as exceptional as the NES, SNES, PS1, or PS2, but imo it's right below those systems along with the Genesis/Megadrive, PS3, and XBOX360, and above such systems as the N64, Xbox, Wii, Wii U, Saturn, Dreamcast, and Master System.
I basically only played SOCOM and SOCOM 2 us navy SEALs during PlayStation 2. I loved those games. Online tactical shooters. I miss those types of games.
I got the Nintendo🎮GameCube on Christmas🎄day🎁2001...🤗 I was very excited because I also got three games to go along with it, and they were Pikmin, Luigi's Mansion, Super Smash Bros. Melee...👌🏼 My mom and dad ended up getting mad at me because I didn't wanna play anything else except the Super Smash Bros...but I couldn't help it, it was just so fun...🤷♂️
Metal Gear Solid - Twin Snakes, Resident Evil, Eternal Darkness, Super Monkey Ball, Timesplitters 2 and the free Zelda Collection on DD all made me more than happy with my purchase.
The commercials for the Gamecube are very interesting for a console with such a cartoony and colourful library. Dark techno music, a goth woman, people more wary than blown away, goat horns. I wonder what was going on there.
I can't help but to think that these days the only reason to own a Game Cube is the Game Boy Player... Fortunately, there's a work-around now that allows you to use the add-on without the included disc, and it even offers a superior experience with a more proper-looking 240p resolution, as opposed to the blurry 480i you get with the official disc! And yeah, playing your handheld games on the TV is a pretty neat thing to have, but if you just wanna play Game Cube games, you're *much* better off getting yourself a Wii... First off, the Game Cube's AV signal is rubbish, it overblows the colours and smears the textures to the point where they're barely even visible anymore, you can only get a decent image out of the system with the uncommon and expensive Component cables, meanwhile the Wii is fully backwards compatible with the Cube, its AV signal is much, MUCH better, in fact, it's one of the best and cleanest composite signals I've ever seen, but composite can only ever get so good, and that's where the Wii's Component cables come in, they're pretty cheap and readily available, and they offer the cleanest and most beautiful image you can get off of real Game Cube hardware! (I mean, c'mon, the Wii is just a beefed-up Game Cube anyway) Secondly: The Wii is dirt-cheap, and it's *everywhere!* Thirdly: With a Wii you get not only the Game Cube's library that you want, but you also open yourself up to the honestly *far superior* Wii's Library, the Wii had not only Nintendo's strongest 1st Party since the N64, but also a surprising amount of quality 3rd-Party exclusives, some superior versions of Game Cube games (Such as Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, Resident Evil 4 and the Pikmin games) and even the best selection of retro games ever sold on a digital storefront in the form of the Virtual Console! Not to mention some pretty neat smaller downloadable games in the form of Wiiware... Fourthly: The Wii is easily hackable, and one hell of an emulation machine, which opens up the doors to even more games that weren't available on the Virtual Console, as well as homebrew games like source ports of DOOM and Quake! In short, if you get a Game Cube you're paying more for less games and a worse image, and maybe the ability to play your Game Boy games... Meanwhile if you get a Wii, you're paying less for more games, better games, a better image, and you only miss out on playing Game Boy games on the TV... Which you could easily remedy by getting an emulator for that...
And that's a fair opinion to have, but it doesn't change the fact that the Wii is a better console than the Game Cube, I mean, it's basically a better, cheaper and more capable Game Cube, and if you have one, you have access to both libraries and then some...
The Wii not having Broadband Adapter support isn't that much of a lost. I will say 8 player Mario Kart Double Dash is amazing, but setting it up and finding people to play meant I've only done it like 5 times. Kirby Air Ride is one I want to try, but the game is quite expensive now, it's not worth it. It would be cheaper to get 2-4 SD Media Card Loaders. From what I understand, each person would get their own full screen. 1080° Avalanche does support it, but seems very underwhelming according to this website: gamecube.onlineconsoles.com/phpBB2/guides_1080_lan.php Phantasy Star Online 1 & 2, and Homeland (Japan Only) support Internet play, but seems a pain to seup. I hear you get the online working on the Wii.
