Ahhh I knew everything was upside down in the video.
As an Aussie we don’t claim you, you straight up have no clue and it’s hilarious
This is a great video. The only problem is grown adults looking for adequate hydration are not the target market. It’s teenagers with pockets full of their parents money.
And desensitized taste buds.
It tastes like something that should be watered down.
If thats the “only problem”, shouldn’t the parents have a responsibility to know what’s healthy for their child? I think the real problem is that it’s marketed as hydration and it is not hydrating.
@@MrAdamo It's hydrating. Just not optimally in the context of endurance exercise.
Even a regular soda is hydrating. My main gripe with it is that it tastes like shit.
@@AageKush I think Prime tastes pretty good tbh. They taste way better cold obviously lol. But i have had a few and i like em actually, they smell pretty weird though, kinda like bubblegum in a way ish. Shouldnt be worth more than 2 dollars, but i would also personally pick a prime over most drinks if im just taking one, for the gym its a completely different thing
@@MrAdamoyes, we should. And some of us are. I always just say no 😅
"This is $10. Is this okay?" Even the cashier doesn't want you to waste your money 🤣🤣
I swear this happened to me. I randomly picked up one from the store. There was no price tag. When I went to checkout, the cashier told me if I know the price.. it was 10 eur or smthng. I said now.. that is hella expensive
More like he didn't want to get half way thru the transaction, just to have to void it, when the pissed off customer screams, "WTF do you mean $20 plus tax?!?!?!?!" In my brief stint as a cashier in a convenience store, I would often warn people of pricing when it seemed there was a good chance they most likely had ZERO clue about insanely bloated convenience store pricing. The only possible downside is easily offended MF'ers that think you're assuming they're poor, and say shit like "Wutchoo think I can't afford it?!?!?!". Sometimes, ya just can't win.

Ancient romans would mix salt, water, and a splash of wine vinegar to stay hydrated. Original lemonade is sprinkle of salt, lemon juice, and water. There is a trend here. Acid for taste, water, and a sprinkle of salt ;)
Acid also plays a part with insulin. If you have vinegar before eating loads of carbs then you don't get the glucose and insulin spikes.
The wine vinegar probably played a role in making the water safe to drink. Maybe not safe from everything due to the lead pipes thing.
I find it crazy how they declare it's a drink for athletes yet all flavours, designs, promos indicate that they are marketing it towards kids...
I think that's why the sodium is so low. It's marketed to kids who have lower sodium requirements so if they are just drinking this instead of water or soda this amount of sodium won't be harmful. But if they were to drink like 3 Powerades they might be in trouble if they aren't doing strenuous activity. Just a theory.

prime is actually delicious. maybe not good hydration wise but tasty nonetheless
Last thing to note, the reason they are selling this as a sports drink and not some sort of juice is because sports drinks are less regulated compared to thinks like fruit juice or soda's. Kind of like how a lot of those gamer powder drinks are sold as supplements, still have to go through regulations, but a lot less than something like coffee.

Their marketing target is teenagers.
What is easier to market to teenagers and young men?? a sports drink or a fckin juice?
@@MHNK77 I find that interesting because I don't see teens rushing to buy the drink, it's mostly young children who are asking their parents to buy it for them, especially considering the flavor it has. Then again that is what I see from my area so I can't speak for the global market.

By the time the drink gets overstocked in the supermarkets, they've already made their money and then some if a bottle is 10$.
Not only that, the stores themselves have to buy it first, so their sales are guaranteed the moment the bottles leave the storage warehouses unless the stores have a deal which states the producer only gets paid when the product itself sells at the store, meaning the store isn't the one who handles most of the risk - and news flash, these days almost no store gets that deal anymore due to online shops.
In other words, over stocked stores doesn't mean Paul and his gang of goons didn't get their money. The stores themselves are the ones left hanging since they purchased the stock but can't sell it. So yes, they've made their money and then some by the time the stores are over stocked. The only way they'd ever lose money at this point is if they don't stop production the moment they get no orders from stores or online sales.
It's like trying to scream bloody murder when the body's been there for at least a week and the murderers are already chilling half way across the globe.

