      @@meccquest13 yeah it's strange that they would basically patch out usefulness of one of the newer features. They must have data on how players use the sweepy, right? If so, they would realize that making it overheat is horrible. What other uses for it are there that an auto sweeper/conveyor can't do better?

    About the usefulness of sweepy after the new upgrade, I think we all knew it was an exploit that would be fixed sooner or later.
    The sweepy still has a couple of unique features that make it quite useful, first it can "mop" anything and won't have a "too much liquid" problem. And the reall cool thing about it, is that it'll mark everything it picks up for sweeping. (You know, the command that before sweepy, only the player could do manually)
    So for example you can set a sweepy to come and clean your "great hall" after your dupes, in the next room, and set a conveyor loader with "sweep only" that'll pick all the edible stuff and put it in a chlorine box. (I personally even allow manuall use in case i find some food lying around the map and mark it to be swept)

  • @TheMule71
    @TheMule71 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi!
    @14:25 I've done quite a bit of those double viscogel locks recently. Here's what I've learned: you created the right viscogel "pile" the left one, then built one tile above, now you have gas trapped inside. I build two solid tiles inside instead, in between the two viscogel piles, _then_ the ceiling. Once the top tile is built, I deconstruct the two in the middle, and voilà, vacuum seal.
    @12:20 As the naphtha guy, I approve of this. But once you have tons of petroleum lingering around, you can use it as coolant for refineries. I was expecting you loaded that on your new refinery. That naphtha served us well, it deserve a vacation. :)
    Seriously, petroleum is better for this, it transfers heat better, meaning shorter pipes. And even if you want to spread heat around, mixing radiant and granite pipes is the way to go with petroleum. Given abundance of both, the only application in which I'd prefer naphtha over petroleum is a petroleum boiler powered by steel refinenement.
    @33:08 I don't know if you consider this exploity, but it's a thing so minor that has almost zero impact, that you could do it just because it's cool. I'd put a mesh tile right under the water vent. This way, you start cooling the left wall at the battery/transformer level, as water falling down forms a bead instead of teleporting down on the floor. It's very minor, since right now water falls, hits the ground and flashes into cool steam (relatively speaking) and immediately sucks heat from the surrounding. But, since heats has trouble travelling downwards, the battery is at risk of overheating. So either you put a insulated solid tile under it, and stop water there (at risk of overheating the refinery), or you use the bead mechanics to spread heat all along the left wall.

    You could replace the Sandstone "Thermal Resistor" with Airlock doors hooked up to a Thermometer. Like is typically done in a cooling setup. That way you'd have the option of running your rockets as fast as you'd like.

      I was thinking about the same thing, and it would probably save him from wasting thermium on transformers and natural gas generators

  • @Tamizushi
    @Tamizushi 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    This hot industrial room could replace quitte a bit of other things in your base. You could send all the excess polluted water there and let the heat/steam turbines purify it it, which means you could remove your water reservoirs, water sieves, composts, and some of your pumps. Plus, since pressure is gonna get very high overtime, temperature is gonna fluctuate a lot less.
    Also, if you want to save a bit of water when your rocket launches, maybe an idea would be to pump the excess oxygen from your deodorizers there. Oxygen floats over steam in this game so it should evaporate before your steam does.

    Hey John, if you want to stop manually digging that regolith on the right side of your silo (gantry) just put bunker tiles on that corner just under the bunker doors and all the regolith that is gonna end up there will get crushed by the bunker doors each time they operate

  • @danielsattler5677

    The manual use command for your methane drop off has been like that for a while. The loader can only hold 1000kg, so the first drop is 1000kg, but then it only dumps out 20kg a second, so the next drop offs are all tiny as there's no space to put it. Your autosweepers do the same on big jobs when filling up the loaders.

  • @MSoave
    @MSoave 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You should use a solid material filter and grab the methane and hand it transfer directly to your natural gas storage.

    My suggestion for the freezing oxygen would be raise the temperature of the liquid oxygen. Might just be that the response time of the thermometer is not quick enough if the set temperature is too low.

