This is very good, the man still has a real talent for melody, the last two tracks are pretty reminiscent of classic Pixies.I'm just happy they are making music again.
The more I listen, the more I am so very impressed with these new EPs. I hear there will be five in all! Thrilled! Also, they were amazing live and the new songs sound great. Paz on bass is PERFECT and I wasn't expecting that!
I think Andro Queen is the most haunting song I've ever heard the Pixies do. It blows mind every time i hear it. Where is my mind? Thank god they've decided to release new stuff. Long overdue! Their reputation and legend precedes them. They had a lot to live up to but they've delivered the goods here.
This EP has grown on me so much over the last couple of days. I liked it on my first listen, but like all the other Pixies tunes, the songwriting craft really grows with more listens. The elements that make the Pixies great are all present here. I dig it.
kudo's for putting new stuff out. If after 25 listens (I'm hardly there yet) it doesn't stack up to their old work for me, it will not be the end of the world. In fact that would be expected. Breaking down musical barriers is, usually, for the young. Not the middle aged. Few song writers grow more creative or better as they move into that stage of life. Bob Dylan or Leonard Cohen types that continue to amaze into their 60's are the very rare exception rather than the rule.
What this EP does is make you go hmm after the first listen, then hmmm ok after the 2nd. Just like so many songs of their back catalogue, it takes a few listen before you go OMG this is awesome. But then again, true Pixies fans already knew this. And true Pixies fans appreciate that 3/4 ORIGINAL members are still present. That is all.
The melodic elements are even more melodic--like echoing pools of cool water. The thrash is composed more sharply,t cutting shards of glass. Seems like I've been waiting forever for this new collection (I'm their age). I not at all disappointed. The Pixies are still "so sublime."
Excellent! The only weak moment is what goes boom but I bet live it will rock. Andro queen and the sweet parts in Indie Cindy are Pixies magic. Yes! Along with bag boy it's pure fun. God bless them, keep it coming.
The EP is better than I expected. Maybe not as ground-breaking as their older albums but I feel its more inspired than Trompe le Monde. And its nice having new Pixies material...
Hey, Mr. Black's voice is back, specifically on the second track. I thought it was gone forever as soon as I heard his recording of Where is my Mind with his Catholics. This revelation encourages me to purchase this record.
Even though there is a clear change (Kim's absence) in the flow of the songs, its still an amazing band. Im so glad they decided to get back together. Cant wait to see them in concert!!
NEW MUSIC OR OLD BY THE PIXIES .... LOVE IT ALL ! DEFINATELY ONE OF THE MOST INFLUENCIAL BANDS OF ALL TIME AND WITH A SOUND ALL THEIR OWN .... JUST SAW THEM TONIGHT IN SAN JOSE,CA. AND IT WAS AMAZING TO SAY THE LEAST ! LOUD, FAST AND VERY POWERFUL WITH A HUGE FAN BASE STILL TO THIS DAY. PROPS TO NEW BASSIST PAZ WHO PLAYS BETTER THAN KIM DEAL AND HAS THE PIPES TO BACK UP FRANCIS PASSIONATELY AND IN TUNE !
Great new songs. The last one in particular is a very profound piece of music. It is definitely a statement of purpose. One can always use more Pixies.
I heard this was out but hadnt stumbled on it until now. It sucks that kims gone, and they're music style has changed. That being said...still love em and cant wait to listen to the full album or perhaps part 2 of they're EP
Love it. It's very different but it's just been so long! I think it sounds like The Pixies, the drumming and lead guitar help rebuild the sound Frank Black didn't achieve (not that he wanted to) with his solo stuff.
i havent listened to the pixies in about a year and a half, just kind of fell out of my musical rotation, i randomly start listening to them tonight and i wonder if they have any new stuff.. check the wiki and it just so happens they do and it just came out. and its just great.
You know, it's funny.... ...I became a Pixies fan just before EP1 came out, and Kim Deal left the band. I can't decide whether I should consider myself lucky to have become a fan right around the new release, or if I should be saddened that I never got to see the original Pixies with Kim Deal. In a few short months Pixies have now dominated my music library, and they've quickly become my favorite band on the face of the planet. But all the same, I wish it had happened sooner. I wish I could have seen them live, as they stood in their original lineup. If I had been just a little bit faster, I may have caught a glimpse of the greatness that was the original Pixies. Not that new Pixies aren't great, but it's not quite the same.
I saw them in 1992, and they were amazing. The best band of the past 50 years, easily. They were great with Kim, but I have always felt that it was Joey and Black Francis that made the band what it is. I've always liked Kim's band the Breeders, but they have never been as good as Pixies. And though I am sad to see that Kim is no longer in the band, I don't feel that it makes them less of a great band.
One of my favorite bands too ( seen them in '88 opening for the Cure and in '04 ) Kim's absence makes it seem like a Frank Blank solo outing because she was a vital part of their sound. Especially their vocal stylings that were SO unique.
My favourite band!! Maybe lots of people says that Pixies are not Pixies without Kim Deal, but with this EP we can see that Pixies are a genius with or without Kim.
The Pixies are my favorite band of all time. I love their old stuff, like a lot of Frank's solo stuff. I agree this doesn't completely sound like either. Or even a mix of the two. It has a lot of elements (which I absolultey love - The Pixies are so uniquely indentifiable) and definitely sounds great. I love it all the same. Very sad Kim left, but I don't think they are going off in a bad direction with their music. This sounds great.