idk
I purely clicked for Prime and have to say your presentation is exceptional. Made it super easy to understand and felt like I've learnt a lot. Thanks James!
That's nearly $7 U.S. I can't possibly fathom why you'd buy that criminal swill in a convenience store, unless you're trying to show the worst case cost scenario. In a regular store here in the states, you can get that rat piss for as low as $1.69 per bottle....not that I think anyone should give even a dime to either of the Paul brothers.
First when prime came out in Denmark, it was hard to find, due to everyone buying it.
Now it super easy to find, because now people have tasted it and won't buy it again.
I actually have not tasted any prime.
People has told me it tastes bad.
Never trusted either of those ridiculous brothers or their peers! the fact that they are partnered with the UFC is outrageous and that millions of kids are hooked on this overprices stuff is frustrating! new to the channel, great breakdown, i didnt realise how important sugar is to staying hydrated!
The thing is that as informative as this video is making great solid points the reality is that the target market is the youngsters who dont know better and are influenced by their favorite internet idols and that more often than not is tough to compete with even when you have all the facts. But it's good to know there are ppl like u who expose this for what it is and that the truth is out there.
The 2 most important thing for a sports drink- glucose and sodium, how has prime failed at both of these? lol
6:05 Sodium and glucose IV's are given seperately here in the Netherlands (and i think in most of the world) While there are IV's that contain both glucose and salt i rarely see them used, just isotonic salt IVs are just as effective as the ones with sugar. Most patients will recieve a 0.9% NaCl IV, glucose is rarely used, mostly for patients that need reduced salt intake.
I don't exercise nearly as often as I should, and I haven't been interested in training for about 10 years. Still - this is the best video I've seen in as long as I can remember. Top-tier tips.
Luckily enough, my doctor taught me the whole "add salt to water"-thing when I struggled with dehydration years ago. Absolute lifesaver
Finally, been waiting for someone to explain this to people. Thank you.
anyone that needs this explained is a lost cause to begin with. this is a dumb video
it has been explained in a ton of videos including by Logan. most ppl get more than enough sodium, this is a product for the casual consumer not athletes.
Personally, I don't give a shit about the "hydration benefits" I just like the taste personally, so I drink it. I've always known it's not good for me. I don't drink it to be healthy.
@@pvyj Same honestly lol. Sports drinks usually taste like shit so this is nice. When I work out I just chug water.
@@pvyj Advertising it as a sports drink better than the actual top dogs is the scam part here.
If they were just selling prime as a juice for kids, that they'd be right.
All I see in store is kids asking their parents for Prime, never adults. UFC and Bayern should be ashamed of themselves.
Fun fact: Gatorade is THE original hydration drink and it was scientifically made to be the most optimal rehydration by university of Florida for their football team.
-Florida Gators absolutely dominated the games after they began using Gatorade, untill other teams got their own rehydration drinks
Great video. Unfortunately, it seems like the general public is completely unaware of these hydration mechanisms you've explained, and so KSI and Logan Paul have capitalised on that lack of knowledge
It’s just a drunk kids want. Nothing more.
I doubt Logan Paul really understands it himself, to be fair.
Hey that's how a lot of rich people get rich. You capitalise on what people think is good, rather than what's actually good.
People actually don't really care about it being a "hydration drink" they just want a drink
not only that, they completely ignore Logan’s entire shady past. It’s annoying that someone can still be so famous after so many scams. But that’s the world we live in
I used powdered electrolytes from Bulk. I put 2 heaped scoops into 1L of drink, I usually use Don Simon blue lemonade and normal lemonade for glucose mixed 50/50. Best hydration drink I've tried. Got me off those energy drinks etc haven't touched them in ages.
Im an ex-teacher, and its depressing how obsessed so many teenagers are with Prime. The whole thing is so predatory
I live in Greece and at some point they started popping up everywhere. The price in stores averaged between 9-13 Euros, though one local supermarket that stocks up on imported stuff had them for sale at 6 Euros. Today I went to a toy store to get some presents for a mate's kid and saw they had Prime at 2.20 Euros (so it was my call to try it). Now I looked up on the official website and it costs nearly 30$. How the hell do they price these? Like, a can of Monster all over Europe ranges between 2-3 Euros, but from 2 to 30, that's a massive gap.
I’m a stick with no interest in personal training, and no idea how or why I watched this. But you sir are clearly a nice bloke, very clever and you present the info perfectly!!!
Great video. It’s actually mind blowing that Gatorade or Powerade haven’t tried to come out with a viral video with some celebrity partner to debunk prime and slow down their momentum. Vintage incumbent brand with a slow reaction losing market share to a worse product with better advertising.
If PepsiCo and Coca-Cola see Prime as a threat to their market share, they will probably just buy it. That's what Coca-Cola did with Vitamin Water. 50 got hella rich and didn't die tryin' when he sold quarter water for $2 a pop.
Who’s to say they aren’t in on it and getting paid to keep quiet
@@Picla_Peremohybecause they make way off sales than what Logan Paul could possibly pay them
LMAO at these dinosaur companies coming up with a viral video, especially when they're just barely better nutrition-wise.
I’m sure both of them are waiting for the perfect time to strike lmao 😂
The worst part of Prime is how enamored children have become with it. At least in the US, a lot of kids treat the stuff like a second currency.