  • @PaddyTheGamerPop
    @PaddyTheGamerPop ปีที่แล้ว +1

    At 15:41 - so, you have two adjacent tiles that need to be vacuumed out? Instead of installing a pump, power supply, and piping, and then waiting for gas to be pumped, you could just install an airlock door. When it closes, it deletes the gasses. Plus you don't have to uninstall it - just leave it open, and then you can restrict permissions if needed in the future (for whatever reason).

  • @sebbes333

    *@Francis John*
    why not connect the industrial sauna to the rocket silo?
    Then you don't need any cooling because it's al very hot.
    (You could also dump any excess pH2O into the rocket silo, instead of into space, do get free dirt & steam & a slightly lower temperature in there)

    • @S_Black

      Occasionally CO2 from meteors gets into the silo. You don't want that in the sauna

  • @Mr402TA

    Hey Francis John, I just thought of something you might find useful. That gas pipe element sensor and vent setup you like for cleaning out lines, that would work REALLY well on the hydrogen line of a Rodruigez startup :)

  • @thesentientneuron6550
    @thesentientneuron6550 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    How about purposely leaving a blob of hydrogen in the oxygen chamber? That way, there will always be a way to read the temperature of the oxygen and you only need a minuscule amount of hydrogen to make this work. Option two is to just replace the temperature sensor with a hydro sensor. If you really need to, you can free up one more tile of space below the liquid pump to the left of the PH2O vent to squeeze in a temp sensor there.
    Edit: I see you doing that at the end there, just use insulated tiles made of ceramic or insulation.

  • @qnx4fs
    @qnx4fs 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Should replace the sandstone tiles on the sauna with steel doors and a temperature sensor inside the sauna so you can control the heat without having to wait in between each launch. Same kinda thing with a petroleum boiler using a door to control the temp

    • @marcusl5605
      @marcusl5605 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Three main issue is that the system would have to be at least 3 wide because you need the vacuum between the door for it to act as an effective insulator. I honestly think that the better option is more stream as a buffer for the rockets. Could even make a loop to distribute the heat.

    For the water pipe that crosses your rocket, place a liquid vent inside the p. water room with automation tied to the rocket return and launch. The vent is open when the rocket launches or returns so the water stays inside the room and closed when the rocket is idle so that the water can flow to your base

  • @custume
    @custume 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Oh I try that comment you made about radiant pipe and works great, I test it with steam and the steam say with the same temp, just a couple of problems is that the pipes can not cross any tile or debris and the place need to be in vacuum, also no bridges, if you add a long pipe without passing anything it will work great.

    Why are some liquid and gas pipes in blue colour?

    • @OverworkedITGuy
      @OverworkedITGuy 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you're talking about the pipes in the overlay views.
      * insulated vs non-insulated pipes vs radiant pipes
      * The color depends on what is inside the pipes as each element/substance has it's own color. Oxygen is blue, where hydrogen is pink, CO2 is black, etc. Clean water is light blue, Super-coolant and ethanol are also various shades of blue. Polluted water is greenish-brown, crude is black, petroleum is gold/yellow
      * For the temperature overlay, the pipes will show color based on their temperature. Where the pipes running gases and liquids that are cold will show in the bluer color range. Such as the pipes serving as the cooling loop around the base for sections he wants to keep livable without exo-suits. The hydrogen coming off the hydrogen vent comes out at 500+ degrees and isn't being cooled because it doesn't really matter by the time it hits the liquifier setup. Much of the water not part of the cooling loop, is running through industrial equipment that also increase it's temperature. Same for the steam. All of those will show red because they are hot.
      * if you mean the pipes showing blue when not looking at the temperature or gas/liquid overlays, it's a combination of the material used, and the visual display of gases outside of the pipes mixing (mostly oxygen) in those tiles.

    Dumb question, but why are some liquid pipes blue?

    Why only 2 cargo modules? I've never made it to rocketry so I don't know.

    • @austinglander1337
      @austinglander1337 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Each cargo module exponentially increases how much fuel it takes to launch the rockets.

    • @aristeas3176
      @aristeas3176 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Weight
      Cargo modules weigh a lot more (10x more) than research modules, and are therefore more expensive for fuel.
      The max. number of cargo bays (with h2 and LOX, 10k km) is 3, and it'd require a bit over 600kg of O2 and H2.
      Fuel isn't linearly effective - the more fuel you burn, the less you weigh
      oni-assistant.com/tools/rocketcalculator does a better job explaining than me