There's two types of music: the type which is interesting the first time you listen to it, and from there on you just kinda lose interest until you forget the song exists. That's pretty much the mainstream pop music today. Then there's bands and artists like Pixies, bands you need to work on, be patient about and give them time. But you never get bored with them - and that's what makes them special.
everyone saying that they're dissapointed by this album have forgotten how it all started. how many of you enjoyed debaser hearing it for the first time? I guess no one, because that song gets better the more you listen to it. It took like 15 years or smth to get some mainstream recognition for the pixies. Pixies made and still are making right desicions. The problem isn't pixies or kim deal. It's you. You're too eager to digest music as fast as possible and then forget it.
Any genuine Pixies fan should know better than to judge new material on a first or even second listen. I really didn't like Bagboy at first, but now I love it. I think that is a mark of a great band.
My first comment is that I compulsively listened to it like six times in a row. I'll need to step back from it for a bit before I have a full opinion on it. But at first blush I think its awesome. Toe in the Ocean is one of the catchiest, hookiest, songs I've heard in a long time. Has a Brian Wilson feel to it. Indie City has a spacy, estoteric, feel to it - an FB/Pixies trademark. Boom is a Pixies circa 1990 tune. I don't care whether it sounds like FB, Pixies, or GD. It's great.
They killed at the Ryman the other night. They have been in my top 3 to check on my bucket list that I didn't think I would ever check off. No Kim, but Paz killed it as well and fits them just fine. Now…to keep hoping for that infamous RATM show.
So funny to read some (not many) calling this music awful (?????) How can anyone say such a thing. Awful is Foster the People, goddamn awful is anything by Robin Thicke. There may be degrees of how much I like or love a particular song but I can honestly say that they have never put out an awful song and this EP stands as a solid one. The Pixies are like Radiohead in that even their worst songs are better than most of what is out there in the public musical landscape.
cborgioni Most definitely- these are cool songs that would stand on their own if other great bands copied them even. For example, imagine Bowie doing Andro Queen. Dig these songs.
John Cantatore I hear you. In the end, all bands should focus on the fans that love them and nurture that relationship instead of paying attention to those who do not like them
I like most of the new stuff and I am eager to hear what will come out later. The Pixies are back together (deep breath) and are recording new material (exhale).. C'mon all you Pixies fans who are expecting them to repeat what they did back then in our youths. ANY Pixies is good, y'all...Just listen to which ones ya wanna. I don't listen to all of Come On Pilgrim, or even Doolittle. That's my comment. Namaste
I've been a fan of all of Frank Black/Black Frances' work. Although the Frank Black stuff wasn't even close to what the Pixies made, I still found a few tracks on each CD that I truly loved. This is exactly that. A Frank Black album with The Pixies name slapped on it. If we're all being completely honest, I think it's obvious that this isn't what we were looking for in the new Pixies.
you CAN'T just listen to a pixies song once. at first i didn't like any of their new stuff. but it grows on you after the first few listens. you have to give them a chance. they're still awesome.
Im remember driving round listening to Doolittle in 89. Couldnt understand why I was still playing it and thought how uncomfortable and awkward it made me feel. Subliminally, little did I realize I was listening to a phenomenon that hit me in the back of the head 3 weeks later and stuck there ever since. Teenager of the Year did the same to me. I thought he had lost the plot, but ate my words 2 weeks later and accepted the guy is a genius.
I'm still up in the air about this new stuff. Bagboy is great, but I'm still undecided about this EP. Also, people saying this pisses over everything that's current clearly haven't been listening to the right things....
Imagine if Radiohead stuck to their "roots" of "Pablo Honey" and "The Bends" and never experimented with albums such as "Ok Computer" or "Kid A", they wouldnt be the band they are today. Sometimes change is good. Although I absolutely love the EP "Come on Pilgrim" (and the rest of their albums for that matter), I find it fantastic that they are making new albums and happy that they do not sound like old Pixies. Their new style suits their stage appearance much better, and I think it still sounds better than anything I hear at my local radio station. Long Live Pixies!
It's sad that some people write their new stuff off because "omg, it doesn't sound like their old music!!" Twenty years have passed. They're not the same people now that they were then, and they're going to make different music accordingly. I think their new stuff is pretty great, and I'd much rather hear music that reflects who they are now than just repeats of what we've heard before. We just have to be receptive to it.
Blue Eyed Hexe / Greens and Blues are 2 new songs peformed at the impromtu gig in LA the other night. There is footgae of these. Not sounding too great if Im honest. Sound a bit rough round the edges. Quite like the riffs on Greens and Blues though. Does have a Pixies feel. The songs just seem a bit laboured live, but maybe not rehearsed enough just yet.
For everyone complaining: Frank Black pretty much is the Pixies although he was always adamant about portraying every member in equal light. The sound you are hearing is The Pixies circa 2013. He's almost 50 years old, do you really expect him to be jumping around a stage screaming his lungs out still?
The last two tracks are great! The first two, though.....
How has nobody acknowledged this comment yet
..... are awesome?
@@RickyParker666 it’s not very important
@@leahcimolrac1477 it's not at all. Just funny.
Each song stands alone pretty beautifully. I'm digging it.

