    I realized I forgot to mention one thing in the video - the analog-content aspect was actually an afterthought. I originally built this setup to digitize and preserve any rare tapes I get ahold of. It works flawlessly :3

    I recently saw the full WBRB series and it scared me so badly, and watching this video made me impressed on how you were able to mimic not only the dead silent cable tv but also the vhs effect. Nice job Mary!

    In all seriousness, thank you for the behind the scenes look at how the sausage that is the wacky world of Teleblue is made.

    Mary, you're so underrated. But that doesn't really matter to me. You make great videos with a lot of effort for your small audience and that's what I like about creators like you. Thanks for sticking around.

    I love the attention to detail in each video, especially when it comes to the UI! Like in that one Nick on-demand video, the UI looked straight outta 2005, right down to the weird truncation of the show names (this is an actual thing cable boxes would do for... some reason. Probably just a cheap way to make text fit.).

    Your work has seriously impressed me so far. As a collector of kids cable network stuff like this as well, I have to really admire your attention to detail when it comes to getting aspects of this as accurately as possible. Your series will keep me up for hours tonight, and I don't get enough sleep already as is, lmao. Keep up the awesome work!

    That's so cool! I've been watching your videos and they really amaze me. I've never seen a VCR (or not that I know) and vintage technology really fascinates me. Now that fact that VCR's are a bit rare now, it makes me a bit sad to have never seen or used one, and there aren't really any thrift stores in where I live, but these kind of videos where people show off their vintage technology makes up for it :)

    i apologize for this becoming basically a mini-essay, but a channel like this for someone like me DESERVES praise.
    I was born in 2000- no literally, August 21, 2000, I am as old as this century (22 as of writing this); I grew up in what is essentially the beginning of tapes becoming semi-obsolete an slowly transitioning to only DVDs, BLU-Ray and streaming. Same goes for TVs. We've had a analog crt tv in both living room and the playroom and bedroom me and my brother had- at least from 2003-2011 (roughly; my memory isn't that great). Even when we got a HDMI flatscreen in 2007 for the living room... well, as HDMI as you can get from 2007 standards, we kept the old CRT tv in my parents' bedroom, vhs player and all, since they don't ever really watch tv on that at night anymore.
    Why am I rambling about all of this? Because I too love early 2000s stuff- and yes, I still kinda like DVDs but mostly the really old ones with still images being the main menu of the disc and the best bonus feature of the dvd being a free PC demo or XBOX original demo game to put into their respective consoles, even if it's just a demo game and it asks you to buy or download- via XBOX Live or the internet for Windows XP
    Especially VHS tapes, as my brother and I grew up with an over-abundant love for them. Disney vhs tapes from the 90s, baby einstein (not my parents' best decision when we were babies >.> if im gonna be honest), veggietales. Any movie or episode compliation that has a 10 minute barrage of trailers for other movies and tv commercials/anything-promos made specifically for those tapes thatll never be seen on tv at all; I love ALL OF THEM ^3^
    with all of that in mind, I've grown very early on to really love and appreciate analog-media pre-2006/7, as IMO that's where people were finally moving on to DVDs and Ipods instead of VHS tapes and CRT PC monitors. I'm not ashamed to admit this, I'm one of those people that just get that RANDOMASS thought to go on youtube, and either look up videos showing the previews from a vhs tape, or go on internet archive and either look up early 2000s commercials (or one of the many PBS kids "sponsored by" segments they did back then) or full on hour long videos people recorded tv channels on back then so you can SORTA watch pbs kids or nickelodeon like it's still 2003 lol.
    So, me being someone who absolutely loves analog media, vhs-recorded tv channels and such, it's why I'm subscribing to you. Like me and everyone else who falls in the same path, you love dis stuff as much as I do- if not more cuz holy cow I am in love with how you make these videos, using real tapes and such ^u^- and you express that love through your videos. So I'm looking forward to seeing more videos from you ❤
    (btw- I really love your OC; buck-toothed characters are lowkey super cute imo, she's adorable :3)

    Fun fact: when I was 7-8 years old my school class had this vintage-looking 4:3 PC monitor that had these black lines scrolling down similar to a CRT television set. I think that using such a similar screen to power some of my analog horror videos could help encapsulate an authentic feeling of the 1980s-2000s - if only I had the bank account to acquire one for myself that I could link to my computer with succession… 😔

    as a 22 year old fella that grew up on vhs and comcast on demand. plus 2007 being a favorite memorable year of mine, ((transformers and meeting my childhood homie that i still talk to)) this series actual gets to me. i love horror and even the goofy analog horror ((idc what people say, i need more spooky faces lol)) theres something about this series though ((especially the noggin one, just throw in a lunchables commerical and froot loops and theres my childhood lmao)) that actually spooks me. like val is one of the scariest antagonists to me since its more of a realistic concept ((rouge ai goes crazy and scares people)) kinda also reminds me of my many creepypasta type dreams id have ((ben and sonic exe despite being goofy scared young me shitless, something about the horror of something im used to everyday being calming or normal going all evil and spooky on me. also why gmod args still get me since id shit myself endlessly if my ragdolls im scenebuidling with start to come alive)) idk i get a lotta spooky dreams where this stuff actually happens to me so seeing my ""nightmares, and childhood nightmares"" being real is dope asf but damn its proper goosebumps for me lol
    tldr for fellas: this series tingles the nostalgia horror shit my pants bone. fuck id hate waking up to see val popping up on my screens

