Great tutorial, upgraded to a 1tb ssd fine but had a very slight issue after the restart. Controller turns on system but when it gets to the user selection screen the controller lights would constantly flash and not connect. I found a fix, turn the power off at the wall on the user selection screen. When I booted it back up the console complained about an improper shutdown, scanned for errors and when it came back on the controller now works fine from turning the console on.
Thanks. I didn't even know this utility existed. I have done multiple hdd swaps and this was the easiest. Yesterday I upgraded 2 ps3 slims to ITB with this method.

much needed utility for jailbroken sets. PS3 discs are bluray which makes the game sizes huge. 250gb just doesn't cut it. And the drive is encrypted making cloning tools like Clonezilla and Macrium useless.

You guys just swap the new Hdd card and boot the ps3 in safe MOde , and choose format ps3 , and thats all , the ps3 will format the new Hdd card , and u can choose to update if u want to but be careful if you have a JAILBREAK PS3 !
People dont do this. You're risking a YLOD here and it takes a very long time! Just use HDClone to create a bit-by-bit copy of your ps3 hdd to a bigger (possibly faster) hdd.

ı did all the steps same way. when ı try to start ps3 new hdd it give error. an error occured during the rebuild operation.the system storage must be formatted. all data on the system will be deleted during formatting. do you want format? please help me what can ı do
So what I did was a mix between the following: To add context: I upgraded from 160Gb HDD to 1TB 7200RPM HDD on Rebug 4.81 DEX. - community.eu.playstation.com/t5/PS3-Support/Error-at-70-of-rebuild-process-when-adding-1tb-hdd-to-12gb-super/td-p/17599604 And, -www.ps3hax.net/showthread.php?t=99082 The steps: 1) Enter Safe mode: "(Hold down the power button on the console waiting for the first beep, then keep it depressed until the console switches off completely. Remove your finger from the button. Then, hold down again, wait 5(ish) seconds for the console to beep, then wait 2 further seconds for two successive beeps. After the second beep, take your finger off the power button)" 2) Select first option 3 and then 4. Quoting Playerkp420: "Option 3. Restore File System and Option 4. Rebuild Database, will not format the HDD. But after choosing Option 3. it is normal for the PS3 to say something is corrupt then restore the file system. Even if nothing is corrupt. It does the thing like when the ps3 wasn't shut off correctly, but nothing should get formatted. If you cancel it after starting though, it will probably want u to format." However when I go to check the free space it still says the same amount as on the previous HDD, 122GB/931GB, and it should be something like 893GB/931GB, what can I do for it to be detected properly?
To fix the incorrect free space shown which was apparently because it had all of its space unallocated and when restoring it only allocated 160gb as per previous HDD since it couldn't perform the rebuild successfully, I formatted the HDD, it kept the CFW and it now shows the correct amount of space however the data was deleted. To recover the data I restored it from a backup I did as a failsafe. So I didn't have to reinstall CFW with pendrive but had to follow some steps from this other guide: th-cam.com/video/HyjXR9GMjfw/w-d-xo.html Now it does say 828GB/931GB which is what is expected from a 1TB HDD. For the trophies I backed up the whole "dev_hdd0\home" which includes the "Trophy" folder via FTP and sent it back to the new HDD the same way.

I did this upgrading to 1 TB from 320GB. I'm on rebug 4.84 cfw and cloned it using the hdd tool. I popped the new drive in and it says I only have 50 GB available outta 960 GB. Can you help me out with how to make the extra space useable?
am on rebug 4.84 REX tried this... everything went well until it reaches 93% while copying and then an error occurs. did it twice same error at 93% any help please thanks.
To do this on Evilnat 4.88 you need to download and install the Rebug tool box package. From the Rebug tool box app enable QA flags. Exit to the Playstation home screen. Go to settings section and go all the way down to Network settings option and hold L1,L2,R1,R2,L3, and down on the control pad at the same time to unlock the Debug menu. You must have an actual PS3 controller for this to work because the HDD utility will ask you to press the center PS3 button. I learned the hard way that PS4 and PS5 controllers will not be accepted.

Hello, after the HDD copying process is completed, is the data in the first HDD to which we copied the data deleted at the end of the process, or does it remain intact so that we can use it as a backup in the future?
Thanks a lot for making life simple for us. Great tutorial 👌
Honstly I find using this method faster than the normal backup, reinstall os and restore thing.
much needed utility for jailbroken sets. PS3 discs are bluray which makes the game sizes huge. 250gb just doesn't cut it. And the drive is encrypted making cloning tools like Clonezilla and Macrium useless.
The Video, I have looking for. Thank you, I will try it tomorrow. chance my 80gb HDD to 1TB SSD 😊
Im going to try this, this weekend seems simple will try a 1TB
Perfect tutorial, this helped me very quickly.

Hey Modzlink, when you run the Debug for HDD Exchange Utility data transfer, is the PS3 on CEX or DEX?
Great tutorial!
CEX QA in the rebug settings makes the Debug HDD setting appear.
@@ReviewArchiveUSA420 thank you! i was wondering where that setting was.
@@EnTeeSea No problem

I have the latest rebug d-Rex installed and I can not find the HD exchange utility is it only in the older rebugs?
you're the best modzlink
Thanks works for me great video!
Are you sure this method isn't exclusive to same-sized HDD?