They play here in Phoenix Monday. Cannot wait! They make me and my body SO happy!
kudo's for putting new stuff out. If after 25 listens (I'm hardly there yet) it doesn't stack up to their old work for me, it will not be the end of the world. In fact that would be expected. Just got tickets to see them in Oakland in Feb. LIFE GOAL ACCOMPLISHED!
Excellent! The only weak moment is what goes boom but I bet live it will rock. Andro queen and the sweet parts in Indie Cindy are Pixies magic. Yes! Along with bag boy it's pure fun. God bless them, keep it coming.
was skeptical about this when I learned of it, but holy crap dang! really is an awesome ep, and can't wait for a full album!!
Brilliant!!!!!!!!! Give us Ep2 Ep3 and more guys
Certainly grows on you. Very good EP. Continuation of the Pixies project that Kim wanted out of.
LOVE IT SO MUCH!!! I'm one of the few people who both equally love the Pixies and the Frank Black solo albums (especially the Catholics)
Pixies + Repetead Listen = Classic Melodies will follow you this week
The EP is better than I expected. Maybe not as ground-breaking as their older albums but I feel its more inspired than Trompe le Monde. And its nice having new Pixies material...
MY FAVORITE BAND BY FAR, THIS ALBUM LEFT ME SPEECHLESS! LONG LIVE FRANK BLACK!!! I NEVER THOUGHT THE PIXIES WOULD MAKE ANOTHER ALBUM!!! :D
The Pixies didn't make another album. In the words of Black Francis (circa 1991) Death to the Pixies.
Don't understand why everyone hated this. Definitely different but DEFINITELY good.
it grows on you. just give it time. it's always the same with pixies. just takes some time and then you will listen to it all over again
This is growing on me... I appreciate the tone, and always, I find myself relating to it personally.
Glad I could help! :) I wish they were playing in Washington DC but i might be able to make it to the Bethesda show. Should be awesome
Welcome back, Pixies. We've missed you! :-)
Well it brought a smile to my face within 20 seconds and I look forward to my next chance to listen
Excellent come back !
Hey, Mr. Black's voice is back, specifically on the second track. I thought it was gone forever as soon as I heard his recording of Where is my Mind with his Catholics. This revelation encourages me to purchase this record.
i dig it, and I've been a Pixies fan from the 80's.
This isn't exactly typical Pixies but I like it. It's calmer. I'm just glad they're still making music. And nailing it, I might add.
Even though there is a clear change (Kim's absence) in the flow of the songs, its still an amazing band. Im so glad they decided to get back together. Cant wait to see them in concert!!
Wonderful!!! Cannot wait for them to go on tour!
Indie Cindy.....wow. An album of songs that good would be right up there with the rest of them.
Great! They never lost the touch I see/hear !
Bought the single! Love it. Thanks
Love the last track " What Goes Boom" ... Very classic Pixies!
Loving the artwork
So awesome that they are back!
Beautiful beautiful stuff

