  • Swami Sarvapriyananda elaborates on the allegory of the two birds in the Mundaka Upanishad in a lecture given at the Hollywood Temple on 11th December 2016. He goes on to describe how of the two birds sitting on the same tree, one is emblematic of the empirical self, and the other symbolizes the eternal, transcendental self

    This TWO BIRD episode in Mundakopanishad is very intriguing. Dualists misuse it to uphold their own beliefs and theories. I am grateful to Swamiji for clarifying it so nicely weaving it into the warp and weft of monistic view point. This Swamiji is an Avtar in Advaitic tradition.

    • @kesavatadipatri9078
      @kesavatadipatri9078 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Who is misusing it? Have open mind. The upanishad never says the lower bird realizing that there are no two birds. read the upanishad before blabbering something.

      @@kesavatadipatri9078 Well actually the Upanishad does says that. Maybe you should try to realize it if you are an advaitin. But if you are a dualist, no need to take the effort. You will realize Advaita in yout own time. Dont have to regard something as true or false. Both Advaita and Dvaita are true from their own grounds of interpreatation though Advaita is the ultimate state and philosophy.

    • @EternalLife-108
      @EternalLife-108 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's the other way around. The advaitins misuse the Upanishads to uphold their on beliefs and theories, and thereby confuse and mislead the gullible people.

    The problem with living a worldly life is that we build up momentum, and it becomes more difficult to change our way of living. In this sense the Swami and Swami Vivekananda’s advice to go ahead and enjoy the world as much as we want is not good. The more we try to enjoy the world the more difficult it becomes to stop trying to enjoy it. Every physical law applies on the subtle and spiritual levels as well. As above, so below. So best to strive for sobriety as much and as soon as possible.

    Swamiji gets distracted often by the latecomers to his discourse. People must occupy seats from the front and leave last seats to latecomers so that he won’t be disturbed often. So nice of him he pauses to point them to vacant seats in the front. Hope the learned audience realize this and try to be on time.

    The nature of human mind is such that it is in a constant search for novelty. Everything gets monotonous after a point of time. In this world one can never find anything totally fulfilling and and worthy enough to surrender to apart from the divine almighty. Anything presented to its highest potential shall also fail to capture the mind after a period of time. Only and only GOD can be ever attractive and ever captivating. And to attain that God one must be constant search for the divine within. It's more like searching yourself and finding God and searching God to find yourself. Now not to grow dilemmas like man is God. When a child is born by default a mother is born too and vice-versa. In search for God man finds himself and vice-versa.

    The story of ghost who tries to straighten the dogs tail is very interesting. To me, the ghost, the mind trying to straighten the tail ... a repetitive work, a work with loop. Keeping the mind busy in that (any) loop one can escape....
    Is that the trick to find something where we can keep busy our minds doing that in loop indefinitely and meanwhile we can escape from that?
