Thank you so much for this! I was able to make it work on PS5 as well with the Guitar Configurator using the same settings like in the video. I used my Wii guitar with an pico adapter, I just had to bind whammy to any keyboard key, otherwise the input delay was crazy. This is a game changer! Thank you!

You can configure the game so strumming activates the buttons by going into JoyToKey Options Tab and using the Input Processing Button Mapping button. You have to jumble up the keys to get it to work though since Button 1 + Down won't actually make Button 1 activate on a down strum. You have to make it so Button 2 + Down makes Button 1 Strum, then just remap the keys accordingly. Can't get this to work for the 5th button, though, so it's not perfect but you can play up to Hard mode no problem!

I have tried to follow your instructions exactly but I am not sure what is wrong. When I try to trigger button 1 + down to make any button strum it does not work. This also applies to other button numbers and on JoyToKey it does not register the input
Long explanition but stick with me....
To get up and down strumming look for the 5 buttons that activate Green, Red, Yellow, Blue and Orange and note those down. For my controller it is buttons 1, 2, 4, 3, and 5. Do not map anything to those buttons or the up/down strum buttons.
Find 10 buttons that are not activated. For me I used buttons 15 through to 24. Map them as 2 sets of 5 with the correct keyboard letters. THEN go to Options and change them to the 5 buttons that you noted earlier and add Up Strum to one set, and Down Strum to the other set.
For example if Green is button 1, then map button 15 and 20 to D - select the Options tab and change the action of button 15 to activate on button 1 plus down strum, and the action of button 20 to button 1 and up strum.

Thanks this worked! Hopefully they add official support for peripherals. While this method does work, with how they have the songs charted my hands started cramping really fast since the songs aren't really designed around using a guitar hero guitar. Hopefully if they do add support, its for consoles as well. My 8 year old gaming PC just can't handle fortnite, lol.

This is cool, thanks. I got my 360 guitar to work. The main issue, since the strumming doesn't work, you can't hold the notes and strum. So for example if it's 1+3, 1, 1+3 notes coming down, on guitar hero, you could hold 1 the whole time, and press 3 when it comes up, and strum to "activate" it. Since strumming doesn't work, you have to press and release 1 each time

I have everything set correctly. When I hit the lane 1 note it hits the 4th on at the same time and it messes up the score. Could it be my guitar or something else?

Thanks to @GenkiJ4M for the initial idea. Here's a long explanation to get Up and Down strumming to work but stick with me....

where do you change the action to activate? I can bind 15 to 24 as the keyboard, but not sure where you make them activate only when you strum? im lost

I'm having a really hard time parsing how to do this. Is there any chance of screenshot of your button mapping tab? I don't quite understand what to do because I've never tried using a program like this.

Under Joystick 1, map button 15-19, as D F J K L, then 20-24 as D F J K L.
Then, go onto the Options tab, and under Input Processing is a "Button Mapping" button. Click on this.
Then go to button 15, and under the two drop down options on the right, put Button 1 in the top box, and whatever your strum up is, in the second box. Do the same for buttons 16-24.
The numbers may differ slightly for you depending on what your controller is/what you set it up as. But essentially, you want button 15 to activate only when you hold the first fret, and strum up.

There were two key mistakes I was doing; I was still assigned 1-5 with dfjkl, so I cleared those. And then I was also button mapping 1 to have 15 in top box and strum in 2nd box, rather than button 15 having 1 in top box. Just had them muddled up. Thanks so much for explaining :D
Trouble is, seems like Fornite isn't quite designed with guitars in mind atm as I'm finding it pretty difficult to keep up on hard and expert, even tho I have no issues with those kinda levels on rock band and cloen hero :P It's reading the button pressing, it's just everything is fast and all over the place lol.

i tried the guitar hero xplorer guitar on this (i have one in mint condition that was bought new back when gh2/gh3 were popular around 2007), and it works, the button mapping with joy2key, i tried both with and without strum and it works but its not fun, the notes just aren't the same since the strum is kinda flaky and you either have to repress every note (so like a hammer on/pull off but you have to re-engage each one, you can't hold down or nothing like that), and pairs of double notes suck for that reason since u gotta repress them. if u add the strum, you are strumming every note and its hard and buggy with the strum and some lag from it (buttons have no lag but the strum feels weird). this is on a pretty modern rig with a good gpu and low latency, so like it works but since the notes and compatibility just aren't there, sucks have to wait until a proper guitar is released and the notes r adapted to work with it, otherwise its kinda a mess since its so different from old guitar hero / rock band games
Managed to connect the Xbox 360 guitar to my series x and unfortunately the button combo is not ideal. The wammy on the guitar is a left thumb stick with massive drift and the star power is the menu button.