I think you're missing the point... The whole "Superior library" thing is all a matter of opinion, you can like whichever one you want better, I personally like the Wii's better, but that doesn't change the fact that you can play *both libraries* on a Wii! You can't do that on a Cube... Yeah, the Game Cube's library is pretty good, I'm not underestimating it, *I play it,* but I play it on the same console where I play Wii games, NES, SNES, Mega Drive, TurboGrafx-16, Turbo CD, Neo Geo and N64 (and then some), all in one convenient little box which outputs a better and cleaner image than I can get on a Cube... And even though you can't get all of the VC and Wiiware games 'officially' anymore, they've all been backed up a long time ago, so if you really want them you can still find and get them... Also, emulation on the Wii is *far* from a moot point, not everyone needs "the best" emulation machine, sometimes all you need is an easy-to-use emulation box which you can plug on your TV and play with your friends, and the Wii suits that purpose beautifully! It runs a wide variety of systems very well, you can go from playing 4p Super Bomberman, to 2p Gunstar Heroes, to 1p Gate of Thunder, to 3p Mario Kart 64, all on the same system, very quickly and smoothly! And yes, the Wii has an Ethernet adaptor, but I honestly don't see the point in bringing that up unless you play Phantasy Star Online, which I don't, but I did play my fair share of Mario Kart Wii and Excite Bots online back then...
everything is worth playing in 2018 if you like it lol........if not then make your own decisions , dont be part of the echo chamber. one thing that peeves me is "that game is shit" - "have you ever played it" - erm no but so and so said it was rubbish.....
What I wish was released in the US, was the Panasonic Q, the gamecube that also was a music system AND played DVDs. It looked more like an entertainment console and less like a toy too.
I don't think it's fair to call people hipsters for calling the Gamecube the best console. Its all subjective. The Gamecube isn't my favorite console but i can understand how people who grew up with it can claim its their favorite.
Playing Sunshine on my PC EMU. Made me buy a GameCube. As a SEGA FAN Boy through and through. The GC is still my no1 Big N Home Console to date.. I mean who could not love that little smiley face x2 on the front. + play every single GB - GBC - GBA game ...... No contest...
Liked the 'Cube a lot, and it was probably my favourite of the 6th generation consoles (though I didn't really get to play much of the Dreamcast, so my opinion might have been different if I had). But I think this video is spot on; solid library of games, but didn't blow me away like other consoles such as the SNES, PS1 and (at times) the N64 did.
My last console from Nintendo was the N64 and I really didn't keep it for all that long. I also had the PS1 and original X-Box 1. Well I still have the X-Box in one of my other homes but it just collects dust. I just didn't have the time then to really sit down and play games like I do now. But now I rely on emulation or PC related ARPG/RPGs. Do enjoy your history series though, keep it up.
I had all three of the big 6th generation consoles, and I feel that the Gamecube still offers a unique experience for this generation of consoles. The only reason that I still have my Wii is for the GC backwards compatibility, as Nintendo doesn't seem to offer any Virtual Console for the GC.
I'd rank the NES and SNES ahead of the Game Cube in terms of greatest Nintendo consoles, but I think the GC had a much better library of exclusive games than the N64. Resident Evil, Metroid Prime, and Animal Crossing are a big part of that reason, and I know they are not really talked about much in the video. I have to mention that even if you don't particularly care for jump scares, the excellent game play, isolated atmosphere and strategic mechanics such as inventory management make Resident Evil 4 one of the best titles of that generation. Even if you don't like survival horror, Resident Evil 4 basically becomes a top notch action game filled with over the top set pieces and the best third person gun play and shooting of that entire console generation. In fact, it was one of the first third person games of that generation to make a shooting system that felt and controlled so superbly. As far as survival horror games go, this game is a roller coaster ride taking the player into a variety of absurd and unbelievable situations, and it needed two discs just to contain the game's massive single player story. Another big advantage the GC had over the 64 was much better 3rd party support. Not just in terms of Sega exclusives, although Super Monkey Ball 1 and 2 are amazing, but the Game Cube was the first Nintendo console since the SNES to actually get many of the same 3rd party games that were released on competing systems. Although the GC was not as ground breaking or innovating in terms of it's contribution to the influence of 3D games as that of the N64, I think the Game Cube definitely had a lot more great games on it that hold up better today than those on the N64. For that matter, even though it sold a lot worse than the Wii, I think it had a more solid and less gimmicky library of games than that of the Wii as well. Perhaps the Nintendo Switch will take over the number 3 spot in terms of greatest Nintendo consoles due to the outstanding amount of great games to be released on it. But, as for now I'd firmly put the GC as the 3rd greatest Nintendo console. Note: I'm not a hipster, and I started playing games on the NES, I just don't think the N64 or Wii's library hold a candle to the library of the Game Cube's
I've only known about the "Fire Emblem" series since last summer (other than the characters appearing in Smash). So, imagine my sticker shock when I tried to search for physical copies of "Path of Radiance" on Amazon or eBay. I'm guessing they haven't made an official emulated version yet. The Wii Virtual Console only seemed to include games up to the N64 library (not that it's online anymore).