Edit: just tested and he is right, worked like a charm. Waaay easier than the wiki page I posted, but It is still worth giving it a read.
So i can upgrade to a larger SSD?
@@YoungCatracho I really don't remember man, sorry
worked like a charm brotha
I don't have that setting in my debug settings I am on 4.78 kernel CEX target DEX
Don’t have that setting either, can’t find any solutions to it unfortunately.
my debug for hdd exchange was not there at 1st and im on cfw rebug cex 4.81.2 all i did was go to rebug tool book, xmb to debug then go back to xmb then debug settings and there it is .
gotta love when you're trying to upgrade to an ssd with less space than the hard drive and it says there isnt enough space
Don't upgrade to SSD. Your just paying more money for no reason. The PS3 is SATA 1. A SSD is SATA 3. You are completely bottlenecking the SSD at 150mb/s. You can get a 1TB HDD for like as low as $20-$35
@@User_1795 the superslim is sata 2. 300mbps. Worth upgrading
@@thennekcdcdthennek6417 I didn't know that... Interesting.
How could it cause YLOD?
Don't fool people.
HD clone is on PS3 or PC?
awesome bro love the vid

Can I have a question?
The process is same with old phat model - NAND system?
And before transfer hdd need to be formated at any system like fat32,ntsc....?

this with ps3 is freaking awsome
I'm new to ps3 jailbreaks and ps3 modding in general, my console came with a 100gb internal hdd, which is garbage, i'm in the process of upgrading to a 500 as its all i have lyinga round. What i have done so far is in RebugToolbox turn Q/A toggle to enable, change ps3ID to CEX 84, then somewhere else in rebug toolbox there was a option called DebugMenu type, i just changed it to CEX also, and now the Debug HDD Utility Exchange shows up, right now its cloning to the new drive. Hopefully i wont experience any errors...
my 320GB HDD is so fkin slow, i need to upgrade it to 500GB SSHD
so i have a Fat CFW evilnat 4.91.2 model, it has a 60 gb disk and i want to upgrade it, the HDD has 0 stuff in it besides a virtual memory card for a ps1 game, i have read that replacing the HDD wont delete the CFW but, do i must backup the original drive? it doesnt have anything, is there something that it is supposed to backup thats completely necessary for a correct upgrade? its a NAND system
good job i did that too like you did it work good
and soon i will shipping my ps3 to you to unbrick ok
i have your website will let you know when :)
I can't imagine how long copying a 1TB drive would take.
Just use clonezilla at that point.
17h did it take for a 1tb to a 1tb ssd

I keep getting error code during copying process
Do I need to format the new drive first before I copy over data from the new drive or does the hdd exchange utility do it automatically?
for hard drive 1tb what are the features ?, measurements are 2.5' 9.5 mm ? sata 3 is compatible ? 7200 is good? , how much cashe memory ?, hdd usb 3.0 is compatible to put it internally? the best brands? thanks anyway

Great. Can i swap Jailbroked HDD by regular one and just use whenever i'll need it? Will JB HDD stil functional after swap?
I have given PS3 Slim with some games installed on it already. Firmware version shows 4.76. So i'm assuming it's a moded PS3 but i couldn't find any CF or MultiMan installed on it. How i know you can't insall games on HDD with Official Firmware.
Any idea? Thanks.

I'm getting the same fault as KyleCFW. The PS3 did not reboot to ''Copying'' and I've got no signal on the tv? Though its still running. I had to shut everything down and restart my ps3 in safe mode. Luckily its still working ok.
when will you have more 3.55 ofws available ? and I purchased a cid from your website

So what I did was a mix between the following:
To add context: I upgraded from 160Gb HDD to 1TB 7200RPM HDD on Rebug 4.81 DEX.
- community.eu.playstation.com/t5/PS3-Support/Error-at-70-of-rebuild-process-when-adding-1tb-hdd-to-12gb-super/td-p/17599604
And,
-www.ps3hax.net/showthread.php?t=99082
The steps:
1) Enter Safe mode: "(Hold down the power button on the console waiting for the first beep, then keep it depressed until the console switches off completely. Remove your finger from the button.
Then, hold down again, wait 5(ish) seconds for the console to beep, then wait 2 further seconds for two successive beeps. After the second beep, take your finger off the power button)"
2) Select first option 3 and then 4.
If you cancel it after starting though, it will probably want u to format."
However when I go to check the free space it still says the same amount as on the previous HDD, 122GB/931GB, and it should be something like 893GB/931GB, what can I do for it to be detected properly?
To fix the incorrect free space shown which was apparently because it had all of its space unallocated and when restoring it only allocated 160gb as per previous HDD since it couldn't perform the rebuild successfully, I formatted the HDD, it kept the CFW and it now shows the correct amount of space however the data was deleted. To recover the data I restored it from a backup I did as a failsafe. So I didn't have to reinstall CFW with pendrive but had to follow some steps from this other guide:
th-cam.com/video/HyjXR9GMjfw/w-d-xo.html
Now it does say 828GB/931GB which is what is expected from a 1TB HDD.
For the trophies I backed up the whole "dev_hdd0\home" which includes the "Trophy" folder via FTP and sent it back to the new HDD the same way.
@@nicolasbuitrago8484 hey can you help me,? I installed a 500gb drive and it says only 20gb available obviously it’s unallocated how do I format it without losing my cfw?
I also got a black screen, it doesn't even start to copy stuff to the new HDD, can you please help us? :)
Should I downgrade to 3.55 as you explain in your 4.75.1 video? I am currently on 4.78.1

@@jujucattys156 I figured it out, I had to change my CFW from Evilnat to Rebug CFW to gain access to debug settings
