So the hose i bought is 1/4 so would the gun still need a 3/8 male and then a 1/4female quick connect for the hose?

Yes for this gun, the fitting has to be 3/8. The 1/4 is too small. you will need to find a 3/8 fitting thread to 1/4 plug
