Hi, during my travel in 2023 November, there's a bus 543 right outside my resort in Obertraun - this bus brings us directly to Hallstatt village. The Hallstatt Train Station is actually located not in the village itself, you would have to take a ferry from the train station to reach the village - it's a little confusing... I took quite awhile to figure out.
I guess there are 2 ways (other than driving) to reach Hallstatt Village - Bus or Ferry. Ferry can be taken from the Hallstatt station. Is your accommodation nearer to Hallstatt station or Obertraun Station?
For me, my accommodation in Obertraun is within walking distance from the Obertraun Station, therefore I took a train to this station and walked to the resort. The next morning, I took bus 543 at the bus stop outside my resort to Hallstatt Village. After exploring, I took a ferry from the village to Hallstatt Station and took a stroll to my resort (another option is to take the train from Hallstatt Station to Obertraun Station) to collect my luggage.
I'd say bus is the easier option if there's a bus stop near your accommodation but it's a nice experience taking the ferry too. Hope this helps!