Nothing close to old pixies, but i must admit there is a joy in me when i hear something new from them. I vote for what goes boom.
Oh wow Mike and the mechanics got back together that's awesome.
HAH! Too funny!
What goes boom sounds like it could have fit in Trompe le monde. Great job on that one!
Great new songs. The last one in particular is a very profound piece of music. It is definitely a statement of purpose. One can always use more Pixies.
Why do you need the name "The Pixies" to recognize Frank Black's talent?
I heard this was out but hadnt stumbled on it until now. It sucks that kims gone, and they're music style has changed. That being said...still love em and cant wait to listen to the full album or perhaps part 2 of they're EP

My favorite band of all time, they never fail
This people make the most amazing music
They have always sounded like the future. Great stuff.
Cant wait to see these in November
Guys, we must admit it take some balls to come all these years and face the scrutinity of the fans. GO PIXIES!
Andro Queen and Indie Cindy are amazing. Not fussed about the other two.
he makes the coolest art. I saw a doc on him and he is a true master

I think this is one of the best Pixies projects ever.... It's always been about Charles (Frank) (Black). And still is to this day....
Something about Pixies chord changes gets me right in the feels
Indie Cindy is amazing, crazy verse and emotional chorus
After one listen, I'm not feeling it. Still excited to see them in Vienna!

I personally like foster the people and as you can see my profile picture is Ok Computer so I think that was a poor example of awful honestly!
John Cantatore

Still loving this in 2025. Amazing how some reviewers were so negative 10 years ago

I'm digging it!
more songs like what goes boom!!
I am not disapointed, this is good stuff.
I dig this
I dont mind that they went in a different direction on some tracks.. As a creative musician that's what eventually you HAVE to do...
WHAT GOES BOOM
Im remember driving round listening to Doolittle in 89. Couldnt understand why I was still playing it and thought how uncomfortable and awkward it made me feel. Subliminally, little did I realize I was listening to a phenomenon that hit me in the back of the head 3 weeks later and stuck there ever since. Teenager of the Year did the same to me. Amen. I think the new stuff is better than some of the older stuff.