I followed everything exactly but for some reason my 360 rock band guitar isn't being recognized in game. it properly shows the inputs registering in JOYTOKEY the same way it does in the video so im not sure why im having this issue. any help would be appreciated.
I had to run joy2key in admin and compatibility mode for windows xp service pack 3, then it just worked.

The Arduino guitar I have is recognized as a controller in the settings on fort idk if others are like that but it was so much easier that way

is there a way to continue holding down a note while continuing to play the other notes? for example, a string of Green and Red notes come up. Do i have to let go of the green note to have the red note register as a hit, or can i continue to hold the green note while I hit the red note and both counts as a hit?
The game seems to work as all taps so unfortunately you can't hold lower fret buttons and have the game only recognize the high note.
for some reason my xbox controller consistantly alt tabs on my pc making it unusable, i do have a 360 adapter. i was wondering if you or anyone would have a solution for me, maybe there is a way i can have a wired connection ?

Yes I have been picking up my keyboard and using the F1 through F5 keys haha. It isn't perfect but I don't know where to get a good guitar controller

for RB4 wireless xbox one guitar, do I need a receiver to plug in the PC or can I BT connect to it? If yes to receiver, any recommendation of what receiver works best for it?
Search up how to hook it up to Clone Hero. You will need a Windows 10 Controller receiver (receiver that connects xbox one/series controllers) and a program called RB4InstrumentMapper, so if those are in the video then you've got the correct one. After you're done with that, follow the same Joytokey method.
ive set my queued inputs low, my button debounce high, but when i tap once it sends like 5 inputs at once.

How can you revert the changes in the configurator, back to how 760 creations set his guitars up? (I'm using a 760 creations guitar like you.)
you should have backed up your profile before you made the changes.
There's a "LoadSave Preset" in the configurator. Save 760's bindings and give it a name you'll know. After binding for FNFestival, save that preset too. Now you can load both presets whenever you want.
What about for the recent pro modes?
joytokey doesnt work for me in fortnite but it does in notepad. i already tried running as administrator and switching compatibility mode and it doesnt work

There is, I have my track speed at 1.5x. While in the song selection lobby, go to your settings, then Game settings, then at the bottom you can see your Festival settings, including A/V offset, Input offset, Track Speed, and Background opacity.
Only question I have is, by changing your guitars frets to different keys does it screw up clone hero binds?
If you use this same guitar in Clone Hero, yes, it will unfortunately.

I tested myself and it worked fine for me in Clone Hero while Joy2Key was still running with chosen keybinds

I've been playing this mode, and it's really fun. Although i don't like that it's a rotating list of like seven songs, and that you have to buy more songs that you want to keep. But it is fun, I'll probably only buy the songs that i REALLY want tho.

Any Arduino guitar would probably be the best so you can natively map the keys instead of using JoyToKey, but for this game really any guitar that you can connect to your PC will be sufficient

Great tutorial. Having issues though please help. I have a pi pico and everything programmed and detected the buttons well however when in game it this will go well then will show they are being held. nothing will unhold the buttons they will just show pressed even though I am not pressing them. any guidance?
hmm. went to an input tester and its showing pressed there too. this is my first time programing and trying so im not sure what I did wrong. its not the switches they are new mechanical ones and even if I remove the switch from the circuit and just tap the ground to the positive it stays showing pressed when removed. key logger is showing its being pressed several hundred times per press. using denounce and dequeue rate I was able to get it to 80 but I can not adjust further.

@@pearlactually yes but not in the most elegant of ways. I set it up as a gamepad and used another software to emulate it as a xbox controller. I used xoutput.

No, that's just how the game works. Each note requires a button press. You'd have to do some modding to make it work more like a traditional rock band game
You can setup Up and Down strumming but the game still sorta works like all taps inthat you can't hold down low notes and have only the high notes recognized.
Imagine epic makes GH controllers that are replicas of the ones in the game

You won't need to use JoyToKey, you can change your settings in the Guitar Configurator tool, see 5:48

Joy to key uses direct input , so if should read anything that you can connect into it in some way and be able to bind it to the keyboard as long as it can have some sort of USB connection. I don't think I've run into a controller that doesn't read on joy 2 key so you should be golden bro