The N64 had a small library of games because only Nintendo could absorb the ridiculous cost of cartridge production. After Sony made it cheap and easy to produce PS1 games most publishers would never go back to the bad old days of 'green blood forced on the publisher of MK on SNES' with huge upfront profit killing cartridge costs that they had to put up with before the PS1.
Too true bruv, many British software houses just closed their doors when faced with 100,000 quid up front for cartridges alone before a single sale occurred.
Did you know that Dolphin supports 4 different types of 3D? It supports Anigliph (red blue), 3D TVs, Nvidia 3D, and side by side. There is also a special version of Dolphin to play in VR!
Hi. Thanks. I like the cuteness of the HuCard, the PC Engine and the Color Classic. The Dreamcast looks great, it's controller looks cool too with the VMU and I like the size of the Atari cartridge. God bless, Proverbs 31
Excellent video. The 'Cube is the console that really tried my patience with Nintendo fanboys. I didn't warm up to the GameCube, because of how lacking I felt the N64 was, but I eventually was drawn to games like Geist, Baten Kaitos, and the ability to play my GBA library. Speaking of Nintendo weirdness, ever try Odama? It's a bizarre pinball war game you play with the aid of a microphone where you yell "LEFT!" or "RIGHT!". It didn't function well, but amusing nonetheless.
Playing, yes for exclusives, kind of for mutli-plats (depending on whether you have access to an X-Box, cos it beats PS2 but not X-Box for multi format games, and a lot of multi-format games only came to PS2 and X-Box), but owning instead of playing on a Wii, not really no, and not only is buying a Wii cheaper, and 100% compatible, you would also have a wii and access to all those games. Plus you can get 480p component without spending over $100 on the leads, and actually use RGB or 576i component in Europe, NEITHER of which you can do with the PAL Gamecube console but work on the Wii.
I honestly would write the star fox adventure out of it, it wasnt originally meant to be Fox McCloud as the mc, but they got cold feet near the end and got rid of Krystal as the mc and used Fox instead without changing things to fit with his style
Smash Brothers Melee. This is pronounced Mel-Lay, means scrap or fight. Love your content! PLEASE DON'T SUPLEX ME... (oh and I I prefer to say Ryu like we did as kids too (Rai-You) even though I know that's wrong too haha).
Top Hat Gaming Man, You make me proud to be British
Yes wot wot
Your opinion is invalid because you have an anime profile picture.
Like an inverse Jeremy Kyle. Yeaaaahhh.

Igor Kolosha Yes what a loser.
It's 2020 and I can confirm the gamecube is still worth playing.
me too.
Thankfully Nintendo still sees value in local multiplayer while others say no to local multiplayer.
Rich? Or Nathan?
I bought a Wii just for the GC compatibility
You did the right thing
José Luis, I bought a Wii last month. And I'm still trying to find anyone else on the servers for a game of MarioKart.
Hack it
I did. But it's only at the penultimate version of the software. Most things aren't operational.
I recall reading that they changed the NGC abbreviation outside Japan to avoid trademark disputes with National Geographic Channel.
The comment about milenials, this is their nostalgia beginning to kick in about their childhood gaming on the game cube and hold it dear as we do the snes/megadrive or mastersystem etc.
So even if the gamecube is not the greatest nintendo system ever it is extra special to them.
Yes. Even if not the best it's one of my favorite Nintendo system other than n64 and Wii.
