  • For those new to MIDI setup, Steve sets up The NDLR with 3 Volcas (Bass, FM, & Beats) and the Deepmind 12. He shows how to connect them via MIDI and gets a little jam going, trying some (very!) random patches on the DM12. :-)
    Intro and connecting Volca Bass
    3:01 - Connecting Volca FM
    5:07 - Connecting Volca Beats
    6:00 - Jam on just Volcas
    7:46 - Add the DM12
    8:10 - More jamming and trying some random DM12 patches
    Buy The NDLR at: conductivelabs...

    Love my NDLR. I wrote a set of Cherry Audio Voltage 2 modules to control the NDLR with virtual CV. This gives very fine control over performances and opens up all sorts of generative possibilities. As the heart of a generative set of modular synths, the NDLR is just stunningly effective and fun.

      Yea, it would be nice to have a patch library for this for patterns.

    • @ConductiveLabs
      @ConductiveLabs  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Custom Arpeggio patterns are something we'd like to have. Not ready to promise it yet but it's possible. Custom scales are not going to happen in the first release. It breaks the model for handling chord transitions (sonority) for the user. Or it requires an elaborate editing environment so you can assign your own chords to scales, which a lot of people without music theory backgrounds would struggle with.

    • @ConductiveLabs

      We added a pattern editor with 20 built-in patterns and 20 user slots to save patterns. You can see a demo here th-cam.com/video/A7g10ROueuE/w-d-xo.html

    To be honest I did not find this demo very good, but I am sure the NDLR can drive into more musical jams given the right sounds and effects.

      @@geraldhenrickson7472 The issue was mainly that no good patches on the connected synths were prepared, making it hard to like what the noodler was actually doing. So I would have liked better preparation. Still have NDLR on my wishlist though!

  • @dreamabyss5423

    By the time he has all of this hooked up it sounds like bunch of different musicians playing different songs. Even though they are in the same key and beat, it's a mess. From what I've seen from NDLR demos, less is more. I think the Volca Bass and the Deep Mind would have made the best combo and I would have liked to hear just those 2. Or, change the patch on the Deep Mind to not be so random compared to what is going on with the Volcas?

    • @johncaccioppo1142
      @johncaccioppo1142 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is a product demo, right?
      He did a rather odd transposition at the beginning of that performance, then grooved away in a different key, which is exactly what the NDLR is meant to do, albeit the choice of key changes is something a skilled musician demonstrates as improvisational talent. The NDLR can't make those decisions (nor should it, imo), nor can choose the best presets for your performance, and as you probably know, if you just scroll through presets you are always going to get a trainwreck of different moods.
      So while you are correct, it's not a very fair criticism. The NDLR just did what it was told to do, and it can do way more than what he showed here. There are so many videos of talented players doing more artistic things on TH-cam with the NDLR, including the playlist compiled by Conductive Labs, you should check them out!
      Or make your own video...

      Can the NDLR trigger a sequence from another sequencer or can it only trigger a "note on" or other data like that??

    • @ConductiveLabs
      @ConductiveLabs  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@uiliumpowell4684 It can send a MIDI Start command when you start a NDLR part, which will start other MIDI devices that are listening for it.

    • @uiliumpowell4684
      @uiliumpowell4684 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ConductiveLabs Thanks for the feedback. That sounds unique. I haven't heard of any other products that could do that. Can it then manipulate the other sequencer's data with transpose or scale conformity or anything else? Do you have any videos on this? I really like the idea of controlling and manipulating other little sequence parts like they were single notes, in real time or not.

    • @ConductiveLabs
      @ConductiveLabs  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Anything with MIDI transport controls will send a Start/Stop command, and sometimes they support "pausing", which is a MIDI continue command. NDLR can do all of that too. Unfortunately, MIDI has no concept of scale, key or mode so it can't tell another device (other than another NDLR) what scale to use. The NDLR will transpose MIDI input to The Key and Mode you have selected and output it to your sound module.

    Hello Steve! Great Idea! Wish you good luck with this project. I have a question about MIDI clock. Is it stable?

    • @ConductiveLabs
      @ConductiveLabs  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Alaxander, can you be more specific about your MIDI clock question? MIDI clock should be stable on a MIDI cable with modern processors with microsecond timers and relatively high clock speeds. However, USB jitter is likely present as on all USB MIDI interfaces. We will do more precise measurements when we are further along in development.

  • @owenkitto27
    @owenkitto27 ปีที่แล้ว

    What midi splitter is this ?

    • @DarrylMcGee
      @DarrylMcGee ปีที่แล้ว

      That is an Amptone Lab MIDI splitter. It's a good one because it's active (powered) so works with more MIDI devices than an unpowered splitter. Conductive Labs also has a mini 4x4 MIDI router called MRCC 880, if you have other MIDI controllers to switch between. And it's a USB MIDI interface with 4 USB MIDI virtual inputs and outputs. But if you don't have enough equipment to justify a MIDI router, the Amptone has been reliable for me. The Sixty Four Pixels Banana Split is also an option if you want more outputs.
