Today on The Skid Factory we head down to see our mate Kye from AHT Performance to get Mark's 1986 H252 Nissan President tuned. It's not a high powered vehicle but it still requires a good tune to maximise both power delivery and Fuel Efficiency.

For the wiring diagrams just download google translate and point your camera at the writing. It does Japanese really well.

Yeah, I can attest to that from travelling overseas and Chinese speed controllers etc. But to be fair that cars wiring diagram would probably be the worst of the worst.
It's not always about speed and racecar stuff. This car is cool as hell and making it run proper is just as fun as making another car fast. Brilliant learning stuff about the older cars.

Gorgeous Car but for real... parts wise would be painful. 130hp ATW is fine..... she's a long cruiser and much like the old school Crowns and Cressida's they wallowed around cossetting their passengers.. and that's what they did well at....
I'd love a Toyota Century V8 or V12... just love the idea of a solid Japanese Cruiser that says ... F-Off....!

Reminds me of my 1987 Ford LTD Crown Victoria. It has an EFI 5.0 V8 that makes something like 140 horsepower. It's butter-smooth but struggles above 70 mph.

Love this vjayo. To teach the peeps on peak and hold to saturation injectors. 1.4 ohm with a ballast resistor. Vs a 12/14 ohm injectors operation. Pwm was done with load resistance. Now it its is done with current by voltage modulation. Back in the day a transistor was only capable of only miliamps of switching current. Now with IGBT's. 100's. Of amps can be switched with in milliseconds with out creating detrimental heat. Three phase DC convertors,modern TIG welders, and er, umm, the Prius. Wouldn't be possible. Isn't. It amazing that an Australiaian electronics company can use such devices to create. The nexus series of ECU's.

Quite an interesting sounding V8, I can't figure it out. Doesn't sound much like Toyota's equivalent UZ or a Yank V8. Bet the car's incredibly comfy though.

That's because I am negative 20 on the sound scale and he is plus 20. Different people have different voices. We are on the same channel so it wasn't possible to change the levels.

The President is proof that a car needn't have 800hp or do 0-60 in 3 seconds to be cool. A classic old school luxury sedan.
I met a guy who has one of these he bought at an auction without an engine or transmission. He ended up swapping in a built small block Ford and a c4 transmission with about 400 hp. Said it's a lot of fun to drive back and forth to Atlanta when he picks up his customers and friends when they come to town. It's the only one I currently know of in the south east US. He runs a Holly dominator setup but it still has all of the factory amenities.

Pellet catalytic converters suck arse. They love to plug up if things run just a little rich, which carbs and throttle body injection can do.

So, I know that N/A is hard, but what could be done to improve this old warhorse short of forced induction? Would you have to tear the whole engine down and get some sort of better shaped pistons? A different head? How much of a copy of the SBC might this be? Close enough that small block Chev bits would fit?

I'm just an old mechanic, but it was something I spent a LOT of time on way back when I had my 910 Bluebird Rally car.
I raced the car, obviously, but I also drove it every day on the road to work and at other times.
It was important to me to drive like a normal car when it wasn't racing 👍
Don't know how many hours I spent adding timing, pulling fuel, chasing pyro temps etc, but the end result was a car that did indeed drive like a factory engine, but could also often beat the slower 4wd turbos in events we did, despite being only 2WD👌

I paid 800 to get my ba Xr8 tuned after having some work done cams etc it goes great full throttle but absolute pig of thing to drive normally slams into gear goes limp mode still now and then I got ripped off almost tempted to drive to see this bloke all way from Adelaide now

Low impedance injectors are awesome. they're more sensitive and are more performance-based. people are lazy and high impedance injectors are easy and that's the route people have chosen to go. With that said in the past decade or so injectors in general have come along way. But most 80s and 90s engines that were high-revving came with low impedance injectors.

Just a small tip for kanji sings. Use the google translate function with your mobile. It has an option to take pictures and translate out of the picture. Worked out pretty well when I used it.
