    I used to hear several versions of this piece " Rheinische". This is phenomenal.
    Paavo inspired the orchestra to be full of drive.
    Hidden master piece in youtube! Wolfgang Sawallisch loved this orchestra.

      MGH cnsGABA I have just listened to Giulini conducting this with Mahler's orchestration. You don't need only Mahler but also a good conductor. Giulini was so violent on the emphasised bass notes in the first. I thought there was something wrong with me, but I tried the next best Rhenisch, this one Takes the bass emphases normally and doesn't beat heel out of the earth with them. Clara insisted that fortes in her husbands music should never be crass unless a very special Sforfzando was required Am I wong? Maybe I'm getting a bit old and feeble for the bang,bang, bang stuff.

      I appreciate for your comment.
      I wrote to applaud Jarvi's excellent leadership to motivate and inspire the orchestra. In this performance,someone may feel the river Rhein flows with too much of vigour. Like or dislike,it's a matter of taste.
      I respect your comment,and I should say that I can't answer whether you are wrong. I am merely a music fan. Thank you.

    The opening is breathtaking! The best I have ever heard actually, it breaths and there is no confusion, nothing timid or forceful. I might even say this is the first time I have heard it done "right".

      I am not a man readily prone to tears, but for some reason the ascending horn octaves in the finale make me tear. More a comment on the piece; I jusr find it curious that such an upbeat movement is the saddest and most moving part of the Symphony to me.

      +Jackson Witmer Couldn't agree more. I love Schumann and I have never understood the critics who trivialize his symphonies. This interpretation reveals the great depths of Schumann's musical genius.

    It is a master conducting work!!!. How he let the horns sing in 0:57 !!!!

      In fact he changed the orchestration. For sure he took the idea in Mahler's reorchestration of this symphony.

      Is it Mahler´s reorchestration or Järvi did himself another reorchestration of the original work of Schumann?. Thanks in advance.

    • @v4n5z
      @v4n5z 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It is likely that Järvi combined Schumann's original score and Mahler's reorchestration because horns play both notes of original score and Mahler's arrangement.