I was gonna say, it's not the best system technically speaking, but it is my favorite,
I can't decide if I like PS2 or GameCube more. After school my mate and I would go to his house to play GameCube, or mine to play PS2. It was a way more social way to play multiplayer than online is now. I have a feeling that when I'm about 80 this is gonna be something I lecture grandchildren about.
Love how you mix personal history and stories into your overview of the system and games. So great. Subscribed
12:06 CRAZY THING, The Dreamcast had 8MB of video memory when it was released in 1998 and in 2000 when the PS2 came out it had 4MB of video memory. one of the reason PS2 games always have this weird grainy look or do not look as sharp as Dreamcast games.
Eternal Darkness is still one of the best, if not the best, lovecraftian games ever made.
absolutely agree... great game
I agree
IS the Top Hat Gaming Man still worth watching in 2018??? You bet your ARSE he is !!!
ads every 7 minutes? no thanks!
Phantasy Star Online Episode 1 &2 were great fun.
Also,i was REEEEEEling at the 27.44 mark...you cad! My ears will never be the same..
Super Smash Bros MEAL? MEAL?!? ARE YOU SERIOUS? MEEEAL? Pronounced "MAY" 'LAY"... *Shudders*
"Me-lay" or "Mell-A" (mɛleɪ), "May" "Lay" sounds like an American way of saying it?
I'm American... Oxford Dictionaries ... Says may-lay at least that's what I hear... th-cam.com/video/ZUPadyOGhrQ/w-d-xo.html
Meh-Leh
Great use of Shenmue Music.I love the videos man. So much fun to watch.
Always worth playing GameCube. Wavebird & Luigis Mansion alone. Fantastic system and the last time Nintendo went toe to toe on graphics. Beating PS2 for sure. Grab a wii and component it and damn GameCube looks great.
Excellent documentary ...BRAVO!!!
I just finished the 41 min video and I must say that I learn quite a bit
27:44 RIP headphone users. MAN, that caught me off guard!
25:19 Super Smash Bros. MEEL?
This is one of my top two favorite systems ever along with the original NES. Ridiculous amount of good games. I can't think of anything on the PS2 or Xbox I wanted. Dreamcast had some of my love at the time though.
Hi glad having long video!
Just found this channel in 2021 and its brilliant!
Great work as always, keep the top quality videos coming 👍
I got into the GC when they were clearing them out with the Zelda promos, that and the Gameboy adapter was gold! Adding HDMI now adays is even better!
I think the Gamecube aged the best out of the 3 consoles of the time.
Certain games did sure. Windwaker for example.
True dat
@Mammoth Supremacy 55 😂😂😂😂
Maybe I;m biased since the Gamecube was my first Nintendo system, but I love it. Sure it was overlooked at the time, but I still love playing it.
Gamecube's games looked the most fun so I chose it as my 1st console & same.
Bruh. N64 carts hold up to 32mb of storage and sometimes have a special 64mb cart (for resident evil 2 with cgi clips that you rarely see on N64)
Am I the only one who thinks Star Fox Adventures is an amazing 9/10 game?
bilboswa666ins I think 10/10
Eternal Darkness and Super Mario Sunshine are great Game Cube exclusives that never got ported or sequels. I got a cheap Wii so we’d still be able to play those games. My son stuck his finger in our GameCube knocking the laser out of alignment. I’ve heard that it’s a common problem. Hopefully we’ll get a N64 Classic followed by a GameCube Classic mini so I won’t have to play on old hardware forever.
I still have and love and still play my NGC
Also
33:30
Aside from the memory card that gc + wavebird is just like mine
Its 2020 and I'm still playing the cube
Maybe this is mental acrobatics but to me the Gamecube actually sold 134 million total because technically the Wii was an upgraded Gamecube with motion controls, making it the second best selling console of all time behind the PS2.
With that math, you can add all ps2s and ps3s to ps1s sales figures and ps1 is easily the best selling system.
13:17 British gamecube commercial is batshit psycho. Something wrong over there?
I remember getting a game called Cel Damage for Christmas. For its time it was a fun vehicle combat game which was the main reason why I kept my GameCube for year after.
these vids seem so click baity, but then you watch them and I feel bad for even thinking that. They are brilliant. Love the history and all the info you pack in, these vids rule.
