Swami Sarvapriyanandaji Maharaj, a great
scholarly monk from the Ramakrishna Order
About the Speaker:
Swami Sarvapriyananda is a renowned monk of the Ramakrishna Math and
Mission. After passing out with a degree in Business Management from
Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar, he joined the Ramakrishna
Order in 1994. He has been serving the Ramakrishna Math and Mission for
over 20 years now in various capacities including Vice Principal of the
Deoghar Vidyapith Higher Secondary School, Principal of the Sikshana
Mandira Teachers' Training College at Belur Math, and the first Registrar
of the Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda University at Belur Math. At
present, he is an Acharya at the monastic probationer’s training centre at
Belur Math. Recently, he has been ordained Assistant Minister, Vivekananda
Society of Southern California, Los Angeles, USA.
Swamiji has been a speaker at TEDx, IIM Ranchi. Besides premier Indian
institutes like the IITs and IISc, he has also delivered lectures on
Vedanta extensively across the USA and Australia-New Zealand including
noted universities such as the University of Queensland, University of
Sydney, University of Adelaide, Victoria University, and University of
North Texas etc. His interests lie in the fields of Indian and Western
Philosophy, Spirituality, Psychology, Management Sciences and Education.
His last lecture series in 2012 and 2014 at our institute have attracted

I have tremendous respect for the Mahatmas who simplify our ancient philosophy and explain it to us in terms we can understand and use. However, I would earnestly request the enlightened Swamijis to also talk about how we need to reject prejudices and blind following of practices like forbidding women in temples, animal sacrifice, etc, and also how much harm we do to ourselves and society by succumbing to weaknesses like greed, lust, jealousy, malice, hatred, etc. It is only the Mahatmas who have the power to motive us into wanting to be good and do good to others.

I remember an incident where I saw a snake trying to enter our house via backdoor, as I was approaching the backdoor I saw something running away so I moved fast to see what it was and saw a snake running away very quickly to a pool of rain water collected 1meter away from the backdoor hiding on the surface of the water and stayed still, I thought the snake was a fool because I could see it very clearly in front of me, its not hidden and as I was thinking about the situation and in thatmoment just for less then 1 sec I moved my eyes away from the snake and as I looked back at it, it was totally gone, vanished. Like it was just disappeared in the atmosphere. I looked towards my left and right everywhere around that water pool but failed to find it and couldn't tell in which direction it went. I was stunned and felt like a dumb because I thought that snake was the fool but it was me who was a fool to underestimate it because it tricked me in a such way that I didn't understand the snake hidden maneuver to get dissappear without leaving behind any clue. The snake had concentration on me in such a way that it was looking for one small eye movement away from it so that it can go unnoticed . So I do believe snakes concentration is unbelievable.