    😅I'll admit, I didn't think about having a countdown when doing my vhs stuff. My setup at the time when recording VHS stuff was like: Blu-ray Player with Composite, USB Flash Drive, Panasonic or Sony VHS VCR, and then GO. I had somewhat of an issue with this because I got to wait 10 or 5 seconds to get the rainbow stipe when starting the tape to go away or that media player overlay to go away. From what I've experienced with my setup however, It does the job perfectly. I do happen to have an RF Modulator from RadioShack if I ever wanted to make things super broadcast-styled like, I'm unsure on using it SUPER often when doing VHS spoofs but I'll think about it. One thing I didn't knew you had on hand was that Analog Mixer device??? I thought it was just like some RF tinkering you messed around with! But, besides the long stuff I had to say... This is a great video!

    • @TAPE_W0RM
      @TAPE_W0RM  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thanks! Your setup sounds really lit actually, lots of ppl go the route you went with the DVD/Blu-ray player. Personally I just wanted a setup a bit more instantaneous, without the need of other hardware like burning discs or buying a specific flash drive. Doesn't make it any less efficient tho, rlly its all preference

      @TapeWorm You're so welcome! One more thing I forgot to mention. I do also have a CRT, but I got mine for free and it also came with a vhs deck. So, sometimes I'll switch between one of my VCR's or go the CRT VCR depending on what I'm going for. This also applies for sound since lofi vhs audio is what I want to try to go for.

    Damn I might just pay you to convert a music video idea I’ve had for one of my tracks to tape, I admire your setup.
    I’ve always wanted to perfect the analog look as that’s sort of my theme.
    A quick question though, do you have multiple tapes that u record onto for each video or do you just have one tape that u tape over whenever you need to convert another video?

    that capture setup looks nice, although the vcr that you use is known for failing after a long period of disuse, but if it works it works.
    also, the capture card you use is good and all but it has an issue where if theres little to no signal, it will lose sync and cut to blue in certain areas or the entire screen.

    • @TAPE_W0RM
      @TAPE_W0RM  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I actually sometimes use the signal issue w my capture card to its advantage in terms of using the analog video mixer. It actually makes a really nice clean cut when you tape it.

    this video appeared in my recommended and i really enjoyed watching! it's so interesting seeing others analog video workflows especially as there's a few things here i hadn't really looked into (notably the video mixer).
    i'm curious.. did you have any issues with the hdmi2av converter? i've had problems with those in the past being finnicky with ntsc framerates leading to a nonexistent chroma subcarrier & not filling the entire frame compared to commercially transferred video so i was wondering if those ever caused issues.
    as for the tape audio, i think that's because your vcr has hifi. i don't know if those late-model combo units can disable hifi but for my transfers i usually record in ep mode without hifi on an early 90s mono only vcr. sometimes i'll also pass the footage between two vcrs a couple of times which really gets the transfer perfectly terrible (i will note that there are much more elegant solutions for quick video degradation - notably, there are quite a few vcrs made by go.video that have two tape decks for quick copying. they're fairly cheap on ebay if you trust the seller to pack it well enough to survive shipping). :P
    i will also admit i'm not familiar with the whole analog horror thing besides some ones i vaguely remember from a few years ago (local 58 and channel 7 i think they were?) but hearing you talk about it your take on it was really cool! we've all got a unique angle we view our experiences thru and i love when that shows in the things we create.
    do you have any plans for a part 2? this was a great overview but it's really easy to get lost in a sea of dodgy info online about buying analog video equipment and it'd be good to have a more definitive resource for anyone interested in going more indepth (e.g. showing different transfer solutions for different technical levels and/or budgets, where to get av gear without paying absurd prices, advice on producing video for 480i playback, etc).
    overall i'm really glad this was recommended to me, thanks for making this video! it's so great to see that other people care about authentic vhs video, there's so much creative potential in using a real analog signal that no canned vhs filter can replicate.

  • @tcm35
    @tcm35 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Too bad your setup wasn't cheap. And another pro and con is that your inspiration for WBRB is swag and the con is ntscQT doesn't look like realistic VHS like an option with a dirty analog mixer. Could be hard to program, but it's kinda fun.
