Toyota 2000 GT, 1970. Full custom renovation of Corgi model no. 375. Die-cast model.

- The Toyota 2000 GT in this version debuted at Corgi in 1970. The manufacturer changed it compared to the iconic model from the James Bond film Agent 007. The opening rear trunk was removed, fast wheels with spring suspension were introduced and the white color was abandoned in favor of very vivid shades of blue and purple. The previous owner painted the model I bought with a very thick layer of black paint. I also had to remove all this paint from the inside of the vehicle, so I painted the interior dark gray and the Toyota model was painted light blue metallic. I also made a box for this model from the first year of production. Thank you for watching the video, I publish car repair videos on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Ironically the 2000 gt only came in a coupe model. When the car was selected for the movie “you only live twice” they had to chop the top off because Sean Connery was too tall to fit in the car. I think they made two like this for the movie. I have a model kit I want to try the same conversion to make it a movie car. Great work, thanks for sharing!

I had hoped that it might have been the purple from the underside, but the blue looks pretty good. That black was nasty, was it marker pen or nailpolish? Anyway this is another great restoration.

Quite a nice model despite the lack of working features, but personally I much prefer regular street cars over the sports cars and I would have loved for the big names like Corgi, Dinky, Solido, Politoys and Tekno to offer models like early Toyota Corollas, Crowns, Carinas, Celicas, or how about Datsun Sunny or 100A/120A, 120Y... or Mazda 616, 818, 1300/1500?
I do understand that they hesitated, though, since Japanese cars had only just started appearing on European markets in 1964, so remained relatively unfamiliar for the first few years, but James Bond's use of the Toyota 2000 GT probably helped really introduce Japanese cars to the masses, and with a little more courage, the toy makers could have tried with some of the others... alas, that was not to be and I think the reason for that was very much about the financial climate around 1970 with rising production costs, frequent strikes, dumbing down (simplifying of) toy cars in order to save on costs. There was no room for experimenting with models that the audience was unfamiliar with.

Top class resto paul like the video I restored one if these a few years back but I painted mine purple had to get a new aerial and screen from steve flowers model supplies its an excellent model made by corgi I'm surprised that you can dip plastic parts into caustic soda without it melting

Со всех видео ( смотрел штук 100) - король коробочек / вырезание/ 👼🏼👼🏼👼🏼
Все остальное … одно и тоже … высверлил … отбрашировал( выровнял, склеил… колёса … ) кое как , что там прогрунтовал … дальше трешак перед заливкой лаком … потом трешак при сборке 😢…. что такое скотч при сборке мелких деталей ( капоты , багажники , двери ) чтобы не вываливались не знаем …
Ну и вишеньки когда начинают что то-то делать над свыежеокрашеннвми машинками / пилить , резать … и т.д. / ….
Ну и разрисовка в «готовом» виде хромом и лаком 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯декалирование …
Одним словом - Король коробочек и упаковки !
