It may be burning your lips on a tin cup of hot coffee, or hiking in moccasins, or just the smell of black powder in the air, but those moments are as close to time travel as we can get, and what we get is a deeper and richer understanding of the past It is priceless and hard to put into words, I guess it cant be explained it can only be felt, and your soul forever changed. It's beauty horror joy sadness and everything that makes up the brief time we live. Thank you for posting this and sharing that brief glimpse of hand made hand crafted with attention to detail perfection to the point that any flaw is a celebration of the unique portion of what it means to be simply human.

@frontier quest what are some reputable sutlers to buy from for this time period that is not too hard on the wallet for equipment?

Nick, you could try www.fortdowning.com, Cobb Creek, www.bethlehemtradingpost.com, www.townsends.us, and www.smilingfoxforge.com

This looks really neat. I try to come there every year. So do you have to like sign in or something to camp outside the fort or can any person in period dress come and come and camp?

TheKreiken, this is the only event that I participated in there, but all we had to do was register when you show up, give it a try.

I haven't been since 2018, but they charge $20.00 to camp. If you want to sell things, you have to buy a permit of some sort, but I've NO idea how much that might be.

Moontain Brew, the last I checked all events are cancelled because of covid, they usually have several events a year, spring, summer, and fall, this one was in November, you can get their schedule at www.fortdechartres.us

@@SOvideography i checked it it says their hoping to do it September 11th and 12th of this year. So far their open to 50 or so at a time or something like that but no where on their site ever says even older events when it usually is held like when you went was it in early morning afternoon 1 2 3 pm ? like what time frame since there is NO mention of time so even for older ones so if they do it this year sicne said its in works for 11th and 12th of september i get a feeling what time cus i am in Peoria their about 5 hours if it is like 8am or 9am ... well .. shucks so if they did that be near hard to get up and ready down there so since tehir site never mentions time evne older events i have no idea if it is even possible to make it before the reenactment so since you went. I assume? What time did they do the reenactment morning afternoon?

@@moontainbew5018 every event I went to, you are allowed to arrive and set up the day before, say the rendezvous is on Saturday and Sunday, you can come in on Friday. Just keep checking their website because you will probably have to fill out a application, but normally they are not available until a couple of weeks before the event. P.S. normally you can walk into an event whenever you want, you don't have to be there at a specific time.

@@SOvideography ok id keep checking but if their doing the reenactment and i arrive and they already did it and done with it .. then it be over right? dont they have a certain time they do their gun shooting reenact ment then call it quits on that day or they do it intervals ? i just assumed that when they do it on 11th and 12th where shoot you know the war fight etc they do it at select times on both days then the otehr bit is buy and they have things set up but dont they have a select time they shoot and stuff then end it each day or no ? that is the part i want to know again the site dont tell me een past events where they shoot fight fire guns etc that is what my niece so badly wants to see and me i been to fort i love it tho not with buy stuff or this but if show up and their done with it .. well ... its why i want to know from someone that been there
i been trying hard to know from previous events how its like when they usually fight and fire and reenact or they do it the whole time there has to be down periods or so on The more i know the better the website just mentions September 11th and 12th but even Past events it never mentions time so me and niece so badly wnat to be around with the fighting guns and stuff and from trying harder and harder to find out what its like when it usually starts when they quit or so on its best to ask someone that been there like
well for a example lets say you say well i went last tiem and the guns and fighting happened usually at 11am or so that tells me a idea or so .. i hate to be abother again i check website it never tells me the process of the fighting when they do have that if all day or half day or so on
it usually tells it or dates and them planning it for September 11th and 12th this year so hopefully they can pack thousands of people in there got to postpone it until september so they can figure out how to do it ..
Since i never seen a reenatment i saw videos of it but no one evne on the site even of PAST events mentions the ways of it if its a near all day fighting or they get breaks and stuff then do it again .. the more i know the better.
the site dont tell me that at all even like i siad Past ones i dont wanna show up if they have it and if hits near Noon or so due to 5 hours away and their done fighting on one of the days ... so someone that been there its good to know how its like if 1 time fight shooting reenatment or they go on and off on it take breaks etc .. if not its fine id keep trying to find out how its like the best i can .. again the site dont tell me how its like even other years that part i am curious do they have things set up to buy and fighting going on what it like is what i wanna know from someone that experienced it
