In order to try out for the team your command has to “sponsor” you to go for the try out. There’s usually some paper work involved that your command has to sign and approved you going to the tryouts. When you get to the try outs you’ll be put on TAD which means you’re temporary on assigned to a schools unit this being the marine wrestling tryout. If you make it pass the tryouts and they say you made the team you’ll be given a certain amount of days to move all your stuff from your previous command to this new marine corps wrestling team command. For example if you’re stationed in Camp Pendleton you’ll have to check out of your unit and move all your personal belongings to where the marine corps wrestling team is stationed at.
Me and my buddy even though we may be 14 we are training for the usmc and we have been every day we plan on joining together and we wrestle everyday to get better and better, this is real motivation Semper Fi!
High school or military? For high school, just find out who the wrestling coach is. Anyone at the main office should know who to point you to. You'll need to have a physical sports exam done by a doctor, and proof of insurance. I got a shitty a $35/year one, but it was just good enough to be legal. Wrestling season starts after football season, so Day 1 of practice will be somewhere in September. You will work and push yourself harder than you ever have in your entire life. Wrestling workouts make football seem like child's play. Wrestling is the only high school sport where people aren't cut, they quit because of the difficulty and intensity. Most of the quitting will happen within the first two weeks. Should you make it, you'll find you'll have a great sense of confidence in anything you do in life thereafter, and won't fear challenges, because you've done one of the hardest things possible.
What they don't tell you, is ya already gotta be godly at wrestling. I started my sophomore year and I'm in my junior year now, would love to join the marine team, but with my current win/loss record, it ain't happening.
Mathew Shanklin Keep pushing bro. Sophomore year I was trash & junior year I placed 1st @ districts & did alright at regionals. It’s my last year to show out as I’m a senior & my focus is regionals.

I've often wondered that. How would a well-conditioned wrestler, say, right after high school, do in boot camp. I was always sure they'd have a hell of an edge over the rest.