In South Africa it’s R40 which is $2 in USA. Even here we don’t buy it because it’s too expensive.
Energade which is the official drink for the Springbok rugby team costs R12. Which is about US$0.70. That’s our to seller
Science video, anti prime video and gaterade promotion video all in one. Love it
It's a pretty shitty promotion of gatorade since he said its a waste of money to buy it.
@@LouieBaLLz he could have omitted important info like their zero-sugar option to cause harm
Think it's also important to point out the large amounts of caffeine in prime. Not only is it not an adequate hydration drink but it is giving the target market i.e. kids, large doses of caffeine which obviously gives them a buzz and keeps them coming back to buy it. Also, the caffeine gives the sensation that you feel energised but is packaged up as 'hydration'. So bottom line is you're not hydrated you're on a caffeine high!
That’s only in the energy drinks, not the bottles reviewed in this video. Still a pile of garbage that works extremely well scamming in young kids
That is only in the cans of Prime.
I used to be water only then started playing around with different hydration solutions depending on my activity.
I sweat a lot but it’s not overly salty. I started using diluted Powerade and Gatorade then over the last couple of years I have been buying EAA/Electrolyte powder and carb powder and making my own drinks up depending on what I need. It’s brilliant as was said you can choose your own ratio.
My EAA/Electolyte powder is $60 a tub and I’ll get 50-60l per tub. The carb powder is $20 and might last me 4 months. Add water and it’s stupid cheap.
These things appeared everywhere in US stores pretty much overnight. I was definitely drawn in by the packaging and had no idea it was by Logan Paul (glad now I didn't buy it!) Will stick to the classic hydration bevs, thanks for the in-depth critique!
Just drink a cold water bottle
Excellent video! Appreciate the breakdown. Here in the deserts of New Mexico, we buy the $9 can of powder Gatorade that makes 5 gallons. DIY to-go packets or wash and reuse bottles.
Great content loving the way you explain things so that ordinary folk like me can understand.
Anything Logan Paul tries to sell or promote should be immediately met with skepticism, or better yet, totally ignored.
Chemistry person here (uneducated formerly) a quick look at the ingredients clearly shows that prime is just hyper addictive sugar water.
I was at a local fair last month, it was crazy how many stalls had pallets of this crap, it's not available in stores here and I didn't see anyone buying or drinking it.
Would love to see a "Worth the Hype" looking into Huel's products. And hear your thoughts on using them, depending on a persons goals. I'm finding them a really convenient way to "eat" on a tight schedule and avoid grabbing something less healthy from the shop when on the go
just saw a german youtuber eating these huel instant food like mac n cheese and pasta carbonara - result: it wasnt good at all and none of the testers have liked it at all.
@@christianprehn7919 you mean they didn't like the flavour or the content of it? I was thinking more about the Huel drinks but considering trying those out too
@@christianprehn7919oh I've just seen James has released a video on Huel two hours ago! Perfect 😆
Just drink water, put a bit of salt in it if you want to but not needed for most people.
people drink it because they are healthy alternatives to other drinks. Not because of actual effect
When your drink is so expensive that cashiers warn you about the outrageous price.
Unfortunately, great marketing overshadows everything else. It doesn't matter to most if Prime isn't a great hydration drink. They see it everywhere and hear so many celebrities praise it for tasting good. Not that sports companies are signing with Prime, it's only going to get worse in that regard. Thanks for the informative video. Now I know better.
You can have the best product but no marketing, and it'll never matter how good it is. Vice versa.
Good video, I went down a rabbit hole after I started getting headaches after bjj practice despite drinking lots of water. After drinking sports drinks that have other electrolytes (Sodium/Calcium/Potassium/Magnesium/B vitamins & sugar) had these headaches much less often.
Would you say you have a balanced diet? That is one thing he had not mentioned once by the time I stop watching.
Rain on the roof is something I never thought I needed in a video
Excellent video James. One thing I realized with PRIME, as I got some to try is that (not surprising if you think about it) the flavor is marketed towards children's palettes. Children have more taste receptors which is what the taste (the levelling of the sweet, the flavor and hit or sour and tangy) hits kids better than adults where as a Gatorade or Powerade hit the same as the flavors are more mellow.
Exactly, the target audience isn't people who want serious rehydration. It's the fanbases on both Logan and KSI, most of the being teenagers
@@066kshitizvsingh4 For Logan Paul that's true, but not necessarily for KSI
When I was a footballplayer my mates would start drinking all these sportsdrinks when they became popular- even those were rather expensive and taste like crap. I just kept making my own isotonic drink: 3 parts uncarbonated mineral Water, 1 Part Applejuice. On matchdays I‘d add a little honey.
Did you outperform them as a consequence of your drink?
@@W_CPT Well, I was the captain of my squad so I guess at least I never underperformed 😂
@@No1BRC Respect!🚀
@@weird-guy I hope I didn't sound like I was trying to appear like a badass prolevel type footballplayer😂 I had a fun team and we were pretty Ok to keep up with the farm teams of bigger clubs. To your question: No, I didn't make the juice myself. I used naturally cloudy apple juice- 25 years ago there weren't many organic options so I thought that would be the best alternative and I liked the taste of it 🙂
"Get in the car" is the best quote i ever heard out of this mans mouth
The flip side is that prime is a healthier drink for people sitting at home watching youtube, which is arguably the intended market.
