That is because the primary songwriter is Frank Black, otherwise known as Black Francis...If you haven't heard Frank Black's Frank Black w I Heard Romona Sing and Teenager of the yr...you are missing out. Excellent albums.
This is truly one of the greatest songs ever written, even with the high standard Pixies set over 30 years ago. Indie Cindy is a top 5 Pixies song. It has it all.
@@Swamped117 Yes, and the album should have been celebrated as the fuckin masterpiece it was !!!! I mean, as a fan, my favorite album will always be Bossanova, but I think "Indie Cindy" is maybe their most perfect album ever, when you think of it, regarding its structure, the insane balance between noisy and cooler songs, the production, etc. :)
Im a big fan of nirvana and when kurt said that he got most of his inspiration from the pixies i had to look the band up and my god such an amazing band c: liking them all ready
dont even bother with this stuff, just first 5 albums completely different this stuff is about as original as using backwards footage in video, move on!
This is classic Pixies. When I heard this song for the first time I was like, "Cool beans, Pixies haven't lost the touch during the decades they were gone." I'm so happy about every new Pixies recording. Absolutely fantastic!
I like Frank's subtle little digs at pitchfork. "So Pitchfork, it's a blog correct? I mean they aren't a publication in print, right?" I paraphrased but it's a total dig.

been a pixies fan since 1989 , saw them last week in france and was disapointed they didn't play anything from this great album ! best gig of my life still
I saw you live for the first time in 2005 in Reading Festival in UK. I went to a LOT of concerts and gigs, I produced records, and worked in the music industry. But you guys, that gig, was the best feeling I had in my life (so far of course;). You're not just a band I like, you changed my life. Love4ever or something like that. Really. I'm so glad I saw in 2005. And I'll cherish that memory "4ever". Love. Phil.
I wish I had appreciated Pixies when I was in college and Surfer Rosa first came out. So glad I've been able to rediscover their music in the years since. SOOO way ahead of their time. Proof positive...they release something like this all these years later and it just makes sense.
Best sound I've heard in years. Have listened to it on repeat for couple of months. One of those songs that brings you back to yourself; restores the outlook (positively) on the music industry, mankind, and the world by its existence - coming across this song. Clean, fresh, original, beautiful, depth. Thank you Charles MKT IV
I don't understand this at all. Firstly, I'm 99.9% sure that there's no such thing as a commercial chord change. The 0.1% of doubt demands that you share with me some examples of commercial chord changes, so I can go write a hit single. Secondly, and once again acknowledging the existence of commercial chord changes, why did he blow his Billboard chart topper by including a swear word in the lyrics? Thirdly, when was the last time a band made up of middle-aged musicians had a hit single? The Pixies were a hugely influential band when they were cherubic 20-somethings, but in terms of shifting units, especially in the US, they weren't at all successful. Finally, while it's most accurate to call the Pixies a rock band, they, like many of their contemporaries, predecessors and successors, had a strong pop sensibility. 'Beatles-based pop'.
Very long time lurker and first TH-cam comment post. I love The Pixies, always have. This piece goes to show you that they still “got it” and they always will. Can you not hear the brilliance behind the composition of this song? It’s rock and fucking roll, man.
The lighting and colors on the video at 2:34 are very effective, the dark red hair against her pale skin and mint sweater has a stunning effect! Great cinematography for a killer song.
The Pixies are back. I love the sound of this song. The ep is excellent. I can't believe it's been almost ten years since bam thwok! Now we wait till they release their full length album!
the critics have had a go at this , but you know what , the melody when it comes round to it , is as good as any of the pixies best ones! Charles ALWAYS comes up with amazing melodies and thats ALL that really matters , if it passes the whistle test its good to go! and thats why i am fav this :)
Besides being the best Pixies song since 1991, this is also a frickin' amazing video. I love how seeing the same events forward vs backwards gives you a completely different perspective. Yes, there are more story elements revealed in the second half, but still. Amazing filmmaking.
This gets better every time you listen. The half steps are dreamy as hell and put you into a glammy spacey drift. The entire EP is quite amazing and "What Goes Boom" is ridiculously great!
couldn't agree more, and further: the direction franks songwriting was going over the past 10 years (love all of it btw) you had to wonder if he still had songs like these in him as his songwriting deviated further and further away from the pixies and early frank black style. i for one am absolutely buzzing about how good they sound and particularly how youthfull franks voice sounds for a man of 48. anyone who is crazy enough to think this is only half as good as old stuff is lucky to hear it!
I've been religiously listening to the Pixies since my teenage years. They're my favorite band ever, I know every song by heart. Their latest stuff doesn't sound bad, but it's not THE Pixies. It's not something I can explain, I feel it: when I listen to this it's ok but, it doesn't have that drive that made Pixies songs so magical. Every Pixies song used to be raw emotion; good or bad, but always weird. Remember Motorway to Roswell? Alison? Velouria? Gigantic? Break my body? Can anyone tell me exactly what they're about? No, because they're all complex works of art. Their new songs all sound like the filler of some generic alternative rock band's album. What's this song about? guy's hot for a single mother. That's about it. Didn't capture my imagination at all. I wish I could love this so bad. I wish we could have more Pixies, but I don't think we ever will but for the old records. Speaking of which, where's UK Surf...
Honestly, without fanboy gushing (because I am and have always been a fan of the Pixies old and new), this song evokes memories of some of the best work they ever did. Do I miss Kim, sure, but that takes nothing away from this. This song passes muster as excellent on its own merits. Lovering, Black and Santiago carry their weight here, it 'feels' and sounds distinctly 'Pixies'...and distinctly good Pixies at that.
This is Just what I needed....Does this song make anyone else want to pour gas on a house light a match and walk away in slow motion while the whole thing burns to the ground.....all without ever turning back to catch the last glimpse?
this still sounds like pixies.....very unusual to hear a band keep that distinct sound over decades.
i was thinking the same, usually people are unhappy with older bands new music, but i thought was still great
Hmmmm feels classic and Good!!
Right? I’m always on the prowl for other artists with the pixies’ uniqueness, yet raw vibe.

Pure pixies! Frank Black on acoustic, more 6s than 8s, guitar work left to Joey, narcisiscm verses, romantic choruses ...
Hey..you summed them up well.. agree
Spoken word verses and the dark reverby tone make such a good contrast for the chorus and the soft harmonica. Awesome song.

I'm 50 this year.. discovered 'Wave of Mutilation' by Pixes from the 'Pump up the Volume Soundtrack' when I was 17..
Pump up the volume. rewatched it recently- still holds up.
That movie introduced me to Leonard Cohen's Everybody knows.
Great soundtrack.
Always beautiful and haunting
I purchased this CD Indie Cindy, sometime around the release date. I got the case with fold-out, and a lyrics sheet. Pixies

absolutely love this! Precisely the kind of sound i was missing right now

The current songs of Pixies have the same quality of the old songs. few or no one of the present old bands do this currently.
They did keep the essence of their sound together really well didnt they.
Counting Crows also.
