  • www.myboxingcoach.com - When it comes to boxing footwork for beginners, less is definitely more in my experience. For a boxing beginner, mastering micro movements in for basic ways will lead to success. This simple boxing footwork drills set up will give you the best possible chance of building boxing footwork that gives you balance, power and economy of movement.
If you cannot master the simple boxing footwork patterns that I demonstrate in this video, then you can't control yourself. If you can't control yourself, how do you hope to control an opponent? The really big factor in nailing boxing footwork as a beginner is to aim for micro movements and avoiding the common beginner boxer faults.
The boxing drill pattern I use is about as simple as it gets. A simple cross can be laid out in duct tape and this will give you the perfect template to execute controlled boxing footwork movements. The boxing drill pattern gives you a fixed point of reference, and that is the power of these types of beginner boxing drills.
The 4 sets of boxing footwork movements are:
    Movement in and out
    Lateral movement
    Diagonal movement (lead foot side)
    Diagonal movement (rear foot side)
Once you master these boxing footwork directions of movement, you can evolve to layering other skills. You can add straight punches, hooks and uppercuts. You can also add in head movements, like the duck or the slip.
If you are a boxing beginner, layering on those additional skills will be a challenge. So, ensure that you master the simple boxing footwork for beginners elements of the micro movements. Only once you are comfortable with those skills, and you are avoiding the beginner faults, should you add in the other boxing skills.
    Cheers
    Fran

Every punch tells a story. Its tells how the fighter is skilled or not, it tells if there is power, speed, accuracy, does it follow through, is it snappy, is it forced with over-tightened muscles, is it relaxed until the end, does the punch properly gauge distance, etc. The story of each punch is held in the fist coming at you. When we slip and/or move we want to move just enough to hear that story whispered in our ear.

Looks like a new gym you're in. I have to really concentrate hard to calm my feet down. This kind of exercise certainly seems like it will help. Thank you! 🥊

Good stuff. You don't need to make your opponent miss by a mile. But just an inch so you can counter

The stance feels so unnatural to me! I find my feet crossing the line thats supposed to be between em. Is that fairly common?

If you watch Juan Manuel Marquez’s first 30 fights he always stepped forward onto his heel. I don’t know how he got away with it. But I don’t know why it took Nacho over 30 fights to fix him 😂

What’s more astonishing me, is how much human being are struggling to move like a cat or a dog or a monkey…. simply watch like a cat or a leopard fight, and they look to know perfectly all this stuff, and they never went to a gym! 😂
