It's funny to me how Android 5, introducing Material Design, has more shadows and depth than the current version of Android.
Meanwhile, other platforms are trying to go for neumorphism, adding more characteristics back to their flat designs.
And to me it looks really awkward. I suppose it's just growing pains for this new trend, but to me either something has depth and realism or it doesn't. Trying to mix both without making the art lean in on either direction just feels uncanny.

To be honest, android 5 icons are more understandable at a glance
that's simply a comfortable feeling of realistic
it just lives closer to the real world

Also, the app interfaces were designed from large overlaid sheets of paper with cardboard spacers

Even though I don’t remember Android 5.0, those icons look actually alright, and i think they’re better than the new icons. It just seems more realistic, but it’s Google and Android’s choice.
The 2.0 -4.4 android icons were so much realista i have a 4.4 android samsungbtablet With touchwizz an looked well

Android 5 was my favorite androind ever like 4 and 3.
To be honest, I like the material design icon better than the current one. The current design language Android is nowhere near as good as material design, which I think is the best Android era (with Holo very closely, or in fact neck-and-neck).

I was skipping Android 5 at that time, jump right to 9. My Grandma's Phone used Android 5 and now used by my little cousin 😅
I also skipped it. My first android was 2.3.6 then I got a different phone which had 4.4.4 and at the moment using 9 but very soon getting a new phone that has android 13 to begin with alongside two promised updates so it will eventually end up with android 15.

There is only two times that I preferred android 14’s icon that is the play store and camera but the rest I feel android 5’s icons tell you what it is better and not having the circle constraint I think helped it because I hated the white background on android 14 if the app icon didn’t fit I can’t describe why but I hate it. One more thing android 5’s calculator icon isn’t bad its more like 6/10 but android 14’s is the most ugly thing ever -999999999999999/10

The papercut look of Android 5 is honestly the best
Missed so much the Google Play Music that was I used as Main Music Player over Music Player from Samsung 😅. Currently use Musicolet 😊

Google play music was really good. You could use pirated songs and any sounds in it, and it was free. You could also buy songs but no one did that
Pretty much every Android 14 icon is worse than Android 5's.
Also, that 3D system logo on the thumbnail. What even is that?
They introduced a new Android logo. I think it looks way too weird since most Google icons now are 2D

People used to not understand what the apps was, so they made the icons more understandable, but now everyone understands and know those icons