33:00 I don't really regret selling my Gamecube... I seriously regret selling my wavebird controller.
Gamecube + Game Boy Player + GB Interface / Swiss disc + Memory Card + HDMI mod = Still worth it!
Love these videos, and the British/your insight at the time.
No mention of eternal darkness I loved that game
you kinda hit the nail on the head except that the two franchises you discounted (RE and Metroid Prime) were huge titles for that system.
Its 2023 and i still love the gamecube im actually around half of getting my old collection completed for gamecube
If nothing else for the Gamecube Player, yes it is still worth playing!
Did.... did you just pronounce melee..... as.... *_MEAL?_*
It’s
*may*
*lay*
.....
I just pronounce it as it's pronounced on the title screen.
hey.. how about you shut up?
MeeLay😛
Regardless if it's worth playing; that controller is fucking amazing.
I got a GameCube this last Christmas and yesterday I bought another one because I like it so much.
lol @ at the comments about how to pronounce "melee." He knows! Part of the charm of this channel is how he trolls uptight fans 😄
Good games are always still worth playing....
Metal Gear Solid - Twin Snakes, Resident Evil, Eternal Darkness, Super Monkey Ball, Timesplitters 2 and the free Zelda Collection on DD all made me more than happy with my purchase.
25:56
Melee - "May-Lay"
Mel-lay
15:40- I get it. LOL 😆
The commercials for the Gamecube are very interesting for a console with such a cartoony and colourful library. Dark techno music, a goth woman, people more wary than blown away, goat horns. I wonder what was going on there.
I pluyed mine just last week and i'm glad I did! I love pluying it mait!!
Wait for it - wait for it - wait for it - he is talking about gadgets for the cube - wait - wait - FRELL YEAH: BONGOS! 33:45
(I mean, c'mon, the Wii is just a beefed-up Game Cube anyway)
Secondly: The Wii is dirt-cheap, and it's *everywhere!*
Thirdly: With a Wii you get not only the Game Cube's library that you want, but you also open yourself up to the honestly *far superior* Wii's Library, the Wii had not only Nintendo's strongest 1st Party since the N64, but also a surprising amount of quality 3rd-Party exclusives, some superior versions of Game Cube games (Such as Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, Resident Evil 4 and the Pikmin games) and even the best selection of retro games ever sold on a digital storefront in the form of the Virtual Console!
Well said 🙂
The Wii not having Broadband Adapter support isn't that much of a lost.
1080° Avalanche does support it, but seems very underwhelming according to this website: gamecube.onlineconsoles.com/phpBB2/guides_1080_lan.php
Phantasy Star Online 1 & 2, and Homeland (Japan Only) support Internet play, but seems a pain to seup.
The way you say melee has me dying man , great vid good sir
Gamecube was the best party system in my opinion.
What I wish was released in the US, was the Panasonic Q, the gamecube that also was a music system AND played DVDs. It looked more like an entertainment console and less like a toy too.
Melee sure got a workout at my house back in the day, my kids could play it for hours and I'd be right in there with them lol.
5:00 *Talks about GC games. Has an N64 game in the background* :D
My parents got a gamecube when i was 3 months old i still play iys games to this day
My last console from Nintendo was the N64 and I really didn't keep it for all that long.
Yo my British mate has the most epic facial expressions ever!!!🤘🏾👍🏾
24:30 HAHAH you imagine that commercial today! people would say it is racist against midgets!
Have 4 gamecubes and 3 wavebird controller's. Love metroid and starfox adventure.
Thank you for your wisdom
Did you know that Dolphin supports 4 different types of 3D? It supports Anigliph (red blue), 3D TVs, Nvidia 3D, and side by side. There is also a special version of Dolphin to play in VR!
Been playing Metroid Prime and Battalion Wars recently, still ace

Hi. Thanks. I like the cuteness of the HuCard, the PC Engine and the Color Classic. The Dreamcast looks great, it's controller looks cool too with the VMU and I like the size of the Atari cartridge.
God bless, Proverbs 31
Gamecube my second favourite console of all time only beaten by the Dreamcast.
Love the 6 mid rolks chief.
Supper Mash Bros. Meal, LOL!!! }:-D>
What the name of the theme you play at the beginning?
