  • In the movie Anchorman (2002), Brick (played by Steve Carrell), indicates that he "loves lamp". Albeit, a strange statement in the context of the movie, I identify with Brick in his "love for lamp", or rather, the love for light. I have carried a light with me throughout my university and professional career and am always seeking opportunities to share it through improving customer experiences, developing business ideas, and applying design/systemic-thinking to new challenges. Aside from enlightening myself in university by taking your typical business courses in business data analytics, finance, accounting, and ethical management, I challenged myself to participate in an exchange program at the world's top school for public administration in the Netherlands to study policy and international law.
I always try to act as a beacon of light in my volunteer work and take on lead roles in diverse organizations. I am passionate about sharing the light of education though my volunteer work. I co-founded the Literacy Association to increase awareness around low-literacy in local and international communities and volunteered as an English tutor for the Students' Union. I have shed light on social injustices, presenting at several conferences my research on prescription drug access for low-income Calgarians, volunteering at Calgary Legal Guidance, and volunteering at the Calgary Climate Hub to support community conversations. At the Foundation of Environmental Stewardship, I worked on providing resources to Indigenous, remote, and rural communities to support climate action in places that have too often been left behind. My executive responsibilities at FES allows me to create programming that gives space to voices left behind, and at the core empower youth for a more inclusive, fair, prosperous, and sustainable future.
I have seen light in so many people and having worked with incredible organizations and communities, I have witnessed the light, resilience, and strength people can bring into each others' lives. So like Brick... "I love lamp."
